I was listening to my new Patty Griffin CD and it got me to thinking, would I go up to her at a concert and tell her how much I enjoy her work? I think the answer is no, because I might find it too scary. It's the exact opposite of someone like Arlo Guthrie, who seems like part of the folk community. Greg Brown terrifies me (but I don't know him, he could be very approachable), his wife, Iris DeMent, is very chatty in concert. Who would make your list (deservedly or not)?

but compare him to Clapton or McCartney and I think they are much more open to new voices, thoughts, sounds and presentations.. though Dylan is a master at all those things as evidenced in his latest CD.. (BTW, review not forthcoming on Dylan because I can't get any support material from his label.. like photos and streams.)
I have talked to a great number of artists on the telephone and have no problem talking to them.. some have been exceedingly generous in time and giving of themselves. Others I have found you really have to *work* at those open ended questions to get them to the topic that makes them relax and open up.... and that can be exhausting..
