I started out as a child reading biographies about 9 years old. I felt then that reading anything but true life was a waste. As I grew in education, I studied literature to gain my Masters in English, but I loved learning about the author's life more than the work of the author, save Shakespeare, of course.
I read as a child, the Auto-biogaphy and biographies of George Washington Carver, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and many more. I then went on to study the lives of authors.
For instance, I found the story of William Wadsworth Longfellow so interesting, in that he had a beard. The reason for his beard is that he tried to save his wife from a fire, and his face and hands were badly burned. He grew the beard to cover those burns.
I could go on, but wanted to know if you have any biographies that interest you. I have so many more, and my students always were more interested in authors lives then their works. What a joy a biography is to me.

Have you read the book- German boy
It's a good book-
One of my recent examples of the dark side: "The Art of the Heist" by Myles Conner (being made into a movie as I understand).
Now that I think of it - the Tarbell book is more history than biography but it tells a lot about Tarbell's life.
