I happen to agree with this a LOT. Colorado is working on a bill that will allow the death penalty for convicted child rapists whose victims were 12 years of age or younger. I think this is a good idea simple people anyone that would rape a child that young is a threat to society and shows an obvious mental defect that won't be cured with prison time. Colorado is trying to send a tough message to people who get their sexual kicks at the expense of children. I doubt that the bill will actually go through, but I think it's a step in the right direction for what needs to be done with child molesters and the like. Protect our children!

Of course, this also allow us to release those we find were falsely convicted and we know for sure that many innocent persons have been convicted.
don't get me wrong, there is nothing I would love to see than a scum child molester at the end of a rope, but mistakes happen and death can never be reverse.
The innocents on death row argument is kind of pointless. Most people on death row spend quite a few years there while appeals and other things go through. It's not like the old days where people are hauled out of the courthouse and strung up.
The cost of appeals, the cost of attorneys (often at this point picked up by the state), court costs, state attorney's etc.....all adds up to huge bucks.
There are a few people out there that will take a capital appeals case for free but not many.

However, I disagree with the "taxpayer dollars" argument that is being put forth here. Realistically, it costs more to carry out an execution in most cases than it does to imprison a person for life.
With those caveats, I think that this is a type of crime where the death panalty should be considered.
Unless it is you or a love one that is mistakenly executed.
I can't remember what state it was had a law similar to this and he was spared by the supreme court overturing the sentencing, and is now in prison, life with no parole.....they called it 'cruel and unusual punishment' and to sever for the crime. That's what the lawyers argued and won.
While I agree with this, there needs to be a slam dunk, no holes conviction.
I don't agree with innocents dying...
