I Never Once Tried to Hire a Hit Man - or
What? Another Five Positive Things About Me?
It took a while to come up with them and the first title line is one of the ones I came up with and discarded. Nor would it do to mention how alluring my husband finds me LOL
No Backers -Do you remember that phrase from your school days? I think that I may be using it from now on because I found it a little difficult to think of another five positive things about that I actually want to share with Gather readers. Jay M. tagged me just minutes before discovering that I had already been tagged and had written my obligatory piece.
So after much self-scrutiny and agonizing I have come up with the following list:
1) I have recently started to ride a bike again for exercise after 17 years. It may be true that you never forget how to ride one but what is not mentioned by the advocates of taking it up again is that the older you get the more inhibited you are by other vehicles on the road and riding around a large parking lot after hours for practice loses its novelty after just a few minutes. Still each time I go out the terror seems a little less. I actually find I am able to stay on the bike through an intersection instead of dismounting and walking across. Once I have mastered this I will dust off the roller blades again and perhaps I too can weave my way through traffic with speed and aplomb.
2) I like to turn adversity into advantage. For instance two years ago my tennis for fun and competition was stalled due to a dislocation of the sterno-clavicular joint. This is a comparatively rare injury but I managed to do it to myself just by lunging for a backhand shot. So with time on my hands and not wanting to waste it I found some recipes on the Internet and taught myself to cook decent meals instead of merely heating food. I discovered to my great surprise that I was actually enjoying it for the first time in my life and this at the age of 60! A nice side benefit of this is that my new menus with healthful appetizing meals have allowed me to lose 10 pounds over the last year.
AllRecipes.com is one of my favourite resources when looking for new ideas.
3) I am fairly frugal and recycle, freecycle and frequent my town's 3 shops for gently used items.
4) I don't lie to myself and when I have made a mistake, even a calamitous one, or done something wrong, I forgive myself and resolve not to do it again. I feel it is counter-productive to go on flogging myself and better to get on with repairing the damage.
5) I like to pass on tips to my friends. Yesterday I responded to an invitation to read a review/interview by Gather member Aaron Lazar of Beryl Singleton Bissell's book "A Scent of God". Beryl is also a member of Gather and the interview portion made me feel that I would like to know both Aaron and Beryl better. The book sounded as if I would like to read it and I ordered a copy right away from Amazon. To read the review and interview go to:

As a bonus 6th positive thing about me I can assure you all that I never once tried to hire a hit man when I divorced my first husband.
I am now tagging:
Ricky Peters
Chip - HUH? Whadda Say? Davis
Joel Carillet
Stephanie S.
Kirby B
and in conclusion No Backers!

I've seen lots of guys get divorced. Then the body is found.
hell, just kidding, I better say admit that in case of internet police
I've never been "tagged" an am clueless but I'll get it done. Thanks.
I also rollerblade and bike ride. I prefer the rollerblades to the moutain bike but like you I took a break from biking for a lot of years so perhaps its just getting used to it again.
(Just kidding... I don't need a hit man after me either...)
One of the things which sticks in my mind happened two years ago. I belong BookCrossing which has a very active chat forum. I was having so much fun that I completely overlooked the deadline for an RRSP investment and that cost us over $3000 in extra taxes!!! I have forgiven myself but not forgotten. I still belong but I don't spend time chatting anymore. (well not there anyway ~~VBG ~~)
