Freecycle

Check out yahoo groups and see if there is a Freecycle in your area.  People post things they need or want and things they want to be rid of.  I haven't posted any "needs" but I regularly check out what other people need.  I recently gave some clothes that my kids had outgrown and an air conditoner unit we didn't need anymore.  There is no selling, trading, etc.  Everything is free.  The main point is to keep perfectly good stuff and slightly used things out of the landfills and give them to someone who will use them.

I read about this the other day in an article reply. I checked it out and signed up for my area. It's interesting to see what people ask for and what others are giving away. I wish I would have known about this when I cleaned out my house to get it ready to sell. I donated my stuff to a local thrift store, but it would have been nice to give someone the option of going through the stuff first to see if they needed any of it for free.

Sounds like a great idea - over here things go to charity shops but I always prefer to give to someone who actually needs the stuff. Moya

I LOVE freecycle! Unfortunately to every good thing must come something that's not so good. Freecycle is just like ebay in a lot of ways. There are so MANY people on the site who post the "gimmie gimmie gimmie" comments without even TRYING to give something that they don't even need or want. I just hope it doesn't turn into an even bigger circus than it already is. Maybe this is just in MY area but I hope that it's a lot more civil than it is elsewhere.

Just like anything good, some people take advantage...but the nice thing about freecycle is that the person who has something to give can choose which response they want to answer. I just ignore all of the people who want cars, houses and laptop computers, but I get a chuckle out of it all the same.

We belong to the Freecycle chapter right here in our own state, and its a wonderful organization for keeping perfectly good items out of our growing landfills. I've donated furniture and a used washer and dryer once. Some people do want laptop pc's and cars, and I smirk at those, cuz prolly not gonna happen..lol

I've used freecycle, got some sea glass i needed free for my candle making...i have given stuff away that i no longer use also...i think it is a good site...
