Meet the dudes who made history happen. With quirky, inspired artwork by Rich Cando, History Dudes' look at the past is both irreverent and informative. Each book takes the reader on a journey through a key event, theme, or period in world history, with explanatory reference spreads, comic strips, and interviews with historical dudes along the way.

"History Dudes: Vikings" and "History Dudes: Ancient Egyptians":

* Brings the past to life in a unique, fun and appealing way
* Packed with amazing facts and hilarious historical anecdotes
* The strong visual appeal will engage even the most reluctant reader

Win a copy of each for your child! If you would like to write a review of these books for Gather, please leave a comment in the field below telling us why. Gather will randomly select 10 respondents to receive a free copy of each book.

Comments must be posted by Sunday, January 6th for a chance to win.

I'd like to review a copy of "History Dudes - Vikings" because my 4 1/2 year old grandson is into historical warriors. He loves swords, ships, armour, castles, etc. Besides being a adventurous, I'm thinking the book would be historically educational too.

I would be honored to review "History Dudes: Vikings" and "History Dudes: Ancient Egyptians".

As an aunt of many little girls I would love to read this book to them. Girls need to learn history too.

Personally, I have just begun writing reviews of books and find writing them to be exciting. Once I read a book, fall in love with it, I can't stop telling people about it!

I would like to review either or both of these books. I feel I can offer a 2 sided opinion, being a mom of a boy and girl plus being a teacher of 25 third graders. In addition to my review, I can offer the response I got from my class when they hear the book as well. Teachers are always looking for a fun way to introduce curriculum content and I think these books might be one way I could do it!

My little dude would LOVE this book! My son is in 1st grade and he loves to read! And he loves to learn new things. He's very interested in anything that is out there and is always full of questions. He is in the top reading level in his class and reading is something we have always enjoyed together!

Both of these books look WONDERFUL and we would be honored to get a copy to read, enjoy and review!

Books and reading are very important in our household and have been since before my children were born. My son will be 7 in March and my daughter will be 4 in less than 2 weeks, and I read to them while I was pregnant with them. Some people thought I was crazy, but for me it was special!

I would love to review these books. My littlest grandaughter she loves her big sister who is now 13. She is at that awkward age, and trying to be a woman, and is a little testy. They have always been so close, and I thought, as Stephanie loves her big sister, and looks up to her, what a great way for "Big Sis" to have fun with her, feel older, but still be that young lady that Stephanie adores. She won't be left out, as the age difference is so great, and she will have that one special time with Michelle.

My son has always read to the girls, and as they have gotten older, his obligations to give them what he wants has caused his free time to go down. So Stephanie would love her sister to fill in, it would be something they could do together, and she could still look up to her, and Michelle could feel "grown-"up reading to her. As Michelle gets older, until Stephanie is in "Big School" and has her own friends, losing Michelles full attention as she prepares for High School, thru sitting and having this time together, will keep them close thru both their transitions. Plus give Mom and Dad a break. Ellen B-Grandma at large.

I would LOVE to write a review of these books. As a single parent of three, I like to squeeze in time with each of my children. I think it's important that they each receive alone time with Mom. These books would be good for two of my children but especially my 8 year old son. He often feels left out by being the oldest and this would be the perfect way to connect with him a little more. He loves learning about history. He is like a little sponge! Plus I also love Viking and Ancient Egypt history so we'd be connecting and learning on something that we both enjoy.

I would love the opportunity to read and review either or both of these books. Our son will be 3 in about 2 weeks and has been able to read for over a year now. It's hard to find new books for him that are both fun and educational. It seems like when we go to the bookstore, we seem to buy the same types of books. It would be great to be able to give him something new and fun to read like this.

Dude! I would love to read and review both of these books! My kids are 4 and 2 and though they can't read by themselves yet, they both love for me and their daddy to read to them. We ready to them daily, multiple times, and I'm sure they would gladly sit and let us read to them all day long if we could. We try to find them books that are educational and where they learn something about the world around them. These sound like just what we are always looking for.

Dude, feeding a child's imagination with historical facts, can't get any better. We have visited the pyramids in Mexico and my grandchildren had a great time visiting the museums and learning about the Aztecs and Toltecs. How wonderful it would be to read to them about the Egyptians and the Vikings. Dude, that would be awesome!

I would love to review these two very interesting books for you - in addition, I will have my homeschooled 12 year old give his perspective in the review. He loves, loves, loves books and is always carring one around the house or in the car. He is facinated by history and loves to learn new things. For christmas he received several computer games about ancient history and they are favorites already :)

My husband and I have visted The Mayas and my 12 year old has borrowed our picture/history book that visually and verbally describes the Yucatan. I know he would enjoy both of these books filled with history and facts :)

As a homeschool mom, over the past years we have used Eyewitness and DK books so much to add more to the curriculum. The books are colorful, grab the kids' attention, and make history and science topics just come alive. I'd love to write a review of either of these books, both as a mom and as a teacher. These would also be terrific books to add to my son's personal library. He is the historian of the family.

Both my boys are total history finatics, as well as avid readers! My oldest son hosts a weekly story time at our church for the younger kids. He's a teenager and could only be considered "normal", if he chose to spend his time out with his friends and doing the typical selfish things that teenage boys do to make their mom's hair stand on end! lol Instead he chooses to give to others. Also the books he's been reading have been bought and paid for out of his allowance and the money he earns doing yard work in our community. He's a pretty swell kid, and I feel certain he'd be much appeciative if given the opportunity to share this book with others. We love doing reviews of the books we recieve and our favorite format to do so by video review,so it just might proove to be an interesting one! lol

I'd love to read this to my almost five-year-old granddaughter as her daddy is a cartoonist, and she would have a great appreciation for that part of the book as well. The truth, though, is I'd probably enjoy reading it just as much as she would.

I love all those quirky historical things that they never wrote about in the 'old days' when I went to school. History is really about people, after all, who are the most fascinating species on the planet. I may not remember a landmark or a cross street, but I find people to be the most fascinating and never forget a face.

History has always been an interest of mine [which is why I chose to major in it] and I'd like to pass that interest along to my grandsons. I live with my three grandsons, ages 8, 6, and 2 1/2 [and their mother too!] and every day we have 'reading time' at our house and these two books "History Dudes: Vikings" and "History Dudes: Ancient Egyptians" would be perfect not only for the kids but for me and their grown mother as well. You really can't go wrong if you are reading kids books with historical accuracy but told in a fun way and these two books look like they fit that criteria! I would love to do a book review of either book though I would lean a little more in the direction of "History Dudes: Ancient Egyptians" just because I am facinated by all things Ancient Egyptian. I try to never miss a documentary on the History Channel if it involves ancient history in some way [and sometimes the kids are in the room and have to watch with me!] :-)

I've always been a big history buff. I am entranced by former great civilizations, like the Egyptians, Kings of Old, Dynasties, Ancient Lost Civilizations, etc. I am a firm believer in those that don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it and try to instill in my children the importance about learning where our world has come from and what the people who molded this world were like. History, for children, is not always the most exciting subject, however. I would truly enjoy the chance to introduce these books to my children in hopes of showing them a more interesting way to look at history. Not only would you then have a review from an adult, but also from children who enjoy the stories of ancient warriors and kings, but have never connected fact and history to the stories.

I'd love to review these books. My son and daughter are History Channel fans. Some of the episodes about technology in the Wild West really captured their attention, as well as the series on ancient architecture. We'd love a chance to experience these books, and I'd be happy to write a review with the added benefit of a child's perspective.

I would Love a copy of "History Dudes" for my little dude. I have a five year whom I am home schooling. We just began history lessons over the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought Thanksgiving, what a great place to begin. He soaked it up like a sponge. Pilgrims, Indians, big boats, this was all so adventurous for a little fella. I would absolutely love to review this and it sounds like a fun addition to our lessons. Thank You for your consideration.

As a mother of three sons with very strong personalities, I am very interested in reading this book and writing a review on it. From what I have read, it embodies two of the lessons I try most to teach my sons: everyone needs a hero to look up to for inspiration, and history is the best teacher.

What an interesting idea: take two exciting times in history and make them "relevant" to today's kids. I have bought my grandchildren books on Sir Walter Raleigh, explorers, Temple Grandin, Jane Goodall, etc. What people have done in the past and continue to do to interact with and improve the world can be fascinating, and any books that present it as such to children should be encouraged.

These books would make a great gift for my eight year old grandchild who really enjoys reading. Ti looks to be full of neat graphics and sounds entertaining, I bet she will not be able to put it down. What a way to sneak in a little learning in the process. The illustrator's style and characters sound endearing and funny. ICan't wait to purchase the books in this series, if I do not win ; as I am sure they will have appeal for my grandaughter who loves history.

I would love to review either book but my daughter would probably like the Egyptian one best since she is already (at the age of 5) fascinated by Ancient Egyptian history and life. It ranks right up there with horses and dinosaurs on her list of things she enjoys :-) We would enjoy reading the book and providing a review -- we read constantly and could certainly provide a useful and enlightening review :-)

I love writing reader reviews. I guess I have a thing for writing essays and my daughter and I love to read. The Ancient Egyptians were one of the most interesting cultures ever and we're still influenced by their inventions today.
My kid would really be engaged and interested in thes books because she loves to ask questions about history and other cultures and why the sky is blue.

I enjoy writing reviews that will help other homeschoolers decide on good books for their kids. My perspective is that of a secular homeschooler. I would love to review these books. Children (and grown ups!) learn by connecting their current world to the new information. What better way to learn about history through a medium that makes the characters come alive and become someone the kids can relate to? My sons love to read, are enchanted by comics and fascinated by history. These books sound like a great way to combine all three of these interests.

I would love to review these books. History is my love and I think it's great that someone found a way to make it fun for kids.

As a homeschooling mom, of two boys who happen to be reluctant readers, I'd love to review these books.

I would love to review these books. I am the volunteer librarian at our small school, and these look like awesome additions to our library! While I would be thrilled to review these books, I think some of our students and/or teachers would also love the opportunity to read "Little Dudes" and review them as well. My daughter's third grade class is studying ancient Egyptians and learning hieroglyphics (hmm..did I spell that right??) next month. These books like like great teaching aids! Thanks!!

My nationality is australian so I guess I could write a review without going in knowing much about american history only what was told to me growing up in australia.
Children need these sort of books if they are written the right way they find learning fun and easy.

I have a 6 and 8 year old and I love to read so I'm always looking for children's books that will make them want to read more. My 8 year old is studying history and we just went to th National Treasure movie and he asked lots of questions about history. This book would be a great read for him.

Ancient Egyptian history is so facinating. lt would be great for the little ones to learn about them and at the same time encouraging them to read about history. thanks a lot for the contest.

I've never heard of these books before, but they look great. I would love to write a review on them. As a father of a 3 year old and a 1 1/2 year old, as well as a teacher of ancient history, I can't wait to have the opportunity to share them with both my own children and my kids in school. (Seventh graders enjoy being read to as well, even if they don't admit it)

I'd love to review it. It's hard to get boys to read. This seems like a good way to do it. My neighbor has resorted to "CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS" to get her son to read!

My family background is Danish, and my grandsons (ages 9 and 10) would be thrilled to read books about Vikings. I'm always looking for history books for them because our American schools don't teach enough about other countries or cultures. I would write thoughtful reviews of both books. Thank you.

There has always been a particular fascination with all things Egyptian for us so it would be wonderful to review that one but I'd be delighted to do either.

As a history lover and history major in college, I am always looking for ways to educate my children in this subject. These books look fun - what better way to instill a love of things of the past than a fun , informative, read. I would love to critique these books.

I would definitely love to read and review these books, and read these books with my husband and my daughter. My husband is a "history" fan. One of his goal is actually to be a history teacher for kids (high school and below). I think these books will be very interesting and beneficial.

I would love to review these books. My daughter loves being read to (she is three and a half) and we don't have any history books YET. I am involved in a few different groups in my area with pre-school and elementary school aged children. I would love to help spread the word about your books!

Both my kids would love to write reviews of the books, and the funny thing is, they like different ones. My daughter likes the History Dudes - Vikings, but my son prefers History Dudes - Egypt. Christopher is in a world history class at school, so he is studying the ancient Egyptians.
