Some people talk, others do. My friend, Roop is one of the doers. Appalled by declining sex ratio in India, and investigating into the reasons, she found a seemingly overlooked form of ugly oppression that is rearing its head. Female Foeticide. Which is taking on epidemic proportions. She has started a blog on this phenomenon.

Unfortunately, most societies prefer males to females. The only way to prevent this is for every woman's voice to be heard in protest.
Look what happened in China. They now dont have enough females for the males to marry.

The way women and grrls are demonized and continously put-down by their own culture and religions just makes me want to puke! If they're not killing new-born girls, then they're forcing them to committ suicide when their husbands die, and then they're stoning them for revealing the skin on their ankle, and then they're cutting their clitoris' so they can never enjoy sex or even pee without agony... inhuman acts by men who live giverned by their fears.

Great article, and wonderful comments -especially the last one by DD. I too keep wondering why for so long (it's mindboggling) women have kept themselves in the shadows in almost all cultures? Even amongst the animals, if a cow is provoked by a fearsome lion, soon he discovers her horns are not ornamental but can kill. Women have for centuries encouarged the cowards among men to perpetrate and perpetuate violence because they have their imagined fears.
This debate needs to rage on.
I am appalled by the lack of comments here, frankly.
It's question of survival.
Is anyone listening/reading this?

Just checking back here now and am really surprised to see only 1 comment after my last one (and an excellent one Max!). With an issue like this, that affects so many women around the world I am speechless at the lack of regard shown by the gatherites. I guess you have to be featured on the gather front page to get readers.

DD.. men are governed by their sacred penises...testosterone drives the world and women are never allowed to forget it. It lies at the base of every thought and tenet they hold (the very words "testament" and "testimony" refer to their precious balls and the oaths they took upon them). Men are terrified of losing themselves in a woman, and in this you are correct in that they are governed by their fears, as well.
