The best scifi show on TV will have its last season in 2008. Producers Ronald Moore and David Eick said the next run of 22 episodes will be the last for Battlestar Galactic. They decided to bring the story to its conclusion. Don't believe me? The news is here:

While I will miss seeing such compelling television, I like that they're planning to go out on top and with a decisive ending. Far too often, shows go on well beyond their good years and the final sputtering seasons tarnish their legacy and suck out the enjoyment of die-hards. X-Files. Need I say more?
Some shows are yanked suddenedly, before major plot lines can be resolved. Sometimes this happens at a major twist or point of tension. Surface was yanked after the sea monsters invaided the world. Invasion's only season ended with it being unclear whether the main character's love interest was taken by aliens or dead. Jericho's only season just ended in the middle of a war between two towns.
Given that all TV series will end at some point (besides the Simpsons, apparently), Battlestar's carefully planned ending is the best thing that can happen. I trust the producers to make it a fun ride and leave us satisfied with their great body of work. It's good to know that all the mysteries will be solved and character conflicts can have closure.
Can't stand to see Battlestar go? Perhaps the story can live on in books, movies and video games. The real question is: Will we ever see another excellent space adventure series like this surface?
