I'm upset with Gather!

I'm so aggravated with Gather!!!  I just wrote a long article using every writing skill that I possess and it was quite lengthy.  When I went to submit it the error page came up and when I went back the article and everything was gone!!!  So I'm going to try to post this and see if it will go through.  It probably will!  When is Gather gonna get these glitches taken care of?  Half the time I can't post a photo without getting that error page!!  It's exasperating!  Anyone else having these troubles?

ALWAYS write your articles on Word, Notepad or some other document and paste it to the submission page, so you don't lose it. It also enables you to keep a copy for your own records.

No problems posting but it is running really slow for me today. It is taking a really long time for photos and posts to load for viewing.

Happened to me the other day. I try to remember to copy it before hit the submit, if it is something I have worked really hard on. That way can paste it in to a word document and try again later. It is very frustrating to lose something like that and taking 5 minutes to post it to all the groups.

Wow. Why not try and type out your logs posting in Word then simply copy or cut and paste it into the gather window in case it ever happens again. 10 Tim

I always copy, just in case this happens, because I'm on dial up and tend to get kicked off. Its habit by now :)

I usually forget to start off in Word, so I do it Rae's way.
Command A....Command C before I hit submit. But I've been busy...have not posted for a long, long time.

That's happened to me many times. It seems like some kind of "rule," that if you forget to copy, it goes POOF... I've been so mad before I had to walk away from here for days, LOL.
It is a pain, and maybe why I don't post all that often.

When that happens to me I hit reverse. Sometimes the article is still there. Pics are always gone and I got to start over. Try and remember to copy the article before posting and then all you got to do is paste it if you lose it.

I sympathize, my dear... I've had it happen too. Now I write my more important articles in Word first. Saves a lot of headache in the end... but I still lament my lost articles.

im sorry to hear that...copy your post before you submit so therefore if the glitches don't get fixed soon you still have a copy of it and it wasnt a waste of time

Every once in a while I have this problem. Since I do mostly photo essays it is really a pain to start all over.

I got that yesterday on both IE and Firefox. Luckily, I was able to use the "back" button and the writing was still there, so I save it to my clipboard. I then closed down the browser and reopened it. Then, I pasted the post back in the writing area.

That's got to be frustrating! I haven't had it happen to me yet. The suggestions to type articles in Word, etc seem pretty smart!

Unfortunately I think everyone has to go through this ordeal of losing an article. Writing in Word first will save you this aggravation.

This is happening more and more frequently to me--at least 75% of the time. I also cannot successfully "Save as Draft"--always get an error page after that. Now, I always copy and paste into a Word document before hitting 'Submit' when working on a post...and if I get the error page, I go first to My Home and then re-open the Share Post page before pasting the article into a new post and submitting that. If by some chance a draft was saved, it won't submit.

Have you tracked down Kevin the Site Wizard to let him know? I haven't yet but will later today (about to go out).

I find more success in posting without posting to groups. Then I go back and post to groups.

I haven't had that happen here yet, but it used to happen a lot on poetry forums. If I type something in a web-browser now that is over a few sentences, I always copy it onto my clipboard before I hit send.

I have soime formatting errors if I try to paste from Word so I always save the plain text in "Notepad" first and then try to "Save Draft" a couple of times during the process. I find if I save just the text part as a draft, go back, add photos and then go back to the text editor, put in the photos and THEN "Submit" it, it works!

Are you on dial-up (me, too... bummer!) There is a "time-out" feature on the editor that only allows for so many minutes to get the article saved before it times you out. That's why writing the text in something like Word or Notepad FIRST and then just copying and pasting works better than trying to compose ON the editor page -- It takes less time...

That sucks!!! Whenever I try to add a new albums then add photos to it, my whole computer freezes.
I can't post if I start creating the post in Firefox, but it takes forever on my computer to select groups in Explorer, so I have to start the post in Explorer (which seems to anchor it in Gather's reality), select a group, then save as a draft. I then open in Firefox and select the rest of the groups I want, add my tags, and post. It's a pain, but it is working for me.

LMAO!!! I've had that happen, too. I feel your pain. I'm not laughing at you, but rather laughing because that's happened to me, too and feel your frustration. Glad it's not me, this time. It's also happened when I've made a long comment on someone's article, too. I've learned to 'copy' before submitting a comment or an article. If there's a glitch, then I go back and just paste what I just copied..That or paste it into Microsoft Word then save it for another time if it's an article.

I try to remember to at least highlight everything and hit Control C before hitting submit- the error page shows up quite often. I also save a draft before starting to post to groups. I have lst work before, and it is irritating

Yes, I agree with Donna: Whether posting to Gather or elsewhere, best to compose and save offline anything that you'd be upset to lose in a situation such as this. I appreciate your frustration, but a loss of your work such as this can happen for any one of a number of reasons, and it's best to play it safe.

I have dealt with similar issues and found Gather support to be quite helpful.

OMG! YES YES YES!!!!!!!! I posted a long photo essay tonight, pushed the submit button, and BOOM: ERROR MESSAGE. I went back and half of it was gone. I was pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very frustrated with Gather for a couple reasons, but this just topped it off!

I hate it when I format something and then it disappears. I know I should put it in a document first so it saves but somehow, I keep forgetting to do that.

I empathize with you it has happened to me too.
This certainly explains why Gather support has been so busy lately. It seems everyone is having problems.
My method seems to be working for me, though it's a confounded pain. I'm transferring my articles from my old account (because Gather can't fix my password issue) and have been successful transferring 11 of them and posting one new one. I guess Gather is just not completely compatable with Firefox.
