It's that time of the year...summer work for our business is over, fall obligations are almost done, and snow removal have not started yet. This is always the perfect time for my husband to go on vacation. This year, he decided that instead of a cruise, we'd go to Mexico and stay in one place... so, we're off to Cancun for a week of relaxing and sight-seeing. He has booked us at the Omni Resort.
If you've been to Cancun before, what are your recommendations for things to do, places to see, restaurants to try, etc.?

I've not been there but my daughter had fun with the dolphins.
Ah, that is a good one, Jan... I think we are already looking at that activity to be included in our itinerary!
yeah, i know, always thinking with my stomach...
have fun, sweety.
Mona, if possible, we'd never eat at the hotel :-) My husband is more adventurous than I am so we'll probably get to try a lot of the local hangouts.
In the Philippines, my cousins had to hold him back from sampling everything offered by the street food vendors... they were afraid he would get sick, unused as he was to everything. They would just call home and tell the cook what to fix so he can try them in the safety of a controlled kitchen environment.
I'll just take notes for you so you and J will know where to go when you get there yourselves :-)
I had no idea the hotels were that close to the water. It is beautiful. Have fun.
Lynn, I've seen snorkeling offered by tour groups... I am hoping to get recommendations on where the best places are and which companies/ people to use when we get there.
The way I understand it, the better hotels are on a long seaside area the locals call Hotel Row. As I said, we will be staying at the Omni for 5 days and also booked an extra 2 days at the Hyatt so we could do more things... both are on Hotel Row.
Vicky, I bet it would be fun to have you along!
Thanks Debbie. You know me, camera attached to my hands wherever I go anymore... there will be some pictures, of course!
Whatever you do, have a great time. Can't wait to see the pictures.
35 years? Wow... I should leave the Hubby behind and take you and Vicky and anybody else? along instead :-)
Yes, ruins! I have penciled in a couple... El Rey is the closest so we should easily get there and perhaps Chichen Itza or Tulum next, depending on circumstances.
I guess I better not forget my cameras :-)
I'm afraid to put my face in a glass cage and go underwater... Ick! Yeah I'm more of a chicken than a duck. :-) But I am going to be spending time on the beach oogling the cabana boys in between doing nothing. I'm already permanently tan so, I won't worry too much about getting more tan.
I hope I get pictures as good as those you get when you go on vacation, Sue. You always bring back such good shots of places AND food!
And what would Bob say if you abandon her in Oz while you go sit on the beach with me, Magi?
I think you have a great understanding of our Bob, Magi... She is a photographer bit by the Travel Bug!
Thanks, Verie... I intend to have loads of fun :-)
Did you want to hop into my luggage too, Madame D.? :-)
Actually, we will be flying through O'Hare. It will only take less than 4 hours to Cancun from there.
R.B. I just googled Xcaret. It sounds like one can do a lot of things and see a lot, all in one place. Thanks!
Guess you missed my Cancun post at: CANCUN
I also did one for Cozumel, and down from Cancun at the Riveria Maya.
Thanks for the tips! I will go check your page now...
:-)
Beach and a chair is usually my simpler requirements (I don't drink beer... margaritas and I are better acquainted) but, you are sooo right! My husband heard me complaining about the hopping around and one-day only stops we made at every place when we were on the cruise ships, so this is his way of responding to it... we only stay in one place this time around.
Yup, my idea of a vacation! But my hubby will want to wander around a lot. I don't mind too much, with camera in hand it can be fun. I guess we will explore a few places besides the beach and a chair.
I insists that the ruins be on top of our list... can't go to Mexico without visiting some! I know I really enjoyed the ruins we visited in Guatemala... I want to visit more!
