Hi all! I am a crafter (knitter to be exact) and I'll be attending my first craft show as a vendor!! I'm very excited, but also very nervous! I've searched on Gather for an article giving tips and pointers on craft shows/art fairs but had zero luck finding any! Sooooo, I would be ever so grateful if anyone could give me some advice!
Here's a list of things I plan to do/have done:
* Make a lattice folding screen to hang my scarves and purses (could really use some insight on the best way to make this!)
* Print out a simple catalog
* Hand out business cards
* Make a table stand/display for my headbands
* Make a simple dressform out of wood and maybe upholster it? (this is a big maybe)
* I have a business sign already made
Here are my questions:
*What kind of bags should I use for customers? The last show I went to (as a customer) most everyone used plastic bags from stores such as Walmart. I have thought about buying brown paper craft bags and stensiling my business name on them, but that would cost about .25 per bag. Is it worth it?
*Should I have little signs saying what kind of payments I take, that I accept custom orders, one for the sale box? Any others that would make a difference?
*What kinds of "emergenc" items are helpful?
*Should I buy a lock cash box or would just a simple photo box work since I'll be by it the whole time?
Thanks a million to all who respond! :D

You can purchase very nice plastic bags for a small price at any business supply store. Of course, you can always stamp them but I just use small paper bags that say "jewelry of distinction" that I bought from Rio Grand. I put all my knitted hats, scarves and shawls in sealed plastic bags (ziploc) that I get in large amounts from Cosco. That keeps them protected while the customer shops. I display them by hanging them on plastic hangers on a rack made for stores. They blow in the breeze and attract a lot of attention.
It's always a good idea to make a list of what to bring and take it with you so you can add as you go. Stapler, scrap or note paper, scotch tape, calculator, camera, (always take pictures of your table for future shows) order book, business cards, etc. And don't forget easy to eat snacks and drinks. I freeze SlimFast and it's usually thawed just right by lunch time. Bring a straw. I keep money in my pocket in a roll and take out the 20's when they get too bulky. I do not deal in change. All prices are dollar amounts and I tell customers the price includes the tax. That way I don't have to try to figure out change when it gets busy and I'm working alone.
Hope this is helpful. I will try to find specific writings on craft shows. You can look some of the books up on www.CraftersChoice.com
