Here are some of the best reference sources for polymer clay:
Glass Attic - This is Diane Black's encyclopedia of (mostly online) polymer clay knowledge. She is so cool to have done this for everyone.

try the table of contents, it's so visual, much easier for me than a straight list.

Polymer Clay Central - It's just too much to explain, you'll have to look.

Sculpey Clay's site - they make Premo Clay, which is my favorite mostly because of the colors I've learned to love. And I love the texture of the clay, too. Starting in Polymer Clay, then start with Sculpey 101 on this page:

When you feel like it move on to the projects - here's one I will have to try:
http://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects_ChunkyChannels.htm
and this one is so simple to make and so nice and you don't have to use eraser clay, that's just their suggestion:

P.S. when I go back and learn to make working links I'll fix this.

Meanwhile the next best thing is talking about clay.
If you have ANY questions, ask. If I don't know maybe it will lead me on some fun searches. :)
and your article was fun. Sorry someone stole that truck, but it was a cool story about how they messed up the theft.
I know this is an older article but wanted to thank you for dropping by with a comment. The Last Unicorn was an absolute favorite of mine too, still recall the impact it had on me and I don't usually like fantasy style books.
