May brings us another round of fantastic festivals, funky fairs and fabulous food. Okay, enough of the alliteration, next months offerings around the world are as follows:
May 3 - 6, 2007: Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival - Fernandina Beach, Florida, USA
Besides the obvious - SHRIMP GALORE - this festival, held at what is said to be the birthplace of modern commercial shrimping, includes a pirate parade, fine arts show, fun zone, and of course lots of food and entertainment!
May 5 - 6, 2007: Stagecoach, Indio, California, USA
Stagecoach is California's Country Music Festival. The two day country music event will feature around 50 country music acts and is headlined by George Strait on the 5th and Kenny Chesney on the 6th.
May 5 - 27, 2007: 41st Brighton Festival, Brighton, England
The Brighton Festival is a huge mixed arts festival that encompasses music, dance, books, shows for children and adults, tours, etc. England's pleasure capital really shows you a good time during this month long event! You'll also find the Fringe, which adds even more entertainment to the festival.
May 10 - 26, 2007: Reykjavik Arts Festival, Reykjavik, Iceland
The festival was designed to promote all types of Icelandic art, the bi-annual festival features concerts, theater, dance, exhibitions, and art.
May 16 - 27, 2007: Cannes Film Festival, Cannes, France
Martin Scorsese will be one of the directors on hand to announce the festival this year where filmmakers will vie for the coveted Cannes awards. The program for what is considered to be one of the finest film festivals in the world will be announced in mid-April although rumors already abound about what films may be screened.
May 18 - 19, 2007: Frankenmuth 12th Annual World Expo of Beer in Frankenmuth, Michigan, USA
This beer extravaganza will feature at least 150 different beers for tasting as well as cooking with beer classes, music and food!
May 18 - 20, 2007: Seattle Cheese Festival, Seattle, Washington, USA
In its 3rd year, the Seattle Cheese festival takes place at Pike's Place Market. Visitors have the chance to taste cheese and wine and watch cooking demonstrations. They've even thrown in a scavenger hunt so the kids can have some fun, too!
May 19 - 20, 2007: 48th Annual Artichoke Festival - Castroville, California, USA
The Artichoke Festival is a huge event that includes many activities surrounding food and the artichoke of course. You'll find an Agro Art competition and cooking demonstrations, but you'll also enjoy a parade, tours, and live music.
May 19 - 21, 2007: Mikuni Festival, Sakai City, Fukui, Japan
This large annual festival is centered around the Mikuni Shrine. A parade of floats full of warrior dolls wind through the streets and street vendors line the streets.
May 20 - 29, 2007: The Bordeaux International Fair, Bordeaux, France
This is a fair on a grand scale with a festive atmosphere. It allows vendors to show off their wares, but the exhibition is enjoyed by over 300,000 visitors. It's broken up into four distinct areas: The International area, The Emotions and Spare Time area, the Life and House area, and the Agricultural area.
May 24 - 28, 2007: 7th Annual Memorial Day Tango Festival, Denver, Colorado, USA
This festival is basically a non-stop party for Tango dancers. Beware, though, most of the dancers who attend have some skills. While workshops are a part of the festival, there are no beginner workshops.
