The subject of autism ranked eighth in the top-ten hottest news topics
on Google in 2006, the superstar online search engine revealed.
Celebrity bad-girl Paris Hilton and social networking website Bebo
were the top two in all of Google.
The "Year-End Google Zeitgeist" top ten lists for general and news
searches on the Internet showed global interest in online socializing and
video viewing, as well as World Cup soccer, cancer, autism, celebrities and
Hurricane Katrina.
is this unbelievable or what? why are people looking for information about autism? what do they really want to know? who is doing the looking?
i feel that they need to do more research on this subject. our family has several members that are affected by aspergers and some sister-type things such as ADHD, OCD. i think they should pay particular attention to vocational issues too.
i did try the medicine route but the nurse practitioner decided that it would be better for me if i didn't take an antidepressant. i had a lot of side effects with restless leg syndrome and found out that this was fairly well documented for people with aspergers/autism. since i am moving from arizona to washington state, it was my last appointment.
but when i saw the counselor and told her that i was leaving, we were talking about voc rehab and my job skills. she said something that puzzled me. she said that since i have a disability, i would be paid less. i don't understand that. my disability has nothing to do with my job. in fact, i think my "disability"/gift enhances my job performance with strategies, concentration. the disability involves interpersonal relationships. i'd appreciate some feedback about this.

The last two paragraphs in this posting are on other subjects and probably better suited for separate discussions. My kids are 10 and 11 so no experience in the job sector yet, but my HFA son is planning on attending college and having a career working with animals, he is similar in his diagnosis to Temple Grandin, and she is very successful. My other son has been on antipsychotics for a few years now and I have heard of many parents being on meds, but I have never gone that route.
