we are staying away from Wal-Mart and their lead painted produce.
Sure it's cheaper than the non-poisonous kind

Who can afford to even get to the grocery store with the price of gas these days?

Honestly I haven't gone grocery shopping for a while but that's about to change. Soon I'll have to start shopping for myself with my new roommate that I'm getting so I'm sure I'll be shocked to see just how much I can't afford on the allowance I"m going to have.

The high cost of food is effecting me too and I normally don't watch what I buy when grocery shopping. I'm especially keen on sales and discounts now days on food. I'm also shopping at Trader Joe a lot more now.

Trader Joe's has a lot of great food mostly organic in nature and at very low prices, if there is one around you check it out. I was impressed by the variety and low price.

Not really. I have always avoided convenience foods, and almost always cook dinner at home, so the cost of food is a necessary evil in my house.

I don't buy as much meat. When we want a meal with expensive kinds of meat or fish, we go to the buffet restaurant and eat there. Its actually cheaper for my husband and I than buying the ingredients and making the same foods at home. We eat dinner at work 3 days a week where we are volunteer cooks.

I agree, we are trying hard to grow some our own veggies... It is impacting us and making us try to be more frugal and to waste less..

I'm eating more Banquet TV dinners. They aren't as good as Stouffers and Marie Callendars, but frozen prepared meals are a lot cheaper and I end up being less wasteful and time consuming than when I try to cook for one.

I have cut way back on what I am buying. Normally we will go to the store and just get whatever but now I have to watch it otherwise I over spend. I have been trying to shop the sales more too.

My husband has added more to his vegetable garden this year. We stock up on sale items that are non perishable. For those who have no garden space you can always use containers to plant tomatoes, herbs, peppers, etc..

Quite honestly, I don't think food has gone up all that much. At least not in my area. I always buy organic though so I probably wouldn't notice a small increase in product like a quarter or so.

Marsha - I don't think that's the law. You can even receive a pay decrease as long as your employer informs you before you begin working at the new rate.

Yes! I'm all about sales! Fareway had some AMAZING deals this last week and I stocked our deep freeze and the freezer on the fridge.

I have always been a careful shopper but now I am even more careful.
Something (again that I have always done) is almost never to buy meat unless it is on sale. (or from Sam's Club because the prices are less)
Let's say chicken is on sale this week. I will buy two or three packages and put them in the freezer. Next week it might be pork or beef and I will do the same. That way when we eat meat we are eating it at a lessor price.

Back to Sam's Club. If you are a member, check out their long tubes of lean ground beef. I am sorry to say I don't remember the price but it is more than $1.50 less a pound that way than from the grocery store. I take a sharp knife, then cut 1lb, 2lb and single burger slices and freeze them flat.

We don't buy many packaged items, rather we try to buy fresh fruit and veggies.
I have been sorry to see the prices on organic produce rising lately, because that is puttiing some of it out of my reach.

I also grow tomatoes, cuks, all kinds of peppers and zuccini in huge pots on my patio.
I don't plant in the ground any more because I live in a neighborhood where people put chemicals on their lawns and I believe in more of an organic approach.

I rarely drive anymore and I miss getting out, but I refuse to support these high gas prices. Thankfully I swim very close to home.

every one will feel it some. I will buy what I have to have, using discounts and coupons when I can. While food is high, we might eat more beans and biscuits.
