What You’ll Need: Old pair of pants, pinking shears (scissors with zigzag edges), needle and thread and pins.
1. Cut off the tops of the pants just above the legs. (use pinking shears with zigzag edges so the material won’t fray).
2. Turn the top half of pants (legs must be cut off) inside out and pin the bottom openings closed placing the pins an inch above the bottom of the openings.
3. Sew the edges together along the pinned line.
4. Remove pins once bottom is sewed shut.
5. Turn right way out.
6. Cut a strap from excess pant legs and pin into position on bag. Sew the strap in.

Take the jeans and cut them following the inseam on the legs until it's all the way open, cut to desired length (save the rest of the legs) and then overlap the legs where the crotch seam once was, and stitch in place. You'll be left with a triangular "slit" in the front and back. Depending on length, you can leave it open in the back, or use the remaining pant legs to "patch" the triangle piece closed. I left mine open in the back b/c it covered my rear :)
I took the pockets off another pair of blue jeans, cutting through the jeans so they'd be actual pockets, put adhesive magnet on the back, and use them on my refrigerator as a way to just hold STUFF, but kids could use them inside lockers and you could also put them on the back of your car (why not?)!
With some slight modifying this would also be a cute idea for a backpack or messenger bag!
Well done!
I have some of her old baby clothes and plan to cut them up to make a baby quilt for her first baby. She will recognize the fabrics!
I can't wait until winter sets in and I have time to start up my crafting again.
This is a neat idea.
My oldest son and I made a little skirt for a doll (one I had found and cleaned up for the boys to play with) out of an only shirt. It is the only clothes the boys have, but they don't care.
OH! I make hair scrunchies from trimmings as well, and I've made fabric bow hairclips from those scraps as well.
Thank you for sharing this with Kids and Grandkids.
Thanks for this.
