Minneapolis, Minn. - Left wing media outlets continue to push stories critical of Gov. Sarah Palin and her family. Clearly this political newcomer has struck terror into the hearts of liberals, prompting some of the most repugnant reporting even by mainline media standards.
Apparently McCain picked the right running mate.

I hate the fact that both parties use "bashing" as a way to get votes, but going after Gov. Palin's daughter is about as low as the media can go. Just watch how many ads come out not that Obama, does not approve.
By the way, I love the poster!
Better get your OBAMA AIR GAUGE! The air is coming out of the Obama campaign!
Think how hatefull the media will be tonight if she is a hit! The Obama campaign has to be carefull what to say! The media will carry the water for Obama on this one!
Sept. 2, 2008—
Is the McCain campaign afraid of an 'October surprise' involving vice-presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska?
The Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election.
Poor Obama has lost his luster. Shine on you crazy Palin diamond!
Shoooosh.... she will be speaking tonight. Let's not ruin the moment. Get on the wagon or shut your hole, moonbat.
I can understand why they would be so opposed to a woman who would rather have a child than abort it, supports heterosexual marriage, winning the war, no tax increases, tapping our own oil reserves, and of course the worse thing of all, believes in God. She's obviously everything they hate.
you can scare me with Sarah Palin any time. I am terrified!
I can't imagine any democrat being "terrified" of her selection in the least. Everyone that I knew, democrat or just progressive liberal like myself, was jumping up and down ifor joy when we heard the news. She appeals only to the wackiest of the wacky extremists on the wackiest fringe of the fringey wackadoodle segment of the wacky wingnut party. She's had almost no affect whatsoever on normal people, according to recent polling.
Btw, nice sexism in your photoshopped poster there. You wingnuts sure have a way of offending women, don't you?
That would be normal God-fearing working class Americans - a class of people no doubt quite foreign to secular-socialist Obama Kool-Aid drinking liberals :)
BTW, I'll take that bet. Despite the slimiest (even by Democratic standards) disinformation campaign in recent years, Palin will stand strong. She's faced tougher (and more intelligent) foes while hunting. Or fishing for that matter.
Clark, honey, I like you, but I am going to have to stop following you like this. Some of these folks belong in a cult. Ready to make complete fools of themselves over the qualifications of someone they hadn't even heard of as of last Friday morning.
What is John McCain so afraid of is more to the point, junior. He can't take a scheduled interview with Larry King, a wet noodle, because someone at CNN asked a question about Ms. Ready to Rule the World's national defence experience. He wants to keep holding up a turd and saying flower and he doesn't expect anyone is going to ask a question?
And Ready at Day One? This is Day 5 and she isn't allowed to take a question from a reporter and she will be reading a speech somebody else has prepared for her from the teleprompter. You might want to change your handle to Fringey Wackadoodle. It has a certain ring to it.
There is no 'disinformation' or 'lies'. The truth about Palin is slowly emerging, and it seems the only way that McCain could have selected her is if she lied or withheld information about herself.
Do you think the press will attack Joe Biden when he makes her cry in the VP debate?
Woman President: Clinton vs. Palin 52% to 41%
Wednesday, September 03, 2008
Voters by a substantial majority think a woman is likely to be elected president of the United States in the next 10 years, and nearly half (48%) think Hillary Clinton is at least somewhat likely to be the one.
But not if men have their way. In a head-to-head match-up, they prefer Sarah Palin over Clinton 49% to 45% according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Women prefer the former first lady over Palin 57% to 35%.
Clinton has been in the spotlight for what 16 years now - Palin has been in the spotlight now 6 days and Hillary only has an 11 point lead - Amazing!!!
Palin is also the second most favorite politician Americans would like to meet, second only to Obama and only by a slight margin.
So Hillary's been in our faces for 16+ years and has no traction...Obama has been spoon fed to us fo the past 4+ years as the next Martin Luther King (hardly)...and this vitual unknown mother of 5, whose husband is as blue-collar as they come if able to play in the same sand-box!!! WOW!!!
Did you really write "...Ready to make complete fools of themselves over the qualifications of someone they hadn't even heard of as of last Friday morning." ?
And you're supporting Obama, right? For President, right?
I'm sure you can enlighten us all with Barack Hussein's many accomplishments while serving his country. You don't have to list them all, maybe just the highlights (ahem).
PS: THIS country, not his others
Love the Palin picture.
Wow, Clark you really need a chill pill.
Why do I feel it necessary to keep standing up for John Mccain whenever I see your posts to threads? I would have a very hard time voting for him, but I cannot simply allow anyone to cast ongoing mis-truths about anyone!!!
FYI:
Associated Press
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
WASHINGTON — From his five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp to his tenure as the Navy’s liaison to the Senate, John McCain’s Navy record boils down to a series of unadorned paragraphs that bestow upon him some of the nation’s top military honors.
The Navy recently released McCain’s military record — most of it citations for medals during his Navy career — after a Freedom of Information Act request by The Associated Press.
McCain was awarded a Silver Star Medal for resisting “extreme mental and physical cruelties” inflicted upon him by his captors from late October to early December 1967, the early months of his captivity, according to the citation. The North Vietnamese, according to the Navy, ignored international agreements and tortured McCain “in an attempt to obtain military information and false confessions for propaganda purposes.”
McCain, now the Republican Party’s likely presidential nominee, was taken prisoner in October 1967 after he was shot down while on a mission over Hanoi. He wasn’t freed until March 1973, after the United States signed peace agreements with the North Vietnamese. His captors tortured him and held him in solitary confinement. Still, he declined an offer of early release until those who had been at the prison longer than him were let go.
That decision earned McCain a Navy Commendation Medal. Although McCain was “crippled from serious and ill-treated injuries,” he steadfastly refused offers of freedom from those holding him prisoner. “His selfless action served as an example to others and his forthright refusal, by giving emphasis to the insidious nature of such releases, may have prevented a possibly chaotic deterioration in prisoner discipline,” the citation says.
McCain attended the U.S. Naval Academy from 1954 to 1958, and was commissioned as an ensign in June of that year. He retired in April 1981 with the rank of captain. In that time he received 17 awards and decorations. Besides the Silver Star Medal, McCain also received the Legion of Merit with a combat “V” and one gold star, a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Art Medal with a combat “V” and two gold stars.
Several citations mention his achievements either as a prisoner or as a lieutenant commander flying bombing runs off the deck of the USS Oriskany. Some are signed by then-Secretary of the Navy John Warner, who would become a colleague of McCain’s in the Senate.
The citations refer to his “accurate ordnance delivery” and his “aggressive and skillful airmanship.” He earned his Bronze Star the day before he was shot down, for participating in a mission over an airfield in Phuc Yen, 11 miles north of Hanoi.
The citation for his Distinguished Flying Cross sums up McCain’s misfortune the following day:
“Although his aircraft was severely damaged, he continued his bomb delivery pass and released his bombs on the target. When the aircraft would not recover from the dive, Commander McCain was forced to eject over the target.”
Years later, as his Navy career approached its end, McCain received the Legion of Merit Medal. By then, his missions were in the halls of Congress as a liaison to the Senate from the Navy’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
He was praised for providing Navy leaders “with sage advice and sound judgment for enacting critical legislation during a period of severe fiscal constraint.”
The following year, he ran for Congress from Arizona, and won.
Again, this is an "Associated Press" piece, not one that you will likely find in the New York Times, National Enquirer or Washington Monthly - what seem to be your sources for "truthful" "un-biased" news!!!
Are Democrats Terrified by Palin? No, but maybe they are weary of seeing the resurrection of the Jerry Falwell culture wars -- all in the name of politics.
If you honestly believe that Obama is going to deliver a feasible health care program fit for ALL Americans and do so without taking more of your hard-earned money - then I say to you "what are you smokin' - cause I want some of that!!!
There is absolutely NO WAY Obama (or anybody else) can deliver on the type of promises that Obama made during his acceptance speach. Simply do the math yourself with a piece of paper and pencil. Any third-grader can see that it DOES NOT add up.
I believe that Obama "wishes" that he can deliver, but I am also seasoned enough to realize that this is just more wishful thinking on the part of our corrupt 2-party system. They fail to realize (either party) that they are the root of most of the trouble facing this nation.
The "CHANGE" we need is a complete overhaul of the system - something that neither party is willing to allow us to see.
My favorite promise was when he said he was going to get more pay for teachers. I almost choked... of course, then I realized the gullible crowd he was talking to. The stuff Obama says never really registers with these people -- there is no critical facilities being exercised.
For you moonbats who didn't figure it out, teachers are typically paid by the county and the education budget is mostly funded by property taxes. The federal gov has NOTHING to do with teacher pay. Anywhoo.... you could go down a list of all the BS Obama was spitting that night. It's sad there are so many ignorant voters out there that base their choices on emotion.
You.... are a retarded, hate filled, lying moonbat.
And we're still waiting to get repaid from England, France, Germany, Japan and Korea from our involvements there. A few years back, I read an article written by an MIT professor who had calculated that if America would just be paid back what we have spent overseas - forgive ALL interest completely, that we would instantly erradicate our deficit, totally fix welfare and midecare (something neither party even wants to talk about anymore) and give us a surplus the size we've never seen before.
I've looked online to find that article again but haven't et located it.
Let's be honest here...McCain never said that he was in favor of prolonging the war in Irag for 100 years - that is simply propaganda. What he said was that we still have troops in Germany and Japan (63 years after WWII), Korea (53 years after the Korean Conflict), the Phillipines and other places around the world and that we could have troops stationed in Irag in a similar fashion and for as long a time.
As far as the Iraq surplus: here is the truth in that story...
"U.S. government auditors say the Iraqi government is on track to end the year
with a $79 billion budget surplus.
The problem is the Iraqi government is not up to the task of spending it. The
congressional Government Accountability Office noted the "relative shortage of
trained budgetary, procurement and other staff with the next necessary technical
skills as a factor limiting the Iraqi government's ability to plan and execute its
capital spending."
In other words, the Iraq government has yet to spend any of their own money to rebuild a lot of their needed infra-structure. They are not just sitting there on piles of cash having a party at our expense.
Don't get me wrong...I think that the next Commander & Chief should nnounce to the world that the US is no longer going to act as the World Police and that within a ten year time table fraw-down every single man, woman and child service personel serving outside of the US borders. Just imagine how much $$$ we'd safe.
One with a squeaky clean image the repukes worship, another of a Separatist who wants Alaska out of the Union. A Rove like woman who pressured a public servant to fire an enemy, her bro in law. A woman who raised money and stood by Indicted Sen. Ted Stevens. A woman investigated for abuse of power. Yeah she claimed she was for ethical government just like Mark Foley passed legislation protecting kids from sexual predators.
A woman who left the town she presided as mayor in DEBT up the Ying Yang. She’s a Fiscal CONservative all right.
Bad, bad press why do they report this stuff? Don’t they know it’s harmful to Palin’s Campaign?
She sounds more like Bush than McSame.
Ha! Not having the ability to spend the money is laughable. If the Iraqis don't have the skills to spend the money, why don't we help them out by distributing it to their citizens for them. What incentive do they have to spend their own money when the American taxpayers (and our children -- this is borrowed money) are picking up the tab?
McCain's statement about the 100 year stay in Iraq is not propaganda. He said it and defended it. That alone is reason enough not to elect him.
I'll delete any comment here where you can't muster the intelligence to communicate your "thoughts" at a sixth grade level or above.
A Star Is Born. Poor dimocrats got ripped tonight. Rudy hit it out of the park, then Sarah Palin hit it out of the park and broke the bat.
"I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Sarah Palin's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often." -- well, I guess MSNBC loons were shut up tonight.
The lies that are being passed as truths about Palin are comical. I wonder, will any of the people who have attacked her here admit that they were wrong when it is proven on those pesky alternative news sources.
The good Pastor on the Bush-Kerry Election: "I'm not going tell you who to vote for, but if you vote for this particular person, I question your salvation. I'm sorry."
The good Pastor on criticizing Bush after Katrina: "I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."
The good Pastor in Iraq war mode: What you see in a terrorist -- that's called the invisible enemy. There has always been an invisible enemy. What you see in Iraq, basically, is a manifestation of what's going on in this unseen world called the spirit world. ... We need to think like Jesus thinks. We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die. You're worried about getting hurt? He's called us to die. Listen, you know we can't even follow him unless you are willing to give up your life. ... I believe that Jesus himself operated from that position of war mode. Everyone say "war mode." Now you say, wait a minute Ed, he's like the good shepherd, he's loving all the time and he's kind all the time. Oh yes he is -- but I also believe that he had a part of his thoughts that knew that he was in a war. "
Since these revelations were made public, the website for Wasilla Assembly of God has shut down.
Weird. I've yet to see you do the same when the wacky wingnut smear Obama with their wingnut lies. Why is that, do you suppose?
Allow me to enlighten you wacky wingnut loony toons about McCain's hidden navy files:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-klein/mccains-secret-questionab_b_107409.html
http://www.opednews.com/articles/McCrash-McCain-s-Military-by-Hill-Kemp-080823-263.html
http://www.vvof.org/mccain_hides.htm
Gee, no wonder he wants to keep those files under wraps, huh?
"(you're obviously a Daily Kos regular)."
Although most of the internet political junkies are, I am not. Sorry. I do like what Markos has to offer, but it's not a regular visit for me. I do have to say though, that I find it humorous that the wacky, loony toon wingnuts have such great difficulty with his site, even though I've yet to see any of them able to refute anything he's presented. It's almost as if they're allergic to facts, I guess.
"I'll delete any comment here where you can't muster the intelligence to communicate your "thoughts" at a sixth grade level or above.
I've come to fully expect censorship from the wacky wingnut brigage. Anytime any of you feel threatened with reality, you simply remove it from your presence. It's never stopped me from presenting it, however. You'll have to work a lot harder than that to keep yourself immersed in your little bubble o'wingnut delusion.
You sure about that Clark?
How about if she's still around in a week or so you agree never to post on gather again? "
Typical. See, this is what I was JUST saying about the wacky, delusional, factually-challenged, loony toon wingnuts. Anytime they feel threatened with facts and reality, they curl up into a little ball and urinate on themselves. Little dickless billy bong here apparently can't handle the fact that his disastrous presidential candidate has made the worst VP selection in the history of the country, so, he's using my bold statement that she'll be gone in 1-2 weeks as a desperate opportunity to rid himself of the truth, facts, and reality that pummel him from at least one corner of his pathetic world.
Sorry, little billy, but it won't work. Nice attempt, though. How about this? If I'm RIGHT, you enlist and go over to Iraq? That way, you can still post your inane, ignorance-based nonsense here, but you'll also have the opportunity to finally puts your balls on the line for the party that you worship so ardently, and the illegal occupation that they've created for you.

Then, take a look at what the founder of that anti-American political organization had to say:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmt0rLtgmK0&feature=related
Then, just try to imagine what the rabid rightwing would have to say about Obama (or ANY democrat) if they belonged to, supported, or could even be remotely tied to such an organization. Then, watch as the hypocrites here spin this.
Will somebody please tell me why Sarah Palin refused to wear a flag lapel pin last night?
Hey Clark, you still think she's gonna step down in two weeks? LOL
Whether or not this is even remotely a "refused" situation, is not wearing a flag lapel pin a problem?
Palin opted for the Service Star, in Honour of her Nephew who is currently serving in the Gulf, and her Son, who is about to deploy to Iraq with the U.S. army. A tradition since World War ll.
;)
Within two weeks, yes. They're just beginning to scratch the surface of her ethics scandal in Alaska, and, unfortunately for her, the public safety commissioner's words don't match up very well with hers. Ooops.
"Whether or not this is even remotely a "refused" situation, is not wearing a flag lapel pin a problem? '
It certainly was when the wacky loonie toon wingnuts were eviscerating Obama for the same thing, but just as I knew would happen, the rightwing hypocrisy rears its dumbass head on command, as usual! Thanks for not disappointing, loons!
"Sarah Palin i s going to do to Barack Obama what Barack Obama did to Hillary Clinton and I am going to enjoy watching every second of it."
Graciously show him deep respect and applaud his liberal positions, especially those in favor of a woman's right to choose? Gotta see that.
She's a member of the Blue Star Mothers of America? Good for her to proudly wear her blue star! Did you know the organization started during WWII but the practice of putting a service flag in the window started in WWI? We "Blue Stars" have been around for quite a while!
Oh, Clark baby! You want some cheese with that whine? If she is wearing a service star then you certainly shouldn't have a problem there! That is an American tradition! I'm so proud of her for wearing her service star!
Why direct people to your own article when you have an opportunity to discuss issues right here?
Oh get off of it clark-bar. You were raising havoc over people point out Obama not wearing a flag pin and now you are flip-flopping? You OBVIOUSLY don't understand the service star and Blue Star Mothers! Here is a link for your perusal. They are as American as apple pie! A service pin is just as good as an American flag lapel pin so get over it and move forward!
Maybe these two are the same people. Or maybe run in the same herd.
That's too funny.
Love the poster though. Good One !!
Does this look familiar, Bill's Spirit?
"Cathi is still waiting for the power to come back!"
Does that look familiar to you?
Wonderful! You know of the Service Star!!! And the M4!!! You're ONE of me!
Yes, You are quite right; Mothers and Wives displayed the Star in their windows, while pining for, and to honour and respect, their Man or Son engaged in Combat in Europe in "The Great War."
That tradition lives on, and is carried out today, by Mrs. Sarah Palin.
Since you seem to feel jilted, here's a few more words to make this a longer comment. This is a short article, heavy with spin, but with very little actual substance. Any lengthy response on my part would just be nit picking at words which seem obviously used for inflammatory and accusatory effect.
I don't know what media Scooter Van Neuter is reading, listening to or watching, but I have not seen, read or heard anything that could approach "some of the most repugnant reporting" I've ever heard, seen or read. Everything about Palin, so far, seems in the same vein as has been leveled at any other political candidate.
I guess I could say "I'm sorry" to Scooter over the fact that he seems to be offended with hurt feelings over the media coverage Palin is receiving, but that would just be an empty sentiment from me since I don't share his views and I do not work for any media producer.
The Obama and Biden crew may be experiencing some confusion about how to react to Palin's promotion as the Republican VP candidate, but there is no sign of "terror" having been struck into their hearts.
I liked it when someone did the exact same treatment to Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Margaret Thatcher, Geraldine Ferraro, etc. It's becoming quite a tradition for every woman who shakes things up to have their face tacked to this poster.
Oddly enough I have seen very few ads from either side, other than in particular programs which have veered from the negative.
I discovered in the last two elections that facts don't seem to matter to many people. Debates are something else. In 04 I paid particularly close attention and found that die hard shrub fans thought he was just brilliant!
Conclusion....hard line GOP people are going to think she is Wonder Woman on Steroids even if it turns out that she killed 28 people and fed them to Polar Bears while helping Osama Bin Laden plan his next attack on the US, these people will still think of her as being greatness personafied.
And yes their are some DEMS who will do the same.
Personally all I care about is the state of my country. She is hurting very much at this point and I need to elect the person who is best going to fix it. In order to do that you have to recognize it in the first place
The Spirit Star is as it has been throughout many times of war and conflict, a flag/window sign that displays a star for each loved one, husband/wife, son/daughter, father/mother who is serving at that time. When they are over there the star is usually a green color. If you come across one with a gold star that means that the service memeber is dead.
But how do you credit it to Palin?
Mark-John was not crediting the service star to Palin, he was crediting her for proudly displaying the service star and stating that she, as many of us Blue Star moms, is carrying on the tradition of wearing the service star. The displaying of the service flag started in The Great War and the organization, Blue Star Mothers of America, began in WWII. You can read more about this great American tradition at www.bluestarmothers.org.
Thank You!
Wackadoodle. I am putting that on the top of my favorite words list.
Thank you Clark!
Bah Ram Ewe! ;-P
Last night I watched Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech at the Republican Convention and I feel compelled to comment. While I thought she did a fantastic job at being articulate, amusing and passionate I was frustrated by the partial truths that were incorporated into her speech. For instance, the “Bridge to Nowhere” bit where she claims that she said “Thanks, but no thanks” – that part is true but doesn’t it make a difference that we kept the federal money and spent it on other projects? Or that she once supported that bridge and continues to support a similar bridge out of Anchorage (to vacant land in her home town area) or a road to nowhere along the coast north of Juneau (and both have large federal dollars being used for the projects)?
Palin has only been in office for 2 years now. I was thoroughly impressed and delighted with her handling of the former governor’s jet; and her willingness to stand against the republican party in our state congress. However, I started to get concerned with her first budget which she proudly referred to in last night’s speech. She did strongly exercise her veto power even though we were in a surplus time already (she shouldn’t take credit for the surplus – it is thanks to the high oil prices). She vetoed a lot of programs targeted at kids, two that I remember are the hockey program in the Anchorage School District and repairing one of the 3 high school swimming pools in Anchorage. These and many other things across the state were cut but she funded building a brand new sports arena in her own home town which has fewer total residents than Anchorage probably has in high school students.
Thanks to the miserably high oil prices, our Alaska state budget has enormous surpluses yet Palin’s paring of government has meant that state employee’s pay and benefits are far below average. We see many state employees taking federal jobs now and I know of several upper-level state positions that they have been unable to fill (after multiple advertisements). At least 2 that I know of are critical fire positions that help lead the State’s fire suppression for all lands in the south half of the state (an area about twice the size of California). I think that the only reason the state government is still functioning in many agencies is that the employees refuse to give up. The same is true for teacher salaries, and the state pension that doesn’t really exist any longer. None of the surplus dollars are going toward fixing these problems. That’s a frightening thought for how our nation may be managed.
One of our friends did a better job at documenting some of these concerns and identifying others that I haven’t mentioned yet. I’m including that information below. I hope you will consider it but remember that you don’t have to take our word for it – you can research the facts yourself by going through state records and websites and the Anchorage Daily News which has always been in support of Palin.
If you want to respond to us, go ahead but please don’t hit “reply all”! Pass this message along to others who may want to know about Palin from Alaskans.
Remember to vote!
Palin’s Record and Positions on
Eight Key Energy and Environmental Issues
Sarah Palin’s positions on key energy and environmental issues are out-of-step with the American public, and are, in many instances, even inconsistent with John McCain’s positions. Here are 8 key topics:
1) Global Warming – Not Human Caused. As recently as August 29th of this year, when asked, “What is your take on global warming?”, Sarah Palin clearly stated that she is “not one” “who would attribute it to being man-made” (Newsmax 8/29/08). Her position, of course, is not shared by Senator McCain. As governor, she has not set any greenhouse gas reduction goals for Alaska, nor has she has joined the Western Climate Initiative as a full member or engaged constructively in any other regional initiative.
2) Polar Bears – Bad Science and Bad Process. Governor Palin has adamantly opposed listing polar bears under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Her actions and comments regarding polar bears and the impact of global warming on the Arctic Ice Cap reveal serious problems with her views on science and proper governmental process. Governor Palin asserted that the state did a “comprehensive review” of the science and found no reason to support a listing. This statement flatly contradicted the conclusions reached and communicated by the state’s leading marine mammal biologists. In an internal state e-mail from the head of Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s marine mammals program and two other staff biologists, the scientists concluded that the Department of Interior’s nine key polar bear and Arctic Ice Cap studies clearly justified listing the polar bear as threatened. (see “Alaska’s Palin misrepresented state’s polar bear findings,”by Tom Kizzia, Anchorage Daily News 5/25/08). Given the compelling scientific evidence, even Secretary Kempthorne concluded that he had no legal option other than to list (Secretary of Interior’s Remarks, May 14, 2008). Palin has sued the Secretary to remove the ESA protection for polar bears. Governor Palin also opposed listing Cook Inlet beluga whales under the ESA, despite calls from the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission to do so, and even though there are fewer than 400 remaining.
3) The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- Drill. Contrary to the position of Senator McCain, Sarah Palin supports drilling in the pristine coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Invoking President Bush, she believes we need to “appreciate the president’s call to drill in ANWR” (CNBC, Kudlow & Company, 7/31/08).
4) Wolves, Bears and Predator Control -- Assault. Sarah Palin and her administration have supported eliminating significant numbers of wolves and bears – to achieve 80% reductions in some cases – from large areas of the state of Alaska, ignoring science (NRC Study) and using controversial methods. During her Administration, the state has been encouraging aerial wolf hunting, resulting in over 100 teams of private airborne hunters. Her administration’s plan to offer $150 per killed wolf was ruled an illegal bounty by the Alaska courts (Anchorage Daily News 3/15/08). Among many other examples of her objectionable management of wolves and bears, her appointed Board of Game authorized killing of black bear sows with cubs. Not surprisingly, illegal abuses have occurred during her tenure, such as the shooting by state officials of five-week old wolf pups just outside their dens.
5) Clean Water – Not. Governor Palin approved a “Clean Water Act” permit that allows oil and gas corporations to virtually triple the amount of toxic pollution they emit into Cook Inlet fisheries each year. Furthermore, she has not reversed the damage that the Murkowski Administration did to Alaska’s water quality laws associated with expanding dilution based mixing zones and harming the Coastal Zone Management Program. Among other positions, she did not support legislation that would have banned mixing zones in important fish habitat. She also “personally” and questionably opposed the Clean Water Initiative, Proposition 4 (KTUU 8/22/08), with numerous full page ads, contributing to its defeat.
6) Bridges to Nowhere – Former and Current Support. There have been two infamous Bridges to Nowhere in Alaska, both presenting serious environmental as well as fiscal issues. The Gravina Bridge to Nowhere was initially supported by Sarah Palin, when she was running for office (Anchorage Daily News 8/31/08). She changed her position on that bridge after she was elected, but did not return the federal funds. The state under her leadership is still spending federal money on the Knik Arm Bridge to Nowhere ($40 million and counting) which is proposed to go from Anchorage to undeveloped land near Wasilla, Sarah Palin’s hometown. Despite its many problems, she has not cancelled this Bridge to Nowhere project (Anchorage Daily News 6/9/08). She also has not cancelled the environmentally damaging “road to nowhere” north of Juneau (a $400 million project) and the road to nowhere on Gravina Island (a 3.4 mile, $26 million project), both of which will be paid for almost entirely with federal money.
7) Give-Aways – Big Ones. Governor Palin triggered legislation to give virtually all Alaskans a “surplus” check of $1,200 per person this fall, and to suspend the state’s motor fuel taxes entirely (Executive Proclamation). Conservationists and others urged her administration to implement and provide, instead, programmatic and individual funding for energy efficiency and energy conservation measures, which would give short- and long-term energy cost-relief, as well as reduce Alaskan’s carbon footprint. She did not do so.
8) Federal Resource Development Earmarks – More Please. When asked whether government should assist the development of mines with funding for infrastructure, Sarah Palin stated: “Now I’m gonna fight hard…for the federal financial support of our infrastructure that Alaska deserves… The strength of our delegation there in DC is the envy of all other states… Representative Don Young, especially, God bless him, with transportation... We’re very, very fortunate to receive the largesse that Don Young was able to put together for Alaska” (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=141589462729253531&vt=lf&hl=en, Video title: “Palin – 2006 APDC forum q4”).
The woman has an EIGHTY PERCENT popularity rating, the highest in the country (I know this hurts, it's impossible to spin).
The above hit-piece making the rounds at all the usual lib sites is definitely the exception, and knowing how the Dems roll, is most likely fictitious.
BTW, I'm a former lifelong DEMOCRAT that wouldn't vote for Obama if my life depended on it. See, we're just alike.
A good salesman will do and say just about anything to close a deal. That applies to all candidates. The dust didn’t even settled over Palin before the negative reactions and lack of objectivity went on the attack. It becomes obvious that decisions have been made with cut-throat fervor and a line already drawn in the sand.
Obama could have picked Hilary for his running mate. He didn’t. I suspect a backroom deal was struck giving her what she wanted for her and her husband to say all of those wonderful things about him. I can’t help but wonder what deal was made to get her to say all that blah-blah scripted fun and games. It was quite a performance. I really would like to believe what politicians tell us, but time and time again they prove themselves to be servants of their own self-serving, self importance for their own personal financial gain. There should be an Emmy for the best performance by a politician. At least then it would be what it is.
The President has many advisors along with our government’s many checks and balances. If anything happened to any President we would be just fine.
There is no magic wand or pill to make things better. Change for the better will only come when we the citizens of our country and of the world put aside our differences in exchange for the positive things and needs we all have in common and elect our leadership to do our will, not theirs.
It all begins with us.
With truth there comes trust and a new beginning would be at our doorstep with unlimited possibilities. I only hope that most of us can recognize reality and truth through the pretense of any perceived or significant so-called change for the better.
It’s impossible to know what any candidate’s true intentions are. Sometimes we have to rely completely on our instincts. Since all Democrats are NOT like-thinking Democrats and all Republicans are NOT like-thinking Republicans we should remain objective. It’s important to keep an open mind right up to the moment we cast our vote. It would be wise to look beyond the performances and sales presentations, with some common sense to decide who has a more realistic goal; something you believe he will be able to deliver in 4 to 8 years. Anything else at this time will only result in false promises of hoped for dreams, unrealistic promises with little substance and a lot of rhetoric.
“Vote for the man who promises least – he’ll be the least disappointing.”
Bernard Baruch
And I might add, more truthful.
"Among mortals second thoughts are wisest."
Euripides
Scooter, you are doing something right... Keep up the good work....
I'd like to ask you a question.
Would you shoot a helpless animal from an airplane?
Please answer honestly.
Yes I love shooting helpless animals from airplanes, in fact I just landed after picking-off three cats, a caribou, and what looked like either a beaver or giant squirrel (I was pretty high).
Instead of deleting anything, don’t you think that those who find interest in your posts can decide for themselves whether or not they want to read it or its comments? Sandy didn’t use profanity, or name-calling; maybe she just had other thoughts she wanted to add. Do you really believe that she submitted multiple short posts with the intent of simply irritating people? I don’t. It’s your post and you have the power to delete anything you want. I only ask you to remember that censorship defeats the purpose of a free society.
What we don’t need is an idealistic, unrealistic, dogmatic, and naïve perception of real issues that in reality won’t go away. I believe that it’s possible that Obama may just be telling his followers what they want to hear to get him elected. Once elected, I also believe that things will change one way or the other. A President needs to act with wisdom based on experience and good solid judgment.
Throughout our short country’s history both Democrat and Republican administrations have taken us to war. The volatility in the Middle East is NOT going to go away. If anyone thinks that one candidate over the other will just turn a blind eye to what’s happening your sadly mistaken. With nuclear bombs in the hands of fanatics and the Middle East in a state of chaos, it's only a matter of time when the bubble will burst. When you can't reason with unreasonable people the short list of options gets even shorter. Our presence in the Middle East is not just about Iraq.
Scooter,I completely agree with your comments and analysis. For any leader to subscribe to the mantra of, “No armed conflict under any circumstances" only invites an open-door self-serving mentality to take advantage of what our enemies perceive as weakness. If we left Iraq tomorrow, I believe we would be back there within two years or worse. Those with so little value for human life and a distorted world view cannot be trusted to live and let live. World War I and II is an example of us not getting involved early enough before evil’s wicked agenda killed countless thousands and threatened our way of life. None of us want war, but where evil exists it would be unwise to be complacent or turn a blind eye.
That I worry about!!!!!!
So here is one definition of an elitist Scooter.
Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite — a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern [1

"Rudy brought the house down" OMG that may be the funiest thing I have ever heard Donny boy say.. Rudy said "vote for John McCain, why? Did I mention 911? Vote for Sarah Palin, why? Did I mention 911? Have I ever told you folks about 911? Do you know that I was a hero on 911? Pay no attention to what them firemen say about me screwing them out of health benefits after 911... did I mention I was a hero on 911? Did you see me at Ground Zero on 911? In fact I think John McCain was there with me on 911. You people just didn't see him. Even if he wasn't really there, he was there in spirit, while I was being a hero on 911. Sarah Palin was out pulling for the $ for the bridge to nowhere right about then but I think in reality she was there also while I was a hero on 911. Hey have I ever told you people about 911? You do remember me don't you? I was a hero on 911!!"

Didn't Bush have an 80% approval rating in his first two years in office also? I wonder how the next Gov of Alaska will do when they have to pay for all of what Sarah has wrought? Or better yet, let's just leave her there and see what that rating is in about two years.
For you moonbats who didn't figure it out, teachers are typically paid by the county and the education budget is mostly funded by property taxes."
This is not accurate. It would be impossible to pay for education imply by property taxes. The state pays for a great deal of education costs. Federal government contributes money as well. Look at your state budget. Although the federal government does not adequately fund education especially for special education, it does provide a great deal of money to each state. If this were not true why is that only the state of Utah has made a policy to not follow "No Child Will Be Left behind?" They did this knowing that they would lose a great deal of federal money. They are small enough state that they can by tightening their belts do without federal funds though just barely. It would not be hard for the federal government to fund increase in teacher salaries. All they would have to do is to provide federal monies with a caveat attached that a portion of the money go to teachers.
I am a teacher who not only has taught for 12 years but has taught in 3 states. I keep up with the wages states pay their teachers not counties. The only exception being Oregon but even there their state helps them with their teacher salaries. Counties sometimes add to the money that each states set but they do not provide all of the wages and benefits.
The problem with not being accurate with even one of your statements Don is that it makes anyone reading them question all of what you believe and that's very sad as you seem to have taken a great deal of time formulating your opinions. It also makes me question those who agree with you. I am sure you must have had at least one good teacher who reminded you of that even if your teacher reminded you of that long long ago.
No mystery here. I can guarantee that 80 per cent will be gone in six months. There are moments (I'm sorry) when I'd like her to go on to a bigger game and leave us alaskans the hell alone.
