It seems to me that, everytime we get a good Sci-Fi show on TV, it has to fight for its continued existance. Why is that? I have seen far to many good to excellent shows, fall to the whim of some, Science Fiction Mentally Challenged, production vice president or combination of them. When will the networks and the cable channels wake up and smell the coffee? They need to put folks in charge of these great properties, that understand both the fans and the content.
I recenly noted that some of these "SFMC" have put some the most disgusting garbage on the Sci-Fi channel. I am speaking of the really bad "B" movies and hold your nose "Wrestling". To do this they are taking money they should be spending on worthwhile content, such as Stargate SG-1 and other shows they have canceled in the past, FarScape etc, and they are throwing it away on Trashy programing that insults our intellegence. If they are going to show this junk all the time then they are going to loose a lot of viewers. I guess they think they are going to pick up a bunch of young male viewers with this type of programing. Well they don't understand that they can't compeat with Video games and the internet for these folks attention. As short as it is.
All they have to do is cancel Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica and Eureka and we will have a cleen sweep. Then they can rename the channel. Something like "THE BAD MOVIE CHANNEL, would be fitting, or the "Waste of Time Channel", and their new logo could be "WOT?"
You see I don't consider "HEROES" or "Dr Who" as theres. They are just rebroadcasts from other channels.
The last few movies that have aired on Sci-Fi were such Groaners that I had to turn them off after the first 30 minutes. What is wrong with these folks? Do they think they have no competition on other channels at the same time? Do they actually think these BAD movies are worth our time?
What other junk are they planing on using to replace the unreplaceable Stargate SG-1? They are following the example of the clueless folks at Paramont. They put those two idiots in charge of Star Trek, after Roddenberry passed away. Look what they did. They ground Star Trek into the dirt. They didn't care about what the fans wanted, and they thought they knew what was best for each of the Star Trek spin-offs. Well they were wrong on both counts. We are seeing the same thing happen to the Sci-Fi channel. I have been a connoisseur of good Sci-Fi for most of my life. I was intorduced to it as a young child through the writings of some of Sci-Fi's past masters, such as H.G.Wells, Asimov, and other greats. In my oppinion these people in charge at the Sci-Fi channel don't have a clue !
I think that, if the parent company's execs don't care enough about this channel to keep it on the right track, they should sell it to someone that dose care. Heck Ted Turner would do a better job than they are, and I doubt that he is a large Sci-Fi fan.
Change for changes sake is not a good thing. Stargate SG-1 still has millions of fans around the world that tune in every time its on. So what are these folks missing that is obvious to everyone else? A marketing dept that actually dose current viewer research? Well then they should hire someone to do it for them, so they can get a clue. SG-1 is one of the only inovative Sci-Fi tv shows on right now. It still has hundreds of possibilitys for story lines and the cast is still at the top of their game. The whold idea of bringing in new folks (from the canceled FarScape, no less) to invigorate the show worked like a charm. It has brought a whole load of old FarScape fans into the SG-1 fold. So canceling it at this time is just not only dumb but it has to rank up there with the monumental stupidity of canceling FireFly and FarScape. Two shows that had tons of potential left untapped by folks with no foresite or imagination, IE; SFMC ! Canceling SG-1 is not only wrong but its stupid.
I know there has to be thousands of US fans that agree with me. After all, we are the folks that made Lord of the Rings and Star Wars such money makers. Look at all the recent "Comic Book" based movies that have come out and made millions. It's Sci-Fi fans that make them so profitable. Why can't these network Stuffed Shirts at least "Buy" a clue ? ? ?
All we can do is try to get them to listen. Sign pettitions, send them e-mails and hope. We are the folks that buy the soap that is advertised on their channel. What are they going to do if we stop watching. They are going to go down the tubes, just like Tech TV.

Everyone else and half the known world are shaking their heads going What on Earth are they THINKING? So it's not very widespread. Just mainly 1 or 2 of them. So that is why there is activity to get them out of there.
On www.TheSUPERGATE.com are the addresses to email and express your feelings about this.
SciFi channel is owned by NBC. NBC is actually NBC Universal, they operate Universal Music which puts forth things like gangster rap and whatever other pop music is promoted these days. With French sewage company "vivendi". NBC Universal owns interscope records. Anyway, the WHOLE deal, all of that, the entire NBC Universal, tv music, studios, everything, is owned BY GENERAL ELECTRIC CORPORATION. GE. So you will find listed on The SUPERGATE website the emails, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, and ways to send free faxes and comments to all the executive board members of GE. And you can voice your opinions, and send a fax right into their office telling them to get rid of Mark Stern, and to put back the shows that you liked. And to get the Fake Wrestling off the channel meant for thought-provoking science fiction and move it back to USA network where its home originally was.
By the way, Mark Stern just ok'd and PAID a ton of the SciFi channel's money to approve a contract for the production of 10 more of the low-quality (cheap home-computer generated snake-alien-fish attacks teens in a ....) B-movies.
Also, Bonnie Hammer at SciFi channel just issued a PRESS RELEASE saying she ok'd and renewed the contract for ECW Professional Wrestling until the end of the year 2007. So thanks to these 2, you get to watch another year of sweat-stained roid-raging individuals in partial clown-makeup and little speedos arguing against eachother via a microphone before they pretend to fight with thumbtacks and chreography. Spandex cape is optional these days, but the hooded-mask is on a comeback. But thanks to NBC Sci Fi channel you'll have another entire year to watch it and see how that plays out.
Unless of course you're through with it already and want to jump on over to The Supergate (LINK: http://www.TheSuperGate.com ) and tell these people what the rest of the world thinks about all of this.
Mark Stern by the way is also the chap who cancelled FARSCAPE. Many people liked that show as well.
I was very very angry when they cancelled Deep Space 9 too. My heart has been broken too many times. I'm shocked thoughtful shows get cancelled, but crap like Maury Povich and Dancing with the Stars don't seem to.
I, for one, am glad they are showing "Doctor Who" because I wouldnt be able to see it otherwise, but I agree with your other points. And ECW doesn't belong on the SciFi channel!!!

Every little bit helps.
Mark Stern just moved Battlestar Galactica from Friday nights to SUNDAY nights, and BSG has now gone down in ratings.
Mark Stern is the one who disrupted the Friday night lineup of 3 blockbusters in august: Stargate SG1 - BSG - Stargate Atlantis which got HUGE ratings, but he is the one who cut the ANCHOR show Stargate SG1, and then moved BSG to air months later, and expected it to be their new darling hit... it wasn't. Without the same friday lineup, and without Stargate SG1, Battlestar Galactica's ratings took a dump. And were not what they expected.
Yes, Stargate SG1 is a little more for the intellectual that catches the subtle humour and jokes, and is more scientific rather than the BSG which is more for 'I like a soap opera in space' type, but sure, both are good shows, and anyone will take both of them above these other poor quality things like MTV's "I'm a 16 year old princess and deserve a show about me and my lexus on my birthday"shows. So all Stargate fans, BSG fans, Farscape fans, Firefly fans, should unite, work together, appreciate eachothers shows and not divide, but rather JOIN FORCES and help eachother get them all back on, and more.
I gave you the links already.

It's all there: --> www.THESUPERGATE.com
I think they need to start another asking Universal to dump both Mark Stern, head of programming and Bonnie Hammer, NBC Universal SciFi channel president, for their extreamly poor handling of the Sci-Fi channel.
I love Heroes. It's one of my shows I can't miss.
And that due to Mark Stern, all the webisodes for BSG are cancelled, and there is a work stoppage by the cast, crew, directors, writers, for Battlestar Galactica regarding all further webisodes because Sci Fi channel is not paying proper royalties and wants to keep all of the proceeds and use it for advertising. But like you said, the webisodes 'had a good run'. INSTEAD, you get to watch another season of Fat Momma the superhero that throws donuts at people! (yep, Stern ordered another season of that show too)
I think you missed the point that the supergate already has it set up that you can fax that message right into the offices of the executive chairman of the board for GE, owners of entire NBC Universal Sci fi unit. Did you not go or read the site at all?
There is no need to start individual tiny petitions 1 for each new slant, that will have to begin again at 0 and climb to the tens of thousands again, when you, YOU, can email, write, and fax right into the offices of the president. And also ring them right up on the phone. Petitions are great, but That is extremely effective. And you have the power to do it. :)
actually, no, I'm not. I did not agree with the Sci-fi's decision to air ECW, nor do I like many of it's 'exclusive' movies, but my opionions on the writing of the last two season of Stargate has nothing to do with that. The show had been on the air longer than any other science fiction show in the US in the history of the genre. That's quite an accomplishment. But all good things must come to an end eventually... and if the show could not be written well than perhaps it shouldn't be written at all, and I'll be the first to admit that I did not think the show was being written as well in its last two seasons as it had been previously. There is also the fact, that to some extent, Stargate:SG1 will live on through Stargate: Atlantis. I'm sure the Pegasus galaxy will need to contact the SGA every so often or even visit Stargate Command upon occassion.
Hmm. none of the original famous wrestlers are still in the show. It still takes place inside the contained setting of a 20 foot ring. A constricted setting quite a bit smaller than "the entire galaxy, anywhere on earth, forward and backward in time, other planets, any being, charactor or entity conceivable to the imagination" that is available to explore by another unmentioned show. And wrestling consists of an hour or 2 hours of 2 men bickering. But if it lasted 25 years, which is a good run, the writing of wrestling shows must be amazing to top itself 25 times year after year. It will also continue. Probably for another 20 years of professional wrestling which will continue to be aired and watched and emulated by junior high school students the world over. So by that time, they will have honed their writing skills to a new pinnacle of achievement. It's going to be sooo good by that time, after topping itself in quality year after year that the script of professional wrestling by that time will probably be up for a Pulitzer prize. It will be the best bickering the world has ever seen. And imagine how small the speedos will be by that time. (To make the show 'edgy' as they call it.) Now I can see why some shows definitely need to be cancelled and others, like wrestling must live on.
If you chose to pretend that the two are directly related, go ahead, but the dates show otherwise.

Just having a bit of fun with him, we are always kidding eachother around here :))
Plus, it's the same team that writes Atlantis. hehe. SG1 and Atlantis have the same crew, same production unit, and all done in the same studio up here. And the writing has been amazing, especially in the last 2 seasons, and with the Ori. Rick really enjoys it too. And Claudia is a blast to work with, she has added a a wonderful fresh new fun attitude, a little spice and that extra Zing to the show. MGM actually went the extra mile and paid the difference and at no expense to sci fi channel to obtain Beau, Ben, and Claudia who were already known favorites, loved in the sci fi community and gave them contracts after sci fi killed Farscape and they love it. They really appreciate all the fans and are honored at the chance to be a part of such a fun series of shows. It's a lot of fun. was.
Consider your links well taken. I'll not only petition and sign, I'll shut off SciFi and write a letter.
Thanx for the heads up.
(And I'll always be a Richard Dean Anderson fan no matter WHERE he goes!)

Comments From fans about the STARGATE convention that took place in Burbank, California, Nov 2006:
"I'd have to say that the stars of America's best two shows are some of the nicest people I've seen interact with an audience. The whole convention was a lot of fun."
"Tony Amendola, Bra'tac, was very erudite and recounted much of his career. ..."
"Michael Shanks was about the nicest star you can meet. During my wife's and my picture with him, he greeted us very warmly and, during his QandA was the most animated star. He recounted several very funny stories including one where he put a pudding-stained paper on Chris Judge's floor. It seems Judge didn't care and even thought that it was his. He said he was working on a sit-com with Claudia Black, Vala, and from his performance on stage, he may just be funny enough to pull it off. By the way, he said that Black was a very funny person and a pleasure to work with."
but how many awards Stargate won was not my point either. It's how much I, personally, enjoyed the show the last few years.
In my opinion, and my opnion only, the quality of writing had fallen in its last few years. Atlantis may be written by the same people, but it is a newer show and, thus, fresher.
Frankly, I had to force myself to watch the last season of Stargate. The Ori were a ridiculous addition to the show and Vala was quite annoying.
When Micheal Shanks had been killed off in season 6 I campaigned to get him back on the show, I felt there was a lot of stories left for Daniel and for SG1 and really wanted to see them. But time has passed and perhaps it is time for Stargate to end.
Ahah! That explains a lot right there. DQ was interested mainly in a sexual way. And turns out to be one of the Save Daniel Jackson Harem. When other female characters in the show get introduced and start getting Daniel's attention and playing up a little lively character relationship, then the ol' mother cat DQ gets a bit jealous filled with woman's scorn and rejects interest. :) hehe, it's ok, we've seen it all before. lol.
Does it affect your opinion that it was my husband that asked my to help campaign for Micheal Shanks?
Well, my point was that it doesn't matter what Scifi channel is or is not showing now, but that Stargate wasn't terribly good in its last year or two, something other fans must agree with since it's rating fell then.
Obviously you are not interested in a discussion, but rather to rant about your beliefs. Have fun.
In fact, that is what this WHOLE post that this author made, is all about. He is talking about what a shame it is that Sci Fi channel is putting on all this worthless junk, and cancelling good QUALITY well-written shows like STARGATE SG1, including ALL of their episodes and ALL of their seasons, and Farscape, and many others we all cared about. If you don't care, then why are you even in this thread trying to put down shows that my kids happen to enjoy, and all the rest of the world happens to think is quite excellent, and would take any day of the week over this other trash NBC and sci fi are pumping out. So YES it DOES matter what sci fi is showing now. It matters to me. It matters to the author of this thread. It matters to the people above from Stargate. It matters to my kids, it matters to millions and millions of other people who are seriously pissed at them for doing this. And that is the entire purpose of this article. So if you don't belong here, and you're not worth your salt as a fan, then just go elsewhere. Go on match.com or something. I think I hear someone calling for your name over there.
Meanwhile, the rest of us who are NOT apathetic and do care about things we believe in and are fans of good quality will continue to fight for some decent worthwhile entertainment.
You bring up this Ratings junk, like that proves if a show is well-written or not, you go right now and check how well-written AMERICAN IDOL IS, yeah, that's your ratings block-buster there DQ, so according to you, ratings mean that something is good. Suuure. Whatever you say. And while you're at it, Wrestling gets top ratings, so that must be just awesome on your writing scale. Pfft. You're so backward at this point in your convoluted thinking it's not even worth spending time on you until you figure it out. MacDonalds gets the most customers. Does that make it better QUALITY food than an elegant restaurant? According to you it would. That's your naive reasoning. And Britney & Michael Jackson & Rap must be the epitome of quality in music, way more than a Julliard graduate that knows 15 instruments, music theory, scales, pentatonics, harmony and composition, and composed a quintessential symphony, but isn't on the MTV top 40 charts. Yeah, according to the DQ scale, it must indicate that the Quality of writing of Black Eyed Peas going "My HUMP My Humps, I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff, What you gon do wit all dat breast, get you love drunk off my humps, my lovely lady lumps. Ha ha ha. So Real" must be award winning literary material to you since it gets and continues to get high ratings on the charts.
Well, you can take that, and your ratings, and your half-hearted excuse for being a fan of something, and your don't care about what they put on attitude and mosey on over to the "don't care much" whatevr's popular, group.
All of the rest of us do care what is shown, and do care what our kids watch, and what we watch, and finally portrays women in an intelligent and strong way, and portrays males with honor and valor, And we are proud of shows like that, and we are willing to stand behind them through good times and bad, and not turn into a wimp and badmouth them and runaway when someone Needs us the most.
