The Scales of Justice: The People vs Paris Hilton and I. Lewis Libby

What kind of person does not have to go to jail when everyone knows they are guilty? Even Paris Hilton went to jail. Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca attempted to commute her sentence to house arrest, but after the public found out, she was back in jail faster than you could say Senator, I do not recall.

Paris Hilton violated her probation and everyone was up in arms over the idea of her getting out of jail. I. Lewis Scooter Libby obstructed an investigation into a treasonous act and will not spend a nanosecond behind bars thanks to the president, yet there is no rumbling reaction. The president even acknowledges the fact that Libby is guilty and we are just soooooo ready to accept that he will not even see a jail cell.

Now I know that the average American understands this irony that I have presented without me having to point it out, but I think that most would attribute it to being one of those American paradoxes that will never change. I, however, believe that there is something else beneath it all, namely media coverage.

It was almost as if Anna Nicole stopped being dead or something and the buzz around the block was that Paris Hilton was going to jail. If another Darfur was going on, news of it was just going to have to wait patiently if it wanted to get to the Amercian people through the Mainstream Media.

She was going to jail! Wow jail! How will she handle it? Will they give her special treatment? Will she fit in? Will she become someones b-word (five letters, sounds like itch)? Investigative journalism at its most exemplary.

Then suddenly she was not going to be in jail after all! The crap really hit the fan with the people in uproar (me especially) and the language was consistent in the Mainstream Media.

She's getting out of jail!
She's getting special treatment.

The reporters grew spines and were asking the tough questions of Sheriff Lee Baca, the man who overstepped his bounds by changing the conditions of which Paris would serve out her sentence. Mainstream media journalists can get really tough when dealing with offices at the county level.

The judge stepped in to oppose the change, and the Mainstream Media got their summer fill of Justice. Their spines retracted just in time for the President to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby, but not without acknowledging the guilt of Libby in the matter. The mainstream media surefire maintained its highly evolved craft of stenography keeping the language of the co-conspirators the official language of discussion; language that does not contain the words: treason, treasonous, treasonable offense, cover-up, co-conspirator, etc.

He who controls the language controls the discussion. That is why our government can torture people and still say that they do not torture people. We waterboarded and beat them and assaulted their psyches but in the end none of their organs failed therefore its not torture. I did not see any organ failure. Did you see any organ failure? How can it be torture then? Duh-uuuuh! Perhaps they should try Chinese Water Interrogation. In the film Braveheart, Mel Gibson's character was not actually tortured until they cut open his stomach and reached inside of him to play with his gutty-wuts because according to Attorney Generallissimo Alberto Gonzales for there to be torture there:

must be equivalent in intensity to the pain accompanying serious physical injury, such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, or even death.

Once the person dies then we can conclude that he was tortured. In passing, those hippies at the American Psychological Association beg to differ.

You see it is not torture anymore if it is interrogation. It is not obstruction of justice if it is executive privledge. You do not have to plead the fifth if you just have the recollection capacity of a two-year old. Saying that you do not know when you actually do know is not perjury anymore. I do not recall: it is the new pleading the fifth because looking stupid is better than looking guilty. Is that not right Mr. President?

To be fair, in defense of Scooter Libby, I must add that the lies he is convicted of telling did not include lying about recieving a blowjob. If I learned anything from the TV, it is that that kind of lie is the worstest kind a politician can tell. Yes, the absolute worstest.
