Most people traveling overnight on the train sleep. Not Gideon! So, what did Gideon and I do to keep busy? M&M sculptures, of course!
Armed with a big bag of holiday mix M&M's we got to work. Here's what we came up with:

M&M Christmas Tree.

Gideon's M&M face.
An M&M Garden.

Gideon's 2nd M&M face.
Gideon's abstract sculpture.
Another Christmas Tree.

One With ornaments.
Another abstract from Gideon.
M&M gifts with bows.
M&M Mickey mouse heads.
An ornament.
A M&M wreath.
Gideon made this and calls it a 7. I think it looks like a candy cane as well.
A M&M heart.
I would have done more, but the train started moving and so did our sculptures, lol! hope you enjoyed our little Amtrak late night fun! all photos are attached in their full sizes if you want a closer look. :)

Good thing I wasn't on that train. I lose control around chocolate and would have eaten your art supplies!
What a fun idea for passing the time together. I enjoy train travel because I can see the towns, rather than the monotony of tail lights on the freeways. It's a good time to catch up on some reading, too.
Also , I was looking for the other AutoTrain coming in the opposite direction..to see exactly what time we passed.
We usually fly.. that's okay to see the clouds and stuff, but after a while it's like "Hey! ANOTHER cloud!" LOL. Seeing the sun set in the plane is nice, except they won't let you take photos at that level, so phooey on them.
The train is most certainly more scenic.
We are hoping to make this same trip in the Spring who knows what we might come up with then. I think I just found a new travel tradition!
I saw a lot of trains in the other direction next to us they have a way of making one so dizzy that it induces sleep. Haha.
Shannon, Indeed it can be done any time of year, not just when bored on the train. Boredom fuels some of the best ideas, does it not?
Tiffany, we were traveling to NY to see my family. It's an 18 hour trip by train, so we are on there all hours of the night!
Very cool idea, Jennifer.
Bobbi thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Charles, it's actually fun seeing what you can convert to M&M circles, lol.
Thanks Victoria. Those are my favorites too.
I'm seriously considering going to the candy store. They have all sorts of unique m&m colors for sale by bulk. :)
