Sometimes it seems that our loved ones went too soon, but they are happy where they are and they are not sick. And we will see them again.

Carol, let me smile with you and light a candle for Dustin. It is time to find memories to smile about, and no doubt this is what Dustin is hoping for for his birthday and watching for it. Wishes and blessings sent your way. And now, I'm going to light that candle. I have one candle holder in particular made of stained glass and multi-colored. I'm going to take that candle and put it on the buffet with a statue of Buddha, the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, I will write a note that says for Dustin and for Carol and place under the candle. I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's hard to lose one you love. I never got to spend any time with my son. He was taken before he was born. I didn't get the chance to touch him, kiss him, watch him grow...but I'll always love him.

Quite the handsome boy he was indeed. You are quite the incredibly amazing woman Carol, my heart bleeds for you and I feel certain I wouldn't honor my son as well if I had lost him in the manner you lost your Dustin. You are so very right in how you see things, he was the most precious gift, given to you for just that short 16 years, and no, we don't always or even usually get what we want. I had my son but 9 years 9 months and 6 days, yes I know the exact amount of time I was able to raise him and be just his mom, and it just wasn't enough, not what I wanted to be taken from him that soon and I just wish I could know him still, now, he is just 14 for a bit over a month now. Far too long for him to be without a mom, he didn't deserve that, but I am indeed grateful he is still home and well and that he likely knows I am well and here also. Many blessings and hugs sent out to you Carol, your an incredible loving person and most precious mom......

Thanks Jenn...yesterday was a surreal day, with all the snow, he would have loved playing in it.

Ruth, I will never hold Dustin responsible for taking his life and will always honor his life. He was only 16, how can I blame him? I loved him...and still do, no matter the circumstances of his death. He was my only child, my life, my world. I am trying to remember his life, not the way he died.

I share your pain and it troubles me that both our boys were born on the same day. I am not sure what I believe in, but if there is a place for them, maybe, through this common link, they will get to know one another.

No one is truly lost if somebody remembers and honors them.

here I am, a day late, but sending you the only hugs a parent in the same position can send.

Oh my yes Carol. I think that I feel this closeness to you ... due perhaps to my spirit brother. I know that his heart mourns every minute for the loss of his son, the brightest star in the spectrum. I was never able to penetrate that mourning. Dustin looks upon you with such depth of loving, an endless loving eternal with a heart so large, his eyes shine like the stars. I am so glad that you have celebrated his day.

David, It's OK that you are late, it does not matter, I need these words of support every day, as you know.

I too believe there is something out there and I believe our boys must be together somewhere. I can only hope and hold onto the dream of reuniting one day. It will be so awesome. And you are so right, nobody is lost if we remember them. And we will never ever forget our boys.

Lady Raven, My dear friend. So good to see you and your words always mean so much. Through tears, thank you for your continued support and always the perfect words. I try to celebrate Dustin every day. He was my only child, my life. I am also realizing as I go through my journey of grief, that he wants me happy. So for that reason, I have made that my new goal...to find peace and happiness. And when I do, I know he will be right here beside me through it all.

Sorry for your loss as well my dear friend.

My Melissa died when she was 21. She would have been 30 last August. Not a day goes by I do not think of her or talk to her. Birthdays and Anniversarys are so hard.

I do know exactly what you are saying Carol, and wouldn't expect anything less. I fear I conveyed myself very, very poorly. I only meant that though my son was taken from me, he wasn't taken from life, and I don't think I'd be as strong as you if that had been my case as well. I would never think the manner would change anything for any mother...
