"Would you say you, yourself, are better off financially than you were in 2001 when Bush became president, not as well off, or in about the same shape as then financially?"
This part of the question is optional. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being ultra conservative and 10 being ultra liberal where would you place yourself. Again this is optional as it is really not anyones business. I am about a 7.5 and that varies a point of so depending on the issue

As for the optional part. . . I guess I would have to say somewhere in the middle, so I guess that's a 5?
I'm about an 8.5.

Liberal --> Conservative scale. Maybe a 6.
On a scale of 1-10, I'm probably 7-8. I have a few "conservative" views, but the rest go the other direction. I'm more a mix of extremes than a middle of the road type. My current workplace, though, runs frighteningly conservative. It's the oil background here.
Liberals are centrists. Ultra-liberals are nowhere near the left end of the political spectrum. I'm not all the way to the end but I'm farther to the left from the average liberal than the average liberal is from Pat Robertson.
I think what separates me from the farthest left is that I don't support violent overthrow of the government yet. Things could change.
One thing I've drilled into my kids' minds: be flexible, have a lot of interests and hobbies and skills that can be turned into possible careers and businesses, be willing to change at the drop of the hat. Don't get set in your ways.
Scale, about 8.

As far as the liberal/conservative question, I have written my opinion below if you care to read it.
Besides watching the television and the reading the news media I also own a computer and the quality of some of the E-Mails that I receive is astounding. The pumped up fabrications, watered down truth and selected parts and pieces of news script that are arranged to completely misconstrue the intended meaning could be called lying and cheating, which I am sure that God is not proud of, but I am just as sure that Satin is avidly supporting. However I am not sure if the composers of these E-Mails feel the same way I do about all of the lying and cheating. Then I wonder if the forwarding computer operators know that they must be also held accountable.
In light of the above statements I have to blame the news-media for spreading the "NEO-CON" idea that politically speaking, right is right and left is wrong. I imagine that the "NEO-CONS" believe this because that is the way of the egotistical rich. Actually they believe that only they have the right to be wealthy. Factually, the reason has nothing at all to do with philosophy, only a choice of seats. In the early days of democracy in Europe the liberals set to the presiding officer's left in a deliberative assembly? Of course the conservatives set to the right. Doesn't that make you wonder what the ramifications might have been if the seating had been reversed. Therefore if a line is drawn in the sand and both political parties are lined up on their appropriate side then the distance from that line that members of either party moves, the more radical they become. With all of that in mind and observing the qualities below, where in the scheme of thing do you fit, remembering that those listed above are Conservative and those below are Liberal.

If you are true to yourself I believe that all of us, as Americans, would like believe that we possess most of these values in both lists, maybe some more than others and I suppose that is the real divide.
Back to that line in the sand to compare philosophy; Conservatism, a disposition in politics to preserve what has been established and a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions and preferring gradual development to abrupt changes, a preference to an existing situation instead of change.
Liberalism; a theory in economics that emphasizes individual freedom from restraint and is usually based on free competition, a self-regulating market and the gold standard, a political philosophy based on a belief in progress, the essential goodness of man and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties. Of course the great American success story is the ability of those that are elected to represent their constituency, to work on both side of that line.
Now let's put these philosophies together for the sake of history and I will repeat myself. As with the values I do believe that the philosophies of both the liberals and conservative that are listed above are philosophies that we all believe ourselves to have, maybe some more that other, and again that may well be the divide.
Though there are several fallacies in the determination of the line in the sand and it seems to me that the most troublesome is a news media that think that they know best and move people back and forth across that line to suit themselves. However that is not the troublesome part, but attempting to assign someone's patriotism or belief in God by that same news media's attempt at tagging everything, is.
In the past it was the philosophy that allowed people to choose their side. However, I believe that with the passing of time and the self-serving "NEOCON" influence, the philosophy in our government is now based on selfishness and greed, with our national pride being replaced with arrogance. Actually, I believe that it takes both sides to move forward with a diligence and forethought that is necessary to become the great nation that we are. Therefore it behooves us to remember this and realize that we must get along together to keep America strong. Besides there are so many more things that have the United States in trouble other than trying to define the difference between left and right, that it is stupid. But after all is said and done the news media's insistence on labeling everything is helping split the nation apart!
As far as the Good Lord, the Bible and religion are concerned I do not believe that there is a left or a right. When you accepted God as your savior you accept his holy word and if you believe, you believe, and God will show you the way. Of course I realize that believing in God dose not prevent you from being a responsibility citizen, but there is a proper place to campaign and a proper to praise God and the two should not be the same. The doors of the church should be open to everybody regardless of their political affiliations without fear of persecution. I firmly believe that when politics are dragged into the church then you will have the problems that we are having today, the efforts to remove God's presents from the face of our country.
I believe that we must trust God to save our souls and we should get on with living the good life in accordance with his teaching. Attempting to legislate God's teaching is a waste of time. But maybe it is possible to give everybody with unacceptable thoughts a lobotomy, or maybe brainwashing. But I believe that to be accepted into the promised land of the everlasting must be of our own choosing, that is what our time here on earth is all about, God put us here for us to make the choice, not to build kingdoms.
Then I wonder if there is such a thing as the "MORAL MAJORITY" which I hear so often these days? Of course there is! But when I hear someone use these words in such a way as to imply that the one that is using them is speaking for the majority of the morally sound people in American, I know that they are being as misleading as when they use the phrase "MOST AMERICAS". Morality has so many dos and don'ts, even into your most secret and hidden thoughts and it is a personal thing that is between God and yourself and the Devil, and no one else will ever know unless you tell them.
OH YEAH! The Devil is setting right there beside God and he is betting on you making a mistake. However, just because you make a mistake doesn't mean that God won't forgive you. But you can certainly double you sins by thinking that you are a part of the "MORAL MAJORITY" and don't have to answer for the things that you have done, in the same way that the ones you proclaim to be morally unsound do. Certainly not the same things! But equal things! Now you had better stop and think about that. Think about what is in your thoughts while a big argument over abortions or gay rights is raging, is it hatred, malicious thoughts or angry words. If it is you can be sure that the Devil has slipped into your heart and mind and will betray your soul. Therefore, when you are fighting for God's commandments, that dose not mean that you are allowed to act in an ungodly way without being in league with the Devil. For instance, would you attempt to take God's work of judging people away from him and do it your self? Remember Satin shows up in all kind of places, even in the image of a preacher. There is no rule against the Devil climbing up in the pulpit and blaspheming all over the place. So don't let a preacher get between you and your God. Listen to what the preacher says and you can tell the difference, because God will show you the way.
the scale makes it hard to place people like me...I'm more a small "l"libertarian, small "r" republican...
good to hear ty war does help some
:-P
I am probably a 5 on the scale. It also depends on the issues, too. Like for gay issues, I am 100% liberal (that means I support them). For illegal immigration issues, I am 100% conservative (that means I think the illegal immigrants should be kicked out of the country immediately).
