On September 15, Brian De Palma's film adaptation of "The Black Dahlia" will open in theaters nationwide. Based on James Ellroy's novel of the same title, the film explores one of the most notorious unsolved murders in California history, that of a young actress named Elizabeth Short. The first book in Ellroy's "LA Quartet," The Black Dahlia was published in 1987 and was followed by The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential, and White Jazz. The "LA Quartet" are set in 1940's and 1950's Hollywood, which is portrayed as a hotbed of corruption and depravity.
To celebrate the opening of the film, James Ellroy will be signing copies of The Black Dahlia in locations around Los Angeles during the month of September. If you are in the area, take your copy of The Black Dahlia and have it signed by the author himself! Post pictures and share your experience here on Gather in The Black Dahlia group!
