We've all met some amazing people in our lives. But sometimes we never get to meet them in person, but share in their life experiences through books. Join the Coffee-Break Moments chat tonight at 9PM ET to discuss your favorite biographies and memoirs.
- Who was the book about?
- How did this person inspire you, or affect your way of thinking?
- How is the experience of reading a biography or memoir different for you than reading a fiction novel?
Gather will draw three participants from 9-10PM ET tonight to receive a free COFFEE-MATE coupon. Of these three, one will be selected to receive 300 Gather Points! If you can't make the chat time, leave your comments in the field below.
Tip: You'll need to continually REFRESH your browser to see new comments appear during the live chat.

And I prefer non fiction rather than "hollywooz-ized" type stories. I want to know the truth about historical figures rather than a facade that these people may have put on in their lifetimes.
On a positive, it was very cool for me to be able to get inside of the head of someone I feel is a brilliant musician.
I really enjoy memoirs - there's a human connection there. It's interesting to know the hardships people go through. It makes me feel that I can change my life and become a better person. I don't really feel that from fiction. Still, I love fiction and it's a nice escape.
I have read several books about them and their life. Women had a hard time as an actress at the time with very few in important roles. We are lucky that several women didn't back down.
It is the story of a Dad that takes his 2 children on 1 year of traveling the world. It affects me, because traveling is dear to my heart & I would love to be able to take my family with me for a life of traveling.
Daniel was bold in doing this! He did have to have "school" time, and even turning an experience into a learning one (which I'm sure is easy to do!)
If you ever have a chance to read this book - I recommend it.
by: Edwin John Wintle
This is a moving book about a troubled teen who's Mom doesn't know how to handle her anymore. Bad friends, bad choices, Mom divorced & stressed.
Edwin decide's to let Tiffany come & live with him, in New York City & see if he can help show her how to make better choices, look ahead in life. Edwin is gay, and had to tone down his life a lot for this, but they made 18 months together & Tiffany and even Edwin are better for the experience. I hope that he might write a follow-up book, as I would love to know how it all ended.
This book resonated with me because I have a teenage daughter - who so far makes great choices...but it never hurts to be prepared. Although my daughter doesn't have a gay uncle to help her out!
Michelle: A Biography by Liza Mundy
I may read that next. It may give me some insight to our new first lady
I wouldn't mind having a childhood like Daniel Glick's children but since I enjoy reading again, it sounds like one to add to my list.
I heard George Hamilton interviewed recently and he's just published his memoirs which sound great. Although I'm not a gossipy type person, he talked about the fond memories he with certain "stars" not dishing dirt on them per se. So, that's another one for my list.
I know this is sort of off the topic but on it at the same time..last week I was at Donner Summit. There is a monument erected in the memory of the Donner party that didn't survive that horrible winter in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
I remember reading someone's memoirs of that when I was a kid when I lived in NY and was amazed of the fortitude and strength of the people who had to make a tough decision but they knew they didn't want to die on the mountain. But, seeing a piece of history live-WOW!!
You brought to mind probably one of the most compelling books I've EVER read was the Diary of Anne Frank. Another young wise woman that faced the horror of Nazi Germany.
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom is another fascinating read.
By: Ayun Halliday
It is a travelogue book about her different travels & the wrong, but oh so funny decisions she makes. I recommend this one for laughs for sure!
I love to travel, so I tend to like to read about other people's travels. I also love a memoir that is funny, like Augusten Burroughs-he cracks me up!
I enjoyed Monkey Dancing.
Right now I am reading "Staying out of Jail & other noble goals while traveling" or something very similar titled~
Oh, well.
I hope everyone had fun.
That was some timing! I loved "Marley and Me".

Grogan's The Longest Trip Home is fun to read because we both grew up outside Detroit in a Catholic family and went to parochial schools. We're also the same age. His parents sound more devout than mine.
