Today Sci-fi / Fantasy Quote From Dune #1

I love good quotes.  I have seen lots of people giving quote on famous religious figures, famous politicians, etc.  But some of my favorite quotes are from science fiction or fantasy books, movies, and TV shows.  Here is a quote from the SF novel Dune by Frank Herbert.

 

Dune. The Fear Litany:

 
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total
obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past
I will turn my inner eye to see it's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Very good counsel on how to separate oneself from fear. Fear is always ready to come in and difficult to get free from when it does.

That was pretty nice! Sci-Fi does have its share of good quotes. I love finding a line or so from an episode of Law & Order (CI and SVU included) and writing it down. I think I have some of them in a file on my computer somewhere.

Interesting.. I've never even heard of the book or the movie.. or whatnot.. but quote is very good.

Chick, this is one of my favorite quotes, too. (I read the book seven times and memorized a lot of them.) My favorite from this book was when Liet Kynes was dying in the desert. And he watched the hawks circling above him. (I'm doing this from memory so please forgive any mistakes, but what I seem to remember him saying was ... ) "Accident and error are the most persistent principles of the universe; even the hawks understand this truth." (Was that the quote? Maybe you have the book handy.) Thanks for posting this, Chick - and nice to meet a fellow sci-fi fan of Frank Herbert. :)

Deep thought. There are so many sci-fi books that are easy to forget after reading them. Others stay with you forever. Some say so much, they deserve reading again and again.
