My friends Barb and Steve own a Bar and Grill here in San Antonio called Casbeers http://www.casbeers.com/. They bring in local and touring acts to perform live music in the evenings and showcase a wide range of musical styles. I've heard some great music there and discovered about 75% of my CD collection there over the past several years. Last night (tonight actually as I haven't gone to bed yet) I was introduced to one of the best new blues bands I've heard in years.
The band, Porter Davis is a trio of players including Daniel Barrett, guitar and vocals, Mike Meadows, percussion and vocals, and Simon Wallace, harmonica and vocals. These three young men have a unique style that is very clean and spare. To me they are reminiscent of another blues trio out of Sydney Australia that I heard 5 or 6 years ago in Memphis, TN at the IBC or International Blue Challenge "http://blues.org" They combine sets of both original songs and their own versions of blues standards and not so standard covers. They have one CD available "Live at Eddie's Attic"

My friends' place is in an older neighborhood and is directly accross the street from the original Blanco Cafe, another traditional family owned Mexican food retaurant. The place they own has been around since the fifties but they bought it in 2000 and spruced it up a little and added live music to the mix. I'll try an post pictures of the interior later... if they transfer well to this medium.
