I went to the doctor today. I'm 36 weeks, and already dilated to two centimeters and 50% effaced. Oh, and I'm having contractions. A lot of contractions. Last night we went to the hospital because they were three minutes apart, but since things didn't progress while I was there, we were sent home again.
Today the doctor told me when I get to three or four, they would send me in and start me on pitocin. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'd like the baby to come on his own time so he's healthy, yet I'm really tired of having all these contractions. On top of that, Miriam (my second child) arrived very quickly. With her, I progressed from 5 to 10 in about 15 minutes and was ready to push. And we have to have someone to come watch the kids while we go to the hospital, and it takes a half an hour for them to get here. So there's a risk that if I wait too long, I'll end up having a baby at home.
What would you do? I'm really going back and forth on this. But maybe he'll just arrive on his own before next weeks doctor's appointment, and take the decision out of my hands.

With my son, he was a large baby also. So my doctor scheduled him C-section to after all the complications with labor with the first one.
I had contractions for several days with both of my sons, and I was a few cms open as well. In both cases they had to break the water, and it took an hour after that before I gave birth.
But, if there's some problem and you can't hold him/her in anymore....doctors know best and I'd say just let them do their thing. I'm sure your baby will be fine!
Good luck to you and your baby!
