Teenagers who regularly watch pro wrestling
are more likely than their peers to engage in,
or become the victims of, dating violence.

That troubling finding is revealed in a new study
published in the well-known journal Pediatrics.

The study, conducted by
Wake Forest University researchers,
was based on interviews with more than 2,200 male
and female high school students.

Dating a fan of pro wrestling? You may end up getting a smackdown.

Among those students surveyed,
male viewers of pro wrestling were
a stunning 77% more likely
to have been the perpetrators
of dating violence.

Females who regularly watched
pro wrestling were even more likely
to engage in dating violence, at 170%.

Researchers suggested that viewing
dramatized depictions of violence
on TV could have a desensitizing
effect on many teens.

TO AUTHOR of this article. Thank you! It's about time someone brought attention to treating women with respect, and revealed that this wrestling garbage is not only disrespectful to women, but also has ramifications causing children to mimic this kind of stuff and grow up to commit these kinds of foul acts.

AND TO MARY P=YOU ARE DISGUSTING for posting a fake post and despicable fake rape claim, you set back women all over the world 40 years. Your post is obviously fake and its awful of you to use such a serious thing to get your laughs and your little prank. You claim to have gotten a black belt in KARATE BY WATCHING WRESTLING on Television?? come on. That's like saying you became a Pro Football player by watching NBA BASKETBALL on TV. Dont insult the intelligence of women here. Wrestling doesn't allow kicks with the feet, wrestling has no KATA, and KARATE does not have practitioners with microphones, nor does Karate have men running around little blue spandex leotards. You dont get an authentic certificate from a Japanese Karate Sensei coming out of a tv set with caped goons on it. The only think You have a blackbelt in, is lying, and fake posts. And you should be ashamed of yourself for using rape as a joke. It isn't funny. Nobody is laughing. And don't try to come back and type stuff like 'no i was really raped' and really did use karate I learned watching fake wrestlers in leotards, because nobody believes your crap.

Good article! That study is 100% correct. I see kids and even older people mimicking this stuff all the time. And thinking it's some how acceptable. Which it is not. And that photo is brilliant-that is astounding that little boy in the background of that picture clapping and smiling as the woman is getting choked. That should be a wakeup call to the entire industry and about time people take a stand for women.

I agree with Trenna B ! THAT PERSON MARY P. IS TERRIBLE! shameful. Dont ever joke about rape. That MARY P. PERSON has all kinds of other trash on their own pages such as saying how that VIRGINIA TECH murdere was Justified and should have been allowed and to have a gun. Other posts by MARY P. are about some kind of other made-up stuff about some guy named BANDAGE man that kills people and seeps Blood and PUS out of himself, and leaves bloody bandages around or something. This MARY P. needs to up their dosage on their medication, because the current amount her doctor has prescribed is not enough. And yeah, MARY P. don't bother coming back around claiming its true its true and your blah blah blah because once you lie about it one time, nobody trusts you or believes you. You got a Black belt in Karate from watching wrestling, that would be hysterical if you hadn't just lied about rape. That just makes you shameful.

I am glad that you took the whole thing about Star Trek being cancelled out of your post and gave this issues what it truly deserves, ATTENTION. I made a post commenting on it, and quite frankly, I was upset at the fact that the WWE/ECW was the only Target of the media when there are SEVERAL other Wrestling Promotions out there doing it and No attention was ever given to them. I was upset at the fact that you too would be blaming 1 of MANY other people. Like I said in my post, I am in COMPLETE agreeance that it should be removed from ANY show of the public TV nature now matter if its wrestling or not. Parents can block that content from being watch on any other station.
