John McCain Can't Figure Out Who He Supports

September 16, 2008 09:37 AM EDT

While watching Good Morning America I saw Matt Lauer (sp?) interview John McCain.

If you look at McCains website and listen to his words and view his Senate voting record it just doesnt add up.

McCain claims to be a Maverick yet votes along party lines and with Bush 91% of the time.  So who is he reforming?

John McCain claims to want to fight Big Business yet didnt sign legislation that would require CEO's of companies that file bankruptsy to be included in that action.  What this means is that a company, lets use AIG as an example, is in debt.  The CEO gets a $110 million dollar bonus in addition to his regular $20 million dollar a year paycheck but that gross expendenture isnt included in the bankruptsy.  So people lose jobs and they may not get their paychecks but the head honcho who is responsible for overseeing the business gets a bonus for bad performance and doesnt have to answer to anyone why his the business he ran is in the toilet but yet wants the taxpayers to bail his company out.

McCain wants to deregulate business.  But claims that the people are the one's he is fighting for.  He favors instead the government watchdog organizations.  And we know how effective that has been in the past.  But on the plus side that should create more openings for special interest lobbyist.

So that is where Matt went? I wondered why he wasn't on the Today show anymore. It seems like AL Roker and Anne are the only original Pundits left there.

They had McCain and Dem Veepee Nom. Biden on the Today show, btw, that's why I said that.

McCain scares me, no his supporters scare me, McCain blatantly flip flops and has a double-think mentality, and people still want to vote for him, what the heck?

So what's the difference? Obama flips as much if not more than McCain does, he has no idea where he is going with his vague ideas, and neither one will benefit this country.
People keep fighting about who is better, when in fact neither one is much better, and both are jokes that will do more damage than good.
The only one that has any executive experience is Palin, and she is being so slaundered by the left, that she looks like some sort of monster, but the fact is she is the only good politician that is running from either the Democrats of the Republicans, and will not have any real power.
So I'll still stay with Barr, who is the only one that has any real idea what the hell needs done.

I read a CNN article, that said if we were able to elect our Pres. and VeePee Individually, with all the hype surrounding the candidates, that it would be an Obama-Palin Ticket that would win. and McCain and Biden are simply along for the ride.

Lori F., Sep 16, 2008, 10:09am EDT

She is a tremendous politician but that's like saying the Great White is a termendous man-eating fish. I can't stand her and I think that McCain and the GOP are using her as nothing more than a stripper. They have her dancing her in front of the press and the numbed-up public and no-one gives a squat what she actually says. The more I learn about her, the more I dislike her. I used to respect John McCain (still didn't want him to be President but still) but not anymore. His handlers have clearly led him down the low road and I believe (in spite of what the polls are saying and what the right-wing field marshalls here on Gather are saying) that it is going to prove costly in November.

"You say you want a revolution"? Well, it looks like we got one.

Let me add this: I look at Palin the same way I look at K. Rove. Karl Rove is a political genius and strategist. Love him or hate him, you can't take that away from him. But genius or not, he's a low-life piece of sh*t.

I do not believe McCain is running his own campaign, I think Rove, Cheney and the whole neocon gang has McCain locked up tight and half the time McCain does not have any idea what his next speech will be about until he reads the prompter.

The neocons are hoping to get McCain elected because they know what poor health he is in and it will be easy to make a stepford president out of Palin.

McCain and Bush are two of the people responsible for our present economic problems. Deregulation was rampant over the last eight years. They looked out for the corporations and executives but not the employees and customers. They wanted to privatize everything, just like Reagan, but then we have to bale them out when they are greedy and make poor business decisions. Disgusting!

Paul R., Sep 16, 2008, 10:19am EDT

No you don't. You are just willing to say or do anything to get Obama elected. Even if it means smashing someone else.

Palin's spokeswoman, Sharon Leighow, said the expenses are not unusual, noting that each of Palin's five children could have claimed a per diem expense and that Palin often did not seek out reimbursement for meals.

Palin has spent far less on travel than her predecessor, former Gov. Frank Murkowski, who spent $463,000 on travel in 2006. Palin spent $93,000 last year, records show.

First you people are griping because she has five kids and isn't home with them and then when she takes them with her you're griping about that, too!

I agree with you both Carla and Jack. I work in insurance and there was a time years ago when AIG had "more money than God" and where the most powerful insurer in the world. Period. Now they are tettering on bankruptcy. Why? Deregulation. If AIG goes down, there will be a slew of insurers on their heels. I don't know if people are really aware of how dangerously close we are to hitting a major depression here.

Thank the idiot in there now folks. And if you believe that McCain is going to fix this mess with more of the same bull-crap stuff, well, God help us all.

"It is essential for us to make sure that the U.S. remains the pre-eminent financial market of the world. This will be a highest priority of my administration. In order to do this, major reform must be made in Washington and on Wall Street," McCain said in his statement.

He added: "The McCain-Palin administration will replace the outdated and ineffective patchwork quilt of regulatory oversight in Washington and bring transparency and accountability to Wall Street. We will rebuild confidence in our markets and restore our leadership in the financial world."

Palin has the most executive experience???? What???? Are you kidding me? The woman has a degree from the University of Idaho in Journailsm was a news anchor before becoming a mayor of town smaller than even the one I live in, and has only been a govenor for a year. Hell McSame has more experience but that hasn't helped him any. The man just doesn't have a clue. I agree on the comment on his supporters. People will believe whatever they want to believe. I guess their comeback will be the same about supporters of Obama. I guess only time will tell mostly when that time comes in November.

Yes McCain broke it by voting with Bush 91% of the time and the republican greed, and put us in this economic mess by giving tax breaks to the wealthy and deregulating big corporations.

I think it's sad that the repubs say Obama wants to raise Taxes, he doesn't. he wants to end the Bush Tax cuts for the Wealthy. That is NOT raising anything, merely evening the playing field and returning it to where it should be.

First of all, I don't think I have bashed Obama bearly as much as the libs on here have bashed Gov. Palin.

I admire both McCain and Palin very much. Not to say that much about Obama isn't admirable. I like McCain because he is a Republican and I feel that Republicans are closer to my beliefs than Democrats. I don't like liberals. Obama is the most liberal senator in the senate.

I feel that McCain's time as a POW has shown that he is a man of principal, as much as one can be and still be a politician. lol I think he loves America and will do what's best for the country. I think that he is more bipartisan than Obama and will work with both sides to accomplish things. I believe that he will more likely work for change than Obama will.

I also believe along the same lines as McCain/Palin on abortion. I will side with the baby unless it would cause the death of the mother. But I have seen too many people having abortions for the heck of it. I know one who used it to determine the sex of her next child. She aborted all baby girls and kept getting pregnant until she got a boy.

I have to strongly disagree with you on this. The venom against Palin is much worse than anything Obama has had to deal with. Not just on Gather but in the news media. I think the goverment should keep it's nose out of the Abortion issue all together to be honest.

Yet, Medical Orginazations should have best policies, Procedures and Health managment plans enacted. for Health, Safety, and Sanitary Reasons etc.

and it should be based on indivudual taste.

between the Medical Practice, the Doctor and the Mother.

to determine if they would offer abortion procedures/ wish to get one or not

and that big government should keep it's nose out of it, stick with criminal and procedural legislation and stop trying to legislate morality.

All I know is that I'm better off now than I was eight years ago. I just got an 8% raise from my job. And I don't think that I am doing anything special so I don't know why anyone can't do something to better themselves whether it be a better job or returning to school. If there aren't jobs where you are then think about moving where there are jobs.

Lera M., Sep 16, 2008, 11:09am EDT

Where is that Lera? I'll gladly consider moving. Oh wait, I can't sell my house because of the market. I can't move too far because I can't afford the gas to get there. Oh wait, look here's an email from my company. "You're doing a great job and we would love to give you a raise but all increases are hereby stopped during this current economic condition. We will re-visit this issue in six months". Whew. Fortunately prices will stay put on things like energy, housing, food, insurance... if they continued to rise, I'd be screwed.

I'm pleased for your good fortune Lera but your expierence is not shared among the general populace.

I only make about $7.75/hr actually I'm at my six month raise area so I should be getting $8.00 here soon. and I'll keep getting raises every 6 months til I'm top-rated at a whopping $8.60 I cant make any more money as long as I'm part time. and its not becuase the Company thinks im doing a good job, its because I'm in the Union and we get those rate increases no matter what, as long as things dont get too bad that they have to go back and re-negotiate the contract. and between me and My G/fs income we can barely keep our heads above water. Gather helps out bunches! *cheap cheesy emotional plug for how Gather helps me out*

Nick she gets an 8% raise and is making more money so assumes she is better off....of course the fact that it costs 37% more to meet the essential today than it did 8 years ago....

"Now about all the "attacks" on Palin...answer please.'

That her baby isn't really her baby. The news media wanted DNA testing.
That her children were names after witches.
That she banned books and even had a list of books to be banned.
That it was her fault that her son has Down Syndrome because she didn't take care of herself while being pregnant.

and that is not really that much above minimum wage, in my state in 06' at the same time we placed Dems in power we voted to incrase minimum wage. in our state. at the beginning it went up from $5.15/hr to 6.85/hr I think now min wage in OH is 7 or maybe 7.15/hr I'm not sure. so new hires at my job are making almost as much as me and I've been there 3 years in January.

And Obama voted with his party 98% of the time. Where is the change and hope we can believe in? He didn't a darn thing while he was in Chicago and he won't change a thing as president.

The banning books is vital to see what kind of person she is.

By her own admission she didnt take the proper precautions during pregnancy...she flew on an airplane while in early labor....great family values there.

The baby isnt really hers...well how many articles on Edwards affair and Clintons blowjob have you seen.

If she is covering up it is lying...same principle as affairs and cigars up vaginas.

Didnt the news media want DNA from a certain black dress?

Wah! we don't want the unions to be around to make sure we pay our employees fair and competitive wages!

Wah! we'd rather be screwge McDuck style and pay them 3 pennies and hour!

Wah! Our CEO's Can't buy that expensive sports car, Mansion, Private Jet, and Private Island that they wanted!

I am MUCH better off now than I was 8 years ago.

Why? Because the economic policies of my right-to-work state, Texas, have afforded businesses with opportunities to grow and thrive.

So, while many other states (Michigan comes to mind) struggle with failed liberal economic policies, and Union strangleholds, many Texans enjoy a sort of insulation from those particular woes.

We have been hit hard by the mortgage crisis - but, really whose fault is that? Shady lending practices, and rules that were bent if not outright broken, seem to have been the cause.

All that aside, I am not personally better off because of these things. I am better off because I educated myself, and when the right opportunity came along I was able to convince my employer of my abilities.

Stop looking to the government to solve your problems, and take some ownership yourselves.

Obviously she didnt. My uncle died when I was 6 months pregnant with my last child and since I was 40 he forbid me to even ride in a car from FL to MI let alone ride in a plane. Having 5 kids doesnt make you a good parent it just means your fertile.

Blue dress, Lori. Blue dress. I'd rather see them get DNA from a blue dress to prove what a cheating, lying under oath, pig Bill Clinton is than get it from a four month old baby because of a ridiculous story.

I don't care for this response. What are you implying? Are you suggesting that I am out spending money like a drunken sailor? No. Not even close. I work two jobs. I try to help out my parents when I can. I don't eat out or even go to bars. I haven't been to a movie in over a year. I work Lera. And I live well within my means. I also sit and watch my 401K dissolve before my eyes and taking away any thought I had of EVER retiring right along with it. I will work until I drop dead which apparently is the Republican way unless you're one of those at the top.

I'm pleased that you have discovered the secret of making wealth in a shit economy. That's great. But please don't think, even for a minute, that the rest of us 'complainers' are out here blowing money left and right on hookers, booze, expensive cars and imported cheese (I had to put cheese in there - it was getting too serious).

chandra I agree with you on that but on the other hand with the government giving tax breaks to big corporations that take their companies out of this country and then allowing the unfair balance of trade etc...it is hard to take all the responsibility on.

Sure we would all get a MBA but then who would we work for that hasnt moved their businesses to China or India?

enjoy your Right-to work state, when the company you work for decides they don't want to give you any more raises becuase they don't owe you anything, and the cost of living goes up and you can't pay your bills.

and you are an at-will employee with no protection and could get fired for farting crosswind!

where as, here in my "Liberal Union Stronghold" state, I have at least some Job protection and guaranteed raises and the like. because of my Union.

So Obama being the antichrist is OK but Palin banning books or possibly covering for babies parentage is just an outright attack?

Come on youre smarter than that.

They are both horrible.

But if Palin wouldnt have done damage control by throwing her daughter to the wolves.....she cant be the Mom cause she is pregnant now.

Why did she do that?

Why not offer doctors reports? A crib card? Anything but that. Palin has brought alot of this on herself.

You never saw that kind of crap out of my mouth. I defended Obama in some of those attacks. I even had my comments deleted in a few of those and the person removed me as a connection because I didn't go along with the program. I am still telling people that he isn't a Muslim. The guy who changed my oil the other day thinks he is a Muslim and I told him it wasn't true.
