I was born in the 60's. Early enough to be alive when JFK was shot, but not old enough to remember anything about it. I do remember the original TV show Dark Shadows and the complete lyrics of the old Spiderman cartoon, though! LOL
My appreciation of 60's music came from the people I lived with as I moved around as a child. From The Beatles, The Monkees, Joan Baez, Elvis, Melanie, The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Janis Joplin, Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Buffy St Marie, classical, Yma Sumac, ALL sorts of stuff! ... musicals from My Fair Lady and Oliver! to Hair and JCS.
It's been a real treat to see my children grow up and learn to appreciate alot of that music on it's merit. My daughter is into musical theater and did JCS last year. She and friend watched Hair just recently too and it was so much fun to shock her by knowing the songs from both by heart! She thinks I'm much cooler now as a result! :-)
What sort of music or other 60's stuff have you passed on to your children or friends and family? What's their reaction and what do they like about it? or not...

Since I was pretty small during the 60's, I find that most of what I remember is the 70's. :-p The 70's were ok, but I did have the dubious pleasure of passing on a giggling "fondness" for the completely stupid song, Midnight at the Oasis! It's the silliest song I've ever heard (that didn't TRY to be) and it makes me laugh every time I hear it.
My other daughter used to hear it at work on the continuous-loop music tapes they play. I can't believe someone actually CHOSE to put that song on at a place where others would hear it! LOL
I have a friend who's really into music, especially UK music of the era and into the 70's and 80's. He knows stuff like who was producing these guys, who influenced them, what they were doing on the side, what kind of instruments they played, who did their backup... all sorts of stuff!!! He's a regular fount of music trivia and really interesting facts!
Those are all good ones! Johnny Horton, Tom T. Hall and The Statler Brothers are some I forgot about, but my kids and I love listening to them too. And Aretha Franklin is AWESOME!
