My husband and I were SO lucky to come across this restaurant when we were in Asheville, NC for my cousin's wedding. We were driving around the area looking for a place to eat near our hotel, which was literally across the street from the Asheville airport, and we found Tijuana Junction. Yes, there were plenty of chain restaurant choices around, but we did not want [insert chain restaurant here]. We wanted something we did not have before.
When you come inside and look up, you will notice that they have a train running the length of the restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic, but unique, inviting and casual. They must be doing something right, since they have been in business for 15 years. I think there are a few reasons for that, the prices, the service and the food.
When I was there, I chose to 'build your own' nachos, and the service size was HUGE, yet it only cost $6.99. My husband got fajitas, which tasted equally good, and we had so many leftovers that a third and possibly fourth person could have eaten.
The service was fantastic. The waitress was extremely attentive and even offered to put our drinks in a cup that we could take with us. I do not think I had to ask her to fill the water cup once, and I love that.
Also, they have various specials running on different days. When we were there, they were running a margarita special that was very inexpensive (and yes, there is a full bar). Oh, and if you go there between 11 and 4 (during the week I believe), you can get an express lunch for around $5. Last but not least, should you decide to bring your kids, there is a game room. We did not use this, but it is a nice touch. They even have those silly little prizes that you can buy with tickets.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and thought I would let everyone know, just in case you are in the area.
