Keith Olbermann.

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann:
 Our New
American Hero!

Keith Olberman is on a roll. This time he has a special comment for the president himself. Thank you Mr.Olberman for saying what the American majority believes! BRAVO!

MSNBC, Countdown.
This a re-print of a great post from the AlterNet.org, on September 11, 2006.

Olbermann: "How dare you, Mr. President"

Link to watch the video:
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/41501/

Olbermann rips Bush on 9/11:

"Who has left this hole in the ground? We have not forgotten, Mr. President. You have."

On the five-year anniversary of 9/11, Keith Olbermann gives another Murrow-esque soliloquy...

September 11, 2006.

Some highlights:

Five years later there is no memorial to the dead.

Five years later there is no building rising to show with proud defiance that we would not have our America wrung from us, by cowards and criminals.

Five years later this country's wound is still open.

Five years later this country's mass grave is still unmarked.

Five years later this is still just a background for a photo-op.

It is beyond shameful....

Five years later, Mr. Bush, we are still fighting the terrorists on these streets.

And look carefully, sir, on these 16 empty acres.

The terrorists are clearly, still winning.

And, in a crime against every victim here and every patriotic sentiment you mouthed but did not enact,

you have done nothing about it.

History
teaches us that nearly unanimous support of a government cannot be taken away from that government by its critics. It can only be squandered by those who use it not to heal a nation's wounds, but to take political advantage....
Terrorists did not come and steal our newly-regained sense of being American first, and political, fiftieth.

 Nor did the Democrats.

 Nor did the media.

 Nor did the people.

The President -- and those around him -- did that.

They promised bi-partisanship, and then showed that to them, "bi-partisanship" meant that their party would rule and the rest would have to follow,
or be branded, with ever-escalating hysteria, as morally or intellectually confused, as appeasers, as those who, in the Vice President's words yesterday, "validate the strategy of the terrorists."

They promised protection, and then showed that to them "protection" meant going to war against a despot whose hand they had once shaken, a despot who we now learn from our own Senate Intelligence Committee, hated al-Qaida as much as we did.

The
polite phrase for how so many of us were duped into supporting a war, on the false premise that it had 'something to do' with 9/11 is "lying by implication."

The impolite phrase is "impeachable offense."...

How dare you, Mr. President, after taking cynical advantage of the unanimity and love, and transmuting it into fraudulent war and needless death, after monstrously transforming it into fear and suspicion and turning that fear into the campaign slogan of three elections?

How dare you -- or those around you -- ever "spin" 9/11?

Just as the terrorists have succeeded -- are still succeeding -- as long as there is no memorial and no construction here at Ground Zero.

So, too, have they succeeded, and are still succeeding as long as this government uses 9/11 as a wedge to pit Americans against Americans.
When those who dissent are told time and time again -- as we will be, if not tonight by the President, then tomorrow by his portable public chorus -- that he is preserving our freedom, but that if we use any of it, we are some un-Americans.

When we are scolded, that if we merely question, we have "forgotten the lessons of 9/11"... look into this empty space behind me and the bi-partisanship upon which this administration also did not build, and tell me:
Who has left this hole in the ground?

We have not forgotten, Mr. President. You have.

MAY THIS COUNTRY FORGIVE YOU!

.....................................................................................................

Mr. Keith Olbermann needs our support to continue to tell the truth in an MSM world which is so hopelessly and totally corrupted !

I read a lot of accusation and ridicule. Yet there is no reccomended solution. If you complain without offering a solution, then you are part of the problem. I have yet to hear one Dem step up with a solution. Just hearing a lot of complaining.

This was, yet another grand slam commentary by Mr O.

Btw, those of you who are obsessed with the mythical fantasy that Democrats have no alternative solutions have been drinking far too much rightwing Kool Aid. Democrats do not hold a position of power in Washington, and therefore have no bully pulpit from which to espouse their views, and they do not control the mainstream media. They have no voice, other than amongst themselves. If you TRULY wish to see whether or not democrats have anything besides criticisms, you should spend some time visiting democratic websites. You might find yourself quite surprised.

Keith is a true "America-hater. " Heshould be fortunate to live in this country and under a government that protects free speech. I think his hate-speech divides America more than an administration that is doing what it thinks is right to protect the country.

"like most liberals are doing just what the terreroist want."

It's funny you say this, because global terror attacks have risen exponentially since 9/11, and democrats haven't been in charge.

Additionally, Mr. Bush has given al Qaeda pretty much everything that they've wanted:

1) US troops out of Mecca
2) No investigation into 9/11 money trail from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan
3) Ports and borders left wide open
4) Port security sold off to leading funder nation of 9/11 (ALMOST got that one)
5) Get rid of Saddam, so that fundamentalist Islam can arise in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq
6) Leave high explosives weapons caches in Iraq open to looters
7) Leave radioactive waste sites in Iraq open to looters
8) Let the anthrax killer escape
9) Let Bin Laden escape
10) Dismantle US Constitution
11) Destroy US national treasury

We are indeed losing the war against terrorism. Indeed so many attacks have occurred on US soil since 9/11. Furthermore, Bin Laden's state sponsors the Taliban are still calling the shots in Afghanistan's government. We are killing absolutely no terrorists in Iraq (just women and children with IEDs and AK-47s).

Indeed Bush has done away with freedom of speech. The fact that we all are forced to agree with him is proof to that point. No one (especially film makers like Michael Moore) could possibly say anything negative against this despot. It is truly amazing that you, Keith, are allowed to have a televisions of literally hundreds of millions of Americans. I guess Dick Cheney doesn't have cable or you would be thrown in a gulag.

And the federal government has not rebuilt the Towers. Yea, they rebuilt the Pentagon, and sure Pennsylvania has a memorial in that sacred field. In fact, I agree the federal government should sieze the land owned New York City's port authority to comply with the wishes of former Sports Center announcer Keith Olbermann. He may not can disect a blitz package, but he knows all about the greatest issue facing America today: making a big offce building. All hail to you Keith Olbermann.

Furthermore the terrorists are winning because we haven't built a monument; just like the Japanese were winning WWII until 1961 when the Pearl Harbor Monument was constructed. If we can't build an office building, how can we possibly beat terrorists, nay, be proud to be Americans. Killing terrorists -- afterall is the job of Mr. Liebskind and New York's finest interior designers -- not our forces in Iraq combatting those who are bombing schoolbusses and Mosques. Thank you Mr. Olbermann.

You're right. Only Bush would use the site of 9/11 for a photo op. Hillary or Chuck Shumer would never, ever appear before it to give a political speech. Nay, not every Senator elected would visit thee to tell their constituents that they care. Only Bush (lead by the anit-Christ Karl Rove and the Whore of Babylon Laura) would dare give a speech from this sacred site.

Thank you Olberman for having the courage to pander to your target demographic.

Drew

PS -- I very much hope that Bush is impeached so Cheney can be president. He is a true leader and a man of vision.

The mindless "dittoes" of the Republican spin machine illustrate a culprit of equal culpability with this truly corrupt and criminal, self appointed, administration. Those 'loyal Americans' who have their heads so far up Bush/Cheny/Rove's collective ass that they have adapted out their ability to smell bullshit turn my stomach and make me believe that, at least in part, this country deserves to have been royally screwed by this pack of thieves who have dismantalled every part of it that they could get their hands on. Unfortunately, the rest of us don't deserve it and we will ALL go down with this leaking ship.

The destruction of our freedoms, economy, peace, environment are blatantly apparent to anyone who can see. Those who can look around them at every deterioration in every aspect of life that has been cynically wrought by this pack and not understand are intellectually and morally hopeless. They are not educable and I, personally, can no longer try.

Dream on, sheep, (Jerry, 'way,' Brutus) dream on. Unfortunately, your dream is the world's nightmare. Will you ever wake up?

Of course Bush and Cheney are traitors, quite literally. There are some freedoms that they have not yet been able to squelch totally. If it were immediately profitable to do so, you can bet that they would get to it soon. But I'm glad we still have some modicum of free expression even though it allows the truly twisted illogic of the Drews of the world to explain away the disastrous condition of this country, or to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist.

Six or seven times on this site, I have listed the economic and environmental crimes and blunders of this administration and not once has anyone addressed those issues. Only drooling dittoehead babble about our democracy and the need to kill a random selection of others (apparently because that is the way to safeguard our freedoms). Of course it would be difficult to explain away the exploitation and the loss of trillions of dollars in the economy while every service to the people has been cut. And no, denizens of fairyland, that is not due to the "war." It is in addition to the war. Somebody's getting richer (or is it richarder). Are you poor suckers who twist and turn to try to believe in these thugs? I'm not. And if you are a recipient of the windfall profiteering that is going on, is it enough to pay for your gas or to move away from the coastline which will disappear in the relatively near future?

But then, you don't believe in science so it isn't going to happen to you. Hell, Bush doesn't believe in science, or even remotely understand it, so nothing bad will happen to him. His flat, unevolved, world won't have global warming. How could it, God told him it won't. Impeach, hell, imprison for crimes against humanity.

Howard, trust me, I believe global warming is a problem (a small one, but still a problem). I dare ask you though, in the history of the United States, which president oversaw the largest increase in the pace of carbon emissions? Here is a hint, it starts with a C and ends with an inton. Who stopped the phased out Methyl Bromide nerve gas, an ozone depleter? Who refused to sign the 5 million dollar Spotted Owl Recovery Plan? Who deregulated public grazing on public lands? Who dropped the propsed federal gas tax or for that mater suported the four cent gas tax repeal? Who dropped the Carbon Tax for US inustry? Here's a hint, Monica would say his name "Cwintin" while sucking his cock.

Bush (like all the politicians of the past 100 years) has been miserable for the environment. I think he has done a miserable job with stewardship of the earth; but to act like he is especially culpable is not true. Again, under whose administration did carbon increase by the greatest pace. Don't blame the destruction of the earth's environment on Bush. That is simplistic and a sign of ideological dedication leading to intellectual laziness. Please, quit drinking the purple kool-aide.

Drew

Andrew;

Global Warming a small one? Ever heard of Polar Bears eating Polar Bears before? Did ya notice the extream heat & forestfires this year. 2nd warmest summer in History? Wait for the yearly updates, as last year was the warmest in history.

What would it take. Bush making all the Govt. Vehicles switch to Propane? Wow good start!

How about "You will not build a new Gas Station in the USA unless you provide alternative fuels"? Better start!

How about "You will not sell vehicles in the USA unless 10% of them use alternative fuels to gasoline?" Wow excellent start!

Bush can spend 80 Billion dollars this year in Iraq promoting Global Destruction, but cant fix New Orleans (oh no not something else that might have something to do with Global Warming) & he cannot pass such Legislation? Even present a Bill on it to Congress?

I guess stopping Gay Marriage is more important! Well, I for one think he could lift a finger on this issue if he wanted to do "Anything Smart" during his entire Presidency.

It is truly amazing how Olbermann plays on the ignorance of people and is applauded as an AMERICAN HERO in blaming Bush for a HOLE over which Bush has ZERO control or influence.

Is ignorance really bliss and does Anti-Bush talk really make one a hero? The answer here is a resounding YES!

It could happen, but W needs tio get all their priorities straight. freedon is never free, but they have to put forth a greater effort for America. To anyone who does not already, I encourage you to watch the global news on BBC America. This means the BBC gives you credit for being able to think for yourself and draw your own conclusions. What a novel idea.

Thanks Amanda,
for reminding us that Liberal is a great word and a great humanitarian cause.

Dictionary definition of Liberal:

Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

Conservative:

Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.

I'm with you Amanda: open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

It's funny to us Canadians Fred. When someone in Canada says the sky is blue, never do you hear "Thats nothing but Left Wing or Right Wing Propaganda"!

Nope they just look up & say "Yep the Sky is Blue"! There are a lot of people in Canada that don't believe we should have a presence in the Middle East & it is the cause of Terrorism. There are a lot of people in Canada that can clearly see the effects of Global Warming & are mad as hell that we are going against "International Law" by dumping Kyoto.

Yet it has nothing to do with them being Liberal or Conservative. I voted for my Prime Ministers party & so that would make me Conservative. That does not equate in my mind to "stupid", any more than it does for the Liberals who can also see the "Forest for the Trees" on both these issues.

The threat of being arrested is always present.

Dear Jack L,

Remember that, it took Hitler about 6 years before he started arresting and killing many millions of people. W is building up his powers, and he is in the planning stages now!

More good news, Cheney said last week that he needs to be able to control the Internet and all the emails in US!

I said :
W has the power to call you, yes you Jack L, an enemy of the state and arrest you. By US law, he can arrest anyone, hold them, and torture them indefinitely !

W will be going after the real big ones first.

Sorry, you are not that important to W!

You have to watch this movie called :

America: From Freedom to Fascism.

It comes out beginning of October 06.

Jack,

An example: Cindy Sheehan, her Sister Deedee Sheehan and many of Cindy's supporters who are war veterans have been jailed and had to pay fines. Cindy was arrested and Jailed for wearing a T-shirt that said "2000 Dead". MSM News media is corrupted and will not report many other cases of such abuses anyway!

Jack,
the most important idea to concentrate on is the fact that this country will soon slip into a dictatorship because w is acting outside of the law. And lawlessness is the starting point of a dictatorship. There is a law for W to arrest people arbitrarily, it does exist, that's all you need to know.

I have read recently, in different articles(I did not save the articles) that there are about 1,400 detainees being tortured in secret prisons all over the world, and those people don't have any rights at all! And you Jack can't find out why they have been arrested and tortured. W arbitrarily decides what is the law!

Jack,

An article about people arrested and detained arbitrarily without a trial, indefinitely!

Bob Herbert | Due Process, Bulldozed

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/092506L.shtml
Bob Herbert writes, "Bilal Hussein was part of a team of Associated Press photographers who had won a Pulitzer Prize for photos documenting the fighting and carnage in Iraq.

Now he's a prisoner, having been seized by the US government.
You might ask: What's he been charged with? The answer: Nothing."

Hey, Mr. Jack.

Don't want to appear leaning only to one side, but it seems to me, Mr. Jack, that your argument was effectively defeated and still you can not concede.

I would understand what you are arguing if there indeed had not been even one person jailed--for whatever length of time--as was Cindy Sheehan. But you asked for a case and it was provided. Instead of you opening your mind and admitting that indeed there is something, however minute at this point, to look at with great care you opted to minimize the fact that she was refused her right to express herself.

And the worse thing is that she apparently was not even interrupting anyone, but just was wearing a T-shirt that stated something that the Capitol police "interpreted" for some reason as a protest. Is this not worthy of careful consideration? Should we call any incidents like these trivial simply because they seem to be the work of "liberals" or ignorant people who just like to hate Bush?

Seriously. Who in the world likes to hate anyone? The majority of Americans, as polls show, seem to be turning against Bush not because of the liberal Bush-haters out there speaking their ignorant hearts out, but because Bush has failed miserably in almost everything he set out to "accomplish". Like: War on Terror, War in Iraq, Capturing Bin-Laden, Securing ALL our borders, rebuilding after Katrina, rebuilding after 9/11, and the most important of all, uniting Americans - not pitting us one against the other over who's an unpatriotic, ignorant, Islamist extremist appeaser and who really does love America and is patriotic and knows that Bush knows what is the "TRUTH" better than anyone else could hope to know it.

Again, sorry, but in a world where fanaticism and blind pride did not exist; a world where reason and observable facts prevailed over passions you would have conceded that at least in the aspect of free speech your question was answered and your argument undone.

We do not have the luxury to stop being "morons" as you called at least one person on this forum, by asking questions and seeking accountability from our government. If we wait until someone from this forum has been jailed because of their statements here, then we will have waited far too long and can be accused of truly being unpatriotic and moronic for hoping that our government is being run by men who do as the angels would do instead of knowing that it is run by men who are as capable of doing as any other man has done through history, whether it is for good or for evil. It is for this reason that more than one branch of government exists in our federation. Let's use them all even if they call us all MORONS!

CODEPINK Give Peace A Vote Sep 29, 2006, 7:50pm EDT
Yeah-Crazy times. Today was a really dark day in this country, and I think one of the most healing and unifying things has been to express myself and what I'm working on through the internet.

Currently, CODEPINK is spreading an online petition called Give Peace A Vote (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/codepink/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=295&t=GPV.dwt) that voters "will not vote for or support any candidate for Congress or President who does not make a speedy end to the war in Iraq, and preventing any future war of aggression, a public position in his or her campaign.*"

I ask to those who read this entry to fill out this online petition. Let's show the US government that we support a peaceful solution.

All the comments are great!

But Drew, dude, you should be on comedy central. (If they let you out at night.) Your post is hilarious. At first, I thought, oh wow, this guy is a Bush supporter; but then I thought, oh hell no. How could he be? I mean, no way. So then I realized, ahhhh -- it's parody, or some type of weird satire. Either way, I laughed so hard I cryed. And the last line about Cheney!!! Man, that was priceless! A VP with an approval rating of 15 % (well, almost, we'll round up) Charles Manson, Hitler, Mussolini, and Dan Quayle were higher than that!

Thanks for the good laugh, after watching news for the past 48 hr. it was nice to see someone who could really mix it up. (You do have TV?) Well, no matter, as long as you keep writing these comic bits, you'll go far!

I sent an email supporting Olbermann. In my mind, it doesn't even matter whether you agree with what he says (although I do), the important thing is that Olbermann is the only person in the media who isn't towing the party line. He isn't using the terms that the Republicans use, he isn't focusing on the same drivel that the mass media focuses on, and he is talking about things that are being overlooked by everyone else. Love him or not, he is offering the only real counter argument, thus instigating the only real debate about real issues.
Even the democrats don't do this. They use the"terrorists", "the war on terror", "death tax" whatever the issue, they use the Republican framing. If they use the republican framing, they have already lost the argument! Why don't these brilliant people see that?
So Olbermann should be lauded, whether you are Republican or Democrat, for having a reflective mind and trying his best to show something different than what everyone else is doing. Republicans, if you can argue against his points with real evidence and cold, hard facts, rather than vitriol, then your arguments have gained some integrity and people will listen to and remember your facts rather than your loud, obnoxious voices.

Dear Angie,

Please just read Clay's posts again.
He is a very knowledgeable and eloquent man.
He makes complete sense.

Notice that W has accomplished only 2 projects since he started:

!- Wars to enrich the 1% richest people in US, and,

2- Tax cuts for the 1% richest people in US!

So, if you are not in that 1% gainers group, then you dear Annie are definitely in the 99% losers group.

If I assume correctly, and you are in the 99% losers group, then you may want to ask yourself:

Why is Angie supporting and helping a man who is betraying her so very obviously and so very consistently everyday?

Could it be possible that you are so very angry, because W and co. have totally betrayed you and your nation to get more power and more money only!

Thanks for commenting.

Angie, its time this country gets a grip and realizes we're spreading terrorism and alienating the world. Please don't presume I ever backed the war on 'weapons of mass destruction'; a pure con to topple Sadam's reign. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with 9/11.... If you'd think for a moment, it was the Afgani based Taliban whose SAUDI nationalists carried out the attack. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, where does Iraq fit into the picture????? Dear mike e,

Everything W does is only and only to promote this one ambition:

To steal almost all the money and almost all the power from the 99% of the people for the benefit of the richest 1%!

Knowing that fact, all the reasons and justifications that you argue about are really totally irrelevant; because they are based on a bogus assumption that W is out to help you and help all of us Americans!

Sorry for the bad news, but you have been completely overwhelmed by a master con man.

Unfortunately, you mike are inadvertently supporting the very man who is so obviously dedicated to rob you blind every single day of your life.

Please, don't let W deceive you any more with his con artist distracting war games!
Your most important, and your most vicious enemy is right here in this country.

Your universe is trying to shake you and wake you up from your terrible nightmare. Please wake up before it's too, too late to face up to this horrible reality:

The man you obey, love, and support with all your might is in reality betraying you, and he is actually your very worst enemy!

Excellent posting, Fred my man! Olbermann is a hero if for nothing else exercising the freedom of speech which the media moguls imagine to mean speaking for free, which the rest of us are allowed to do just not on their airwaves.

Clay, excellent points my man and good use of humour to drive them home (Scientology, always good for a laugh.)

Mike E.: Iraq did not have a "ceasefire" agreement to live up to, nor to violate. The resolutions they had against them had to do with weapons inspections and WMDs. However, they did allow inspections which resulted in no WMDs being found, as confirmed by Hans Blix and that American UN inspector and, later, by the US Army who also found no WMDs. So there was no violation, and thus no rational for an invasion either. Are you advocating that America go around invading every country with a murderous dictator at the helm. Sure, it sounds like a good moral plan, but can you do it. Even the most powerful country in the world seems stretched to the limit with two invasions/occupations. Clay did not mean that the US had been invaded, but that he never asked for his President to go invading uninvolved nations as a response to 9/11. Everyone who denies the oil motivation for the war seems to want to point out that it hasn't lowered the price at the pump. Of course, that is not their goal. They want to raise the profits of the companies, not lower the cost for the average American.

BTW: can someone tell me what is with all the Kool-Aid references? Kool-Aid is merely a sugary drink. Why is listening to someone's position called "drinking their Kool-Aid"? The only reference I can think of the The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, but that makes no sense at all.

For the record, I very much like most of what Clay has to say. (for what I have read so far) And even though I am far from agreeing with him on this issue...I am hardly narrow minded enough to throw the baby out with the bathwater (even though I am but a 4 year old with my CRAYON *wink*)
I don't drink Kool-Aid from anyone...I have my own mind. Don't assume anything for me Fred, thanks just the same.
"The man you obey, love, and support with all your might is in reality betraying you, and he is actually your very worst enemy!"~~I didn't marry George Bush...so I will not obey and love him for any reason. You belittle me by assuming that I have not drawn my own conclusions and leaving the impression that I am incapable of doing do.
Support is another issue. I will support him as I would you...because you are an American. I certainly don't agree with your beliefs.Still, because of the simple fact that you reside in this great land, you have the right to your opinion.
He leads our country and most of us agreed to put him there or he wouldn't be doing the job. Therefore, I will support him or when brought to the point that I feel I can't do that any longer (with him or ANY president) will fight for immediate change.
"Oh for God's sake, Mike, do you honestly believe the Average American Citizen would have supported a war with Iraq over U.N. Treaty violations?? "
Where is the line Clay....When DO you go to war? Do you speak for the "average American citizen"? I find myself to be one of those...and if you believe that Bush should be impeached for not following the rules..why would you not hold others that agreed to those same types of rules to the same type of standard?

Dear Angie sorry, I didn't mean to belittle you at all.

Your arguments for supporting W are based on 2 false assumptions, therefore your conclusion to support W are wrong, since they are based on falsehoods.

The 2 correct assumptions are:

1- W does not lead our country at all, but in fact, it's the 1% richest class that in reality leads and runs our country, and W is merely executing their orders.

2- W stole the presidency, twice. He was not elected by the majority.

I think that you are supporting a Master con man , and not a legitimate president!

We hold this to be self evident that our government is now of, by, and for the richest 1% only, period.

Speak only factually please Fred...you are blowing smoke and listening to whispers. If Bush wasn't legally supposed to be in office he wouldn't be. Believe me, everyone fought very hard to prove that he shouldn't legally be and if it were up to some of them we would still be evaluating hanging chads....no proof of error..Bush wins.
"We hold this to be self evident that our government is now of, by, and for the richest 1% only, period. " Don't misquote and attempt to speak for the people...that 1% issue is yours alone.
