I love to take something and turn it into something else! Here are a few things that are commonly thown away that I reuse.
1) Greeting Cards (especially Christmas cards) ----Christmas cards have endless uses at my house. I cut out the picture on the front and use for gift tags on packages and gift bags.
Cut the picture out normally or with decorative edge scissors, run a thin line of glue around the edge and sprinkle with glitter. Holepunch a hole in the top, run a ribbon thru, and hang on your Christmas tree for a unique and beautiful ornament.
Use the pictures as a background or embellishment in a scrapbook.
2) Re-sealable plastic bags that grated cheese, carrots, rice, etc come in make great freezer bags. Fill the bags with your item (make sure it's airtight first) and write the contents and date on the front with a freezer pen. No more Ziplocs to buy!
3) I've fallen love with those awesome tubes M & M Minis come in. They have become craft supply holders, screw and nail jars, pill boxes, mailing tubes (I sent my step sons birthday party invitations out in them--too fun!) button boxes, and needle & pin containers at my home. The list could go forever. Just remove the M & M label and fill!
4) Whenever I get junk mail, I check the back of the paper before I throw it out. If one side of the paper is blank, it gets cut into smaller squares to be used as scrap paper. Get for jotting down a grocery or to-do list.
5) I don't re-use these at home but I do give them to someone else---magazines. Donate them to a nursing home, library, daycare (children's magazines, of course), schools, etc. I usually give mine to a friend who works with the mentally challenged, teaching them to read.
Anyone else got some more great recycling tip? Please post them!

great for saving change period. Some people make trask cans out od christmas card fronts. make holes in the sides put them together with pretty yarn and make heavy cardboard bottom. now add a trash liner and you have a pretty trash can
The mini m&m containers make great micro geocaches.
bread tags, with the date even better
old cd's can be embellished or even zapped in the microwave for 3 seconds.. they crackle into neat lightning shapes. Not to mention it freaks out the kids and husband when there is a lightning storm in your microwave.
scraps of material, wire, screening, washer rings, metal nuts, etc can be used.
look at everything before you throw it out.. you will amazed at the new uses you can come up with!
Great article!
I have soo many ideas to use stuff. Too bad I don't have as much time as I do creativity. LOL
