I found out that my doctor retired Thursday.

I'm devastated.  He just quit.  After 20 years of going to this man, I got a letter today saying he retired Thursday, December 11.  I could just cry.  I couldn't even say good-bye to him.  I'm really bummed out!

That stinks.
Hey, my doctor just told me she no longer wanted to be my doctor because my insurance pays $1 less per visit than the next more lucrative insurance plan. She dumped me and 5 other patients. The front desk person told me we were just too much of a hassle. Thanks. Thanks alot.

Thanks is too bad. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and my surgeon retired shortly after my surgery. I had planned to followup with him for all my after surgery visits. I felt kind of lost afterwards. I went to one other gyn for one followup and he did not seem to care, so I have not had any other followup visits with anyone. Thank goodness i healed ok. I can imagine how hard it is for you after all those year with the same dr.

Carol, maybe you could write a letter to him in care of the office address, or put a letter to him in an SASE envelope, and put all that in another envelope with a cover letter asking the office manager to send it to him, so you can say "Goodbye, Good Luck, I'll miss you" and have some closure! Just an idea...

I am sure you will miss him. Once you become accustomed to one doctor it is difficult to seek out a new one.

You find a Doctor that is good and that you like and then he retires or moves away. In this case retires after 20 years as Your Doctor. That is a major Bummer. Good luck with the doctor who took over his practice. I think your old doctor probably picked him because he knew his stuff and could take care of his patients. There is a great deal of priportorship (sp) for a doctor for His patients just as there is the same for the patients toward the doctor. He would want the best for His patients.

That just happened recently with our pediatrician. She was the one that helped to save my little boys life when he was born. She was young, though. But one day she just up and moved. I didn't want to take my children anywhere else.

aw that's a shame to hear. There are some health professionals you really get attached to because you've been going to them for a long time and they truly care. I've been going to the same dentist for over a decade and I love him. He's been my dad since he was a kid and mine (I'm 21) and I wouldn't want to go to another one. I fear the day he retires since he's getting up there...

Unfortunately, there probably be a lot more doctors retiring and just quitting. The cost to do business is just too high, even though they have chosen their profession insurance companies want to tell them how to run their practices, not to mention all the people out there that think they can make a quick buck by screaming malpractice its sad, when you stop and think about it.
