This is amazing! A two-story home with a four-story underground fortress is for sale in Blaine, WA. The owners are calling it the 8th wonder of the world. The fortress goes down 45 feet below the house and is over 1,600 square feet, not including many passages and secret rooms. The walls consist of three feet of concrete.
The owners say it was all hand dug and took over 20 years to create. The fortress is completely finished and stays at a constant 60 degrees year round. It would make an amazing bomb shelter, if nothing else. Or perhaps a place to put those teenagers with a garage band!

I was going to guess that it was built in the 50's or 60's when we were all doing "drop drills" in school, and waiting for the mushroom clouds to form. Scary days, bomb shelters were being built in backyards.
But it seems it was built in the 70's and 80's. I wonder what inspired them to do that then? Still pretty neat.
Thanks Martha.
