My First Quilt is Completed!!!

It's taken me month's but my first quilt is complete.  I am still learning the ropes of quilting.  I messed up my pattern along the way that I wanted, but I think it still looks pretty good.

My goal is to make a blanket or quilt for everyone this Christmas.  I can't come close to that goal, but I am working on it  :)

I started a squidoo lens called My First Quilt quite awhile back.  For one thing, I figured that would motivate me to actually get the quilt done...and I was right.  I hope you will click over and check it out.  I have photos and notes on my progress over the past several months as I worked on it.  I am including a photo here of the completed quilt.

My next one is going to be for Steve's sister...a request he made for me to make special for her and he bought me the materials for it Saturday night.

This quilt I made all with material that was given to me.  The blanket I used for the backing is one I bought years ago.  The thread used was even about all I had laying around the house.

I love it. This is on my bucket list - learning how to make a quilt. I would also love to just learn to sew (again). I got a sewing machine - but feel i need lessons to really get me started.

Congratulations! A quilt is such a large accomplishment. Don't worry about a mistake or two. No one but you will ever notice. Someone once told me "only God is perfect" so every item you make needs at least one little mistake.

Reminds me of my grandmother. I have quilts that were hers and passed down to me. I will never get rid of them. You did a great job.

quilts and sewing - in Art - have appealed to me for a long time. for a first quilt - wow. that's awesome. completing a project like this is a terrific achievement as well... and going after more - great! i suspect you look at a lot of quilts and patterns. i'm not a quilter. but i do look. i hadnt known about Hawaii quilts until i was living here. they are intriguing to me as much as quilts i've seen on the east coast (USA) and the UK. have fun. aloha.

My mom was a quilter. I have many quilts that she made for me. I think she used to purchase a special quilters thread for her quilts. I don't know the difference in threads. Your quilt is beautiful and unless someone has actually quilted before they cannot realize the time and work that goes into one. It's beautiful.

My daughter's grandmother gave us a quilt many years ago. It is downright ugly. But because her grandmother made it, it remains precious to my daughter.

That's quite an accomplishment, Marsha! Good for you! I'm sure your family members will cherish your quilts for years to come. I absolutely love quilts, but have zero patience for sewing. I do so admire those that can do this though! Bravo!!!

This is beautiful, Marsha. I know it is a lot of work. I took a quilting class and those tiny stitches take so much time. I pieced a quilt, but never quilted it. Maybe some day....!

Very cool. I've never done one myself although I've helped with both types. The ties kind and stiched. My husband's grandmother helped make over 1,000. We have four of hers.

Nice job. Two things to always remember with quilts - a quilt is not to be perfect, there is supposed to be at least one mistake. The second is to not use cheap thread because you will have more breakage with the cheap stuff.
