2.1 million dollars to give to charity which charity would it be? I took the figure from Rush Limbaugh's Ebay auction. I like the charity he picked but that aside, which charity would you pick?
I'd use it to find homes for the foster children here in America. Then, if I could make it grow, I'd start overseas. But take care of our own babies first. Anybody here me?
I would give to Cease Fire which works to reduce gang violence in the inner city. The state is cutting back and Chicago had two innocent kids get gunned down by gang cross fire this week. We had over two dozen school age kids die the same way last school year. I live in the burbs but grew up in the city and this gang stuff has gotten out of control.
I don't think I would give to one charity. I would divide between a couple - American Cancer Society (to be used for mamograms and other prescreenings for those who can't afford it), Operation Uplink (to purchase prepaid phone calling cards for the troops over seas and disabled vets), and MDA.
All wonderful. Maybe the government should stop helping other countries form democracies and help Americans. I know that's radical thinking for a Republican, but I believe it.
Carol, I'm not sure which charity I'd donate the money too, I'd have to think on that one long and hard, but I agree completely that we should help those in our own country who are need before helping the rest of the world. No! I'm not saying we should never help out in other countries as needed, only that we need to tend to our home fires first. Just my opinion.
Habitat for Humanity would be a great one. It is so important to increase homeownership for stable neighborhoods. And there are still so many willing to work to build new homes in New Orleans.
I don't know if I'd be able to pick ONE charity to give it to... I think I would try to spread it around to a few of them after careful consideration and discussion with my wife.
Some of my money would go to a local organization, The Denver Dumb Friends League. A good proportion would also go to AIDS research, treatment and education. I would buy books for schools, and, well, there are so many great organizations out there doing amazing work. I'd want to support what I could.
You guys who have the 2.1 million dollars can break it up however you please. My heart aches for children in foster care. They must think, " Why am i unloved?" I think i'm taking one more. My family thinks I'm nuts, but my heart looks at the baby I saved, and she brings me such immense joy to watch her eat, sleep, and be safe. I would save every child in the world if I could but i'm running out of house but not heart. As for crazy, well so I'm a little crazy. I love the song, "I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell."
I don't think I could give to just one either. MDA and the Cancer Society for sure, but I would like to find smaller charities as well that aren't as well known and supported.
