Stargate SG-1 #1 in viewership of all Sci Fi history
"STARGATE SG-1 Breaks All Previous SCI FI Viewership Records for a Series"
NEW YORK -- July 12, 2004 --
SCI FI Channel's hottest original series [STARGATE SG-1] just keeps blazing hotter.
Season 8 of Stargate SG-1 shot out of the gate with a 2.4 rating. The two-part season-opening event, "New Order," aired on Friday, July 9 (9-11PM et/pt) and captured 3,224,000 viewers P2+, making it the most-watched original episode of Stargate SG-1 in the series' history.
Led by Stargate SG-1's performance, SCI FI Channel was #1 for the night among P25-54 (8P-11P, 1,666,000 P25-54s) and #2 among P18-49s (1,411,000 P18-49s). "New Order" was the #2 program of the day on cable among P18-49s and P25-54s, and #4 among total viewers.
The show also drew more viewers P18-49 and P25-54 than any other episode of an original series in SCI FI Channel history: 1.73 P18-49 rating/1,732,000 P18-49 2.14 P25-54 rating/2,027,000 P25-54
SG-1's season 8 premiere has broken all of SCI FI Channel's previous viewership records for original series, becoming the:
- First episode of a SCI FI original series to deliver over 3,000,000 viewers (P2+)
- First episode of a SCI FI original series to deliver over 2,000,000 P25-54
- Highest-rated and most-watched episode of Stargate SG-1 on SCI FI
- Highest-rated and most-watched program on SCI FI in 2004
- Most-watched Stargate SG-1 episode in its entire eight-year cable run
- Most-watched episode of an original series in SCI FI history
"New Order" serves as a prelude to the series debut of this week's Stargate Atlantis, which premieres with a two-hour movie event on SCI FI, Friday, July 16 @ 9-11pm ET/PT.
