Hi I'm new here

Hello everyone!

I'm Minnie and a single mom of one boy, Nick who is 7 years old. He was dianosed at 3 yrs old. We live in North Carolina and loving it.

Today I got really frustrated with Nick. He got this obsession with anything stringy and loves books. So you maybe you're wondering "what's wrong with that?" Well you see, Nick started pulling some strings out of the carpet in his bedroom. Boy did he had fun with it. Now the carpet is destroyed. Maybe I should take a picture of it and show you what it looks like. Oh yeah and he even took most of the strings off his bed and tore it open. (Sighs)

And now Nick's obsession with books...He goes in his cousin's room, takes some books and hides them in his room. The next morning I found lots of pages torn out and stuffed in the drawers. He even destroy his own favorite books.

I am so stressed out!! How do I get him to stop?

Welcome to Gather. What was your son diagnosed with? It sounds like some of his behavior is pretty frustrating. Does he get help from special services at the school he attends that will help with behavior modification? I'm sure there are ways to help and a specialist in whatever his problem is probably can help you to help him. Good luck to you! Have you joined a parent support group? That might help you a lot too.

Hi Minnie, I've already pinged you a welcome but wanted to comment & welcome you once again to Gather. So sorry you're havin' a frustrating time with your Nick. I see Janet has given some good advice & I agree that momma Minnie needs a support group.

Hi Janet! He was diagnosed with Autism. He does get special services at school but he on summer vacation and doesn't go back til next month. He doesn't deal well with changes. I just signed up to attend a Autism support group meetings - The Johnston County Chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina meets at 10 a.m. the last Saturday of each month at my local church. I am looking forward to it.

I am sorry I can't give you specific help on how to stop it. But I CAN commisserate! Jaylen is obsessed with water. Causes lots of problems, as you can imagine. Just know you are not alone. We are all frustrated with ya girl! Just relax and know that no matter what you are doign the best you can. Even if you don't think so, just being there and being his mom is doing the best you can.
