It sounds like a cue for protests and howls of blasphemy: the ex-queen of vampire tales and Goth fiction assuming the voice of Christ.
Instead, the second volume of Anne Rice's novelized Life of Jesus series has evangelicals swooning. Here, Jesus is a poor carpenter at 30, in love with a woman half his age, coming to terms in a dusty backwater town with a divinity and mission that will not be denied.
Listen to an On Point discussion with novelist Anne Rice on her road from vampires to Jesus, and the latest in her "Christ the Lord" series.
Are you a fan? What first drew you to the work of Anne Rice? Have you made the leap with her from the Vampire Lestat to Jesus?

Since her re-entry to Catholicism I have heard interviews, read a couple of articles, and because of excerpts am interested in reading this book. I know many evangelicals/fundamentalists who are outraged, however. Any fictional account of Christ not written by an "approved" member of the E/F pastoral community would receive the same response, so I'm not too worried about it. If the writing is up to her previous standards, she will have an audience.
I also didn't realize she was a "Jesus freak". Makes no difference to me if the story is well told.
