I just come back from my OB appointment. The doctor told me I was already full term, so she could do something to induce labor (no drug involved). I discussed with my mom and my husband, and decided to go ahead with it. Right now, my husband is on his leave period until January 7. So the sooner the baby comes, the better.
The procedure was fairly painful, I would say (But then, I am sure it is no comparison to the actual labor). The doctor said there was no guarantee. It's a 50-50 chance whether it would induce labor (in the next 24 hours) or not.
I have been feeling very anxious since then. Every time when the baby moves, I wonder whether it was just a movement or the contraction. And at this point, I am really hoping the doctor's magic procedure will work.

Alas, those darn braxton hicks contractions! Anyway, they told me if I wanted, they would put down that the medical reason they kept me over night would be for observations, so I could see my doctor first thing in the morning when he made his rounds.
Because I was going to be induced the next day, my doctor gave me the option of returning home, or getting induced a full day ahead, and I said sure.
At 8:00am on the dot, he broke my water. No medicines, no painful procedure, etc. He said if I didn't go into labor by 9am, they would give me petocin to kick me into labor.
Fortunatly for me, I had my first contraction 2 minutes after 8am. And they came with lightening speed. By 10am, I was in screaming pain, and the nurses thought it was my first baby because of the screaming. Unfortunatly for me, they didn't get either a doctor (mine was at his office by then) or an anesthesiologist (I think I just butchered how that is spelled) in the room quick enough.
Gillian was born at 10:57am with no doctors, no prepared room, and the she litterally landed on the bed. I knew she was coming (you feel a different pressure when it is time to push), and I remember crossing my legs, holding tight, and looking at the nurse and saying, "I have to push, this baby isn't waiting!"
She took my hand and said, "Honey, push then." After getting permission, I didn't wait, and neither did she. 3 pushes later, her head was free and being cleaned out, 1 push later, she was laying on the bed between my legs. Still no doctor, with about 5 nurses rushing around the room trying to get the bassinet and heat lamps and monitors all set up.
The point is, your baby will come, and when it's time, it will feel like it's too fast.
Good luck!
I got one with my first. But #2, my doctor wouldn't check on me until I was further dialated, and waited until I was too far to get it. #3 simply came too fast.
