Long awaited and much anticipated, the hunting season has arrived in Colorado. My seasonal friends have been calling or dropping by for a while now, just sort of of touching base. Most will bare gifts and offers of help or dinner invitations.
Bow season has been on for a couple weeks. They get the first try at the elk. Due to their limited range they require stealth to have a chance at bagging one. The elk are usually less skiddish since guns haven't gone off yet.
Muzzle loading season starts today. It brings out a few more hunters as well as a sea of blaze orange. The first two pickups came through between 5:30 and 6:00 this morning.
For the next two months various seasons will come and go as will my “hunting buds”. Hopefully some will harvest animals. Surely all will have stories to tell.
Fall in Colorado.

When I was finally old enough to do it on my own I could hardly get enough of it. It began with the deer hunts and eventually was narrowed down to just elk hunting.
I could go on and on with fabulous stories about it all ... but then I had a spiritual awakening after which I could no longer participate in the killing of the animals ... but I still have the fond memories, and envy in a way those that can still participate.
No matter how you slice it, the fall is my favorite time of year by far ... it great part because of the being out in it during hunting. It sure brings back those wonderful memories.
And for what it is worth, probably not much, I seldom killed an animal because I was very particular about just what I would accept being as how my wife preffered beef (and so did I). I just liked to be out in nature that way, usually as high up in the mountains as I could get ... not to mention all of the challenges due to the harsh weather (deep snow) during elk season.
