We do Wildlife Rescue. One little batch of babies we received were midget raccoons. We assumed they were babies but once they became more active we realized what we had Miniatures.
We named them the Pointer Sisters. They would sleep in my husbands shoes or hat , so tiny that curled up together they looked like one normal raccoon.
Two of them remained fairly wild, one was a love bug. We called her Prunella. From the moment she laid eyes on us she was all cuddle, something we usually don't encourage but with her it was unavoidable. It was just her personality..We absolutely fell in love with her.
Eventually we ad to release her and the other two girls. They were ready. We maintain a room size cage outside with running water, nest boxes, logs and access in and out so we can slowly release our animals. We back off and give them minimal human contact and off they go at their own pace. We provide food for the first season and we watch them come an go.
One night long after release there was a horrendous rainstorm. We heard chirring at our bedroom window. There was Prunella, soaked and upset. We opened the window, let her in and toweled her off. So much for distancing, she ran for our bed, climbed under the covers, head on our pillow, sighed, a big long sigh, and went to sleep.
The visual was precious, the smell was beyond belief, damp, warm raccoon. You've seen the Pepe Le Piew cartoon, those little odor lines ?That was our poor little Prunella. She reeked. What could we do? I know remove her. Not us. We slipped towels under and around her . I had a perfume sample on my nightstand, I put a wee bit on her. Big mistake, now we had a Fendi and a reeking raccoon combintation.
It was a long odiferous night, she left the next morning after a nice breakfast and we still laugh about the story.

Weaining was unreal from bottle to cereal..messy messy messy.
A few years back a friend of ours had a raccoon home invasion. They came in through a pet door and completely trashed her kitchen. The got in the cupboards and spread food all over the place. The Karo syrup and maple syrup were the real problems. It was a complete disaster. She hired a crime scene cleanup company to deal with it.
