Daily Whine & Shine - June 9, 2008
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our constant struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
So here we are. What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about something? Or so angry that you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Daily Whine & Shine, it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away. Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Happy Donald Duck Day! That's right, today is Donald Duck Day. Can you do that funny quacking talk that he does? If so, this is definitely the day to show off!
Tomorrow is National Yo-Yo Day and Iced Tea Day.
June 11 is National Hug Holiday
June 12 is Machine Day and Red Rose Day
June 13 is National Juggling Day and Kitchen Klutzes Of America Day and Blame Someone Else Day. It's also Sewing Machine Day
June 14 is Pop Goes The Weasel Day and Flag Day. (And it was my Dad's birthday. I should put a flag out so that he can look down from Heaven and know that I'm thinking about him.)
June 15 is Smile Power Day
June 16 is National Hollerin' Contest Day and Fresh Veggies Day
Food for thought:
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H. L. Mencken

Hope your cough is better, Marilyn.
My cousin's father died of heart problems because of poor hospital care when he was in his early 50s. His mother died of cancer when she was that young too.
Like I said, he's pretty much alone. He has lived with most of his friends at some time, between jobs. They grew weary of helping him, I guess.
Now cousin has a heart problem himself. He probably had a mild heart attack last Thursday night, but didn't go to seek help until Friday. He has no medical insurance, so he's terribly stressed about the more extensive tests they want to put him through...and what might happen to him...and the fact that he has no insurance or money.
He prayed the only prayer he knows - the prayer most of us learned as a child..."Now I lay me down to sleep..."
That doesn't mean he really believes in God, but he is hurting and scared. Pray for him, won't you?
Hope your day is better. I am still very shaky today and must continue to try to rest
AND tomorrow is Iced Tea Day??? I LOVE Sweet Iced Tea!!! Yippeee Skippeee Quite-contrippee!!! Tomorrow I will make some delicious sweet iced tea! mmmmmmmmmm
Now, about your cough. Recently, pediatricians and parent groups have been recommending this for children, but when I had this virus for several weeks this winter, I tried this and it WORKS. Rub some Vicks Vaporub on the bottom of your feet. The generic brand works too. Then put some socks on and keep your feet warm with slippers or when you are in bed. You will be amazed that it really helps to stop the cough. At least it helped me so I could give my chest a rest. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon. It took me a couple of months to really feel like myself again, so I know it drags on.
It's Time For A Rob-athon...Please Give!
Anyway, you know I will be praying for him and trusting that God will finish the work he started in his life.
And Elise, you and me could slap hands about Iced Tea Day. It's just my favorite beverage in the whole wide world!
Now, I'm off to go check out the Rob-a-thon/
Shine - I woke with little swelling and stiffness of joints.
Whine - Arava is making my hair fall out (sniff)
Shine - I'll cut my hair donating to Locks Of Love and give a smile to one who needs it. I grew my hair long more than once in this life and will do it again.
(((HUGS))) to all. May Smiles Light your Way....
But he's 24 and a blessing now. Hubby's men's small group (church) was going to come and help him clean out the garage so he can set up a shop to work on some of his player pianos (and those of others - for extra income). But the weather kept getting in the way...and the water was all over our driveway. My son spent 2 days doing all by himself and finished up last night. Now hubby has no excuse to not be working there. :-)
Meanwhile I have a "shine" to share. Next week I'm scheduled for a $60 consumer panel (30 minutes) and the following week I might get in a $75 one. Yippee skippy!
Shine - Little by little, we're getting our small apartment rearranged. This is a good thing as it'll make it much easier to get to things -not much storage here and this has needed to be done for awhile now.
Prayers for you and your cousin. Coughing's not good for you and *something's* got to be causing it.
Take care,
M-
