Here are some multi-topical political thoughts.

Rove, McCain and Obama. Oh My!!
After watching Karl Rove's appearance on "Face The Nation" this past Sunday, and tying it together with the tone of the most recent McCain campaign ads, I'd have to say that the Republican's anti-Obama message is clear.
Winning is Bad!!
Both Rove, and the McCain ads, keep saying that Barack's lead is a bad sign. That his lead is all fluff and no substance. That he is riding a wave of popularity, and that the presidency is not a popularity contest.
So, his Winning is Bad!!
They also keep saying that Barack's popularity (both national and international) is not well won. They seem to be implying that acting presidential, and being perceived as presidential somehow actually reflects an inability to be presidential.
Winning is Bad!!
I think the finding of this attitude among the Republican leadership sheds some interesting light on perhaps why this administration has been unable to bring the Iraq war to a succesful conclusion or capture Bin Laden.
Because Winning is Bad!!
A general election does actually seem to be a lot like a popularity contest.
The candidate with the most votes, wins.
I'm not sure I understand how it is that winning now is bad, when winning later is good. From where I sit, if winning later IS good, than leading now would seem to be a good thing; so long as one does not get caught napping, like that proverbial rabbit.

Helping Hillary Clinton
I have a tip for the Hillary Clinton campaign. I understand that folks are holding fundraisers to help pay off the campiagn debt that she has left from running in the primaries.
Well, if the fundraising arms are set up as non-profits, I'd suggest Hillary's people hook-up with the folks at Mission Fish. That way folks who absolutely Love her, and would like to help pay down her debt, could contribute a percentage of their eBay sales to her cause.

Calling Congress Back Into Session
Give me a break. It is reported that oil companies already hold leases (aka: drilling rights) to 68 million acres of untapped resources. Why do we need to give them more land, let alone call congress back from their break in order to vote on such a thing.
It's ridiculous.
Maybe I am having some dellusional dejavu (it's hard to tell in these politically bizarro times), but didn't the Republican dominated congress of a few years ago refuse to come back from their vacation when Democrats wanted to vote on Iraq war related items?
If I'm remembering correctly, then it's obvious that oil is more important than military blood to these folks.

Bill's Spirit is an Artist, Writer, Poet, Philosopher currently wordsmithing social commentary from a humble digital forge in small town Ohio.
The works of the man behind Bill's Spirit have been published in small, alternative and amateur presses since 1986. Before that, they just filled notebooks, decorated walls and gathered dust in piles and boxes.

"Winning is bad"!
I like that.
I can imagine someone doing that in
a tricky-dick voice/mannerisms!
Most aware people knew that Turd Blossom
was already running McLame's Slimy Campaign.
to CONS than the BLOOD of our young American men and Women
and their families?
Special session my a**!
The only Special session we need is to bring Shrub, Turd Blossom and
Trigger Happy Dicky up on charges of TREASON.
But your post is good. Got it!
Very clever writing and addresses some good points!
Keep in mind, too, that we do not know everything about this conflict. There is a good reason for this. The media already slants and distorts news reports. In any conflict, some information needs to be kept secret or risk revealing plans that would get soldiers killed.
Let's have faith in our elected representatives or else vote them out and elect those who will obey their constituents' directives when voting.
Also, Bill, supposedly, one of the Repubs that was saying Congress doesn't deserve a vacation, was out playing a lot of golf.....hmmmm sounds like vacation to me.
Mine is busy working on his campaign and meeting with the people who elected him and want to keep him in office. That is not my idea of a vacation.
And where did you get the idea we'd be able to refine any of that oil? Our refineries here are at maximum capacity. It most certainly is about oil, and other American corporate interests making big bucks (KBR, Halliburton, etc.. They don't want the oil for Americans, a glut of cheap oil would affect their profits, don't you know. But that oil would make fat cat oil companies about sixty times fatter in the pocketbook, selling the oil on the world market. The idea it isn't about oil is absurd. It has always been about the oil, oh, and getting the guy that tried to take out the shrub's daddy.

I just love this. Take it on faith something else is going on we don't know about because,.... because..... there just must be,...... right.
"Let's have faith in our elected representatives or else vote them out and elect those who will obey their constituents' directives when voting."
I'll go with that second part, bigtime.
bruce k. -- The banner you are referring to is from my Gather group "The Works of Bill's Spirit" and it appears at the top of the page you viewed because I directed folks to the copy that was stored in the group. If you were to go to my profile space and click on the spotlighted title for this article, the banner would not appear. It is solely a group thing.
I take great pride in being an Independent Moderate; and I do my best to speak with as little bias as I can.
Experience, truth, character, morals, values, honor, and a proven track record are all out there for all of us to see when having to make any informed voting decision. Image and theatricals can give a very false impression. Think of it as a salesman on his best behavior; an image of success finally closing a deal.
For many, especially in the high stakes of politics, money, and power, it becomes a game and test of wills. Some will do and say just about anything to win. For some it’s only about winning for the self-serving rewards at the end of the proverbial rainbow.
In reality, think of the last scene of the movie “The Candidate” when, after winning, Robert Redford’s character said, “Now what?”
In any election, I see little or no difference between the intent of our two parties. This IS a battle to win and usually at the expense of everyone else. After all is said and done, the unsuspecting and idealists among us, who really want to believe what they’re being promised, usually end up disappointed, to say the least. These politicians certainly aren’t supermen, but they are salesmen selling themselves to win a huge prize. For them, it really comes down to winning at almost any cost. It’s more a psychological war of words; of rhetoric, than anything of tangible substance. Brainwashing works on many levels and the very skilled know how to push the right buttons.
Remember all of the times in the past when a candidate promised one thing and when elected, did another? It’s as simple as saying later, “Well…that was then and this is now. Things change! I won.” At that point we can do nothing and are stuck with what we have for four years.
The world is in chaos and getting worse every day. There’s a lot at stake and we should all choose wisely.
I only hope that most of us can recognize reality and truth through the pretense of any perceived or significant so-called change for the better.
There is no magic wand or pill to make things better. Change for the better will only come when we the people of the world put aside our differences in exchange for the positive things and needs we all have in common. With truth there comes trust and a new beginning would be at our doorstep with unlimited possibilities.
