This seems a bit pessimistic. We humans emerged from an evolutionary process, much like roses.

Part of that Evolution is to past through periods of light and darkness. Right now with all the distrust so evident may be a period of darkness

I think they know the circadian rythms and cycles of life and re-growth, but benign is probably a better word that good. (:
