Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. I hope the bipartisan group doing the investigating does a thorough job and takes whatever action is appropriate. Until they have findings the Republicans should stop prejudging the decision (as if they have any grounds for moral righteousness). Both parties are guilty of partisan gamesmanship. Isn't it about time that we, the people that elected them, start holding them both accountable for their actions and inactions?

Politics aside, they changed a vote on the Floor of the House. That is outrageous and those who did it should be forced from office.

No Publius, the right wingnuts who dream of riding a nativist anti-immigrant policy to victory ALLEGE that a vote was changed.

The vote was, in fact, cancelled. Happens all the time when the party leaders cannot predict the outcome.

This is a non-issue kept alive by anti-immigration zealots who believe there MUST be a conspiracy to keep us from ruining the US agricultural and construction industries through massive deportations.

This is a hyped-up rallying point for people who hate immigrants and who hope that the Republicans can find some issue to make voters forget the horror of the Bush years.

Changing votes on the floor of the House happens all the time. This was not so much a changed vote, it was a game gone bad by the Democrats and Republicans alike.

It is not anti-immigrant, it is anti-ilegal immigrant. This not an non-issue. Changing votes that have already that everyone could be seen is an outrage. The investigation will show this illegal activity.

have you you ever got to be kidding. "Ruining" for whom ? I suppose you mean ruining the nice, nifty boost in profits that these traitors are enjoying by abandoning
the American worker, and paying undercut wages. Yeah, those poor babies. Just think
after the deportations, they'll have to go back to paying normal American wages again
and hire Americans. Somehow that doesn't look like a ruined picture to me. More like a
rectified one I'd say.
Oh, so some of these guys won't be able to stay in business ? Well, if their being
in business had to rely on breaking some of our most pro-working class protective laws
(the 1986 IRCA law), then obviously they had no business being IN business in the first place. My advice to them ? If you can't afford to be in business, get a job like the rest of us.

This is such a tempest in a teapot.

The GOP wanted to amend the agriculture bill to make explicit that no funds could be used to employ illegal immigrants. IS THIS NOT A PURELY SYMBOLIC GESTURE -- since as we all know, it IS ALREADY ILLEGAL to employ illegal aliens in this country. So what in the hell do we need an investigation for? To make sure we don't leave out a provision of a bill that we already have a law about?

We need an investigation because leaders overturned a vote of the House of Represenatives and replced it with a new vote count. As a lawyer I would hope you would have some respect for the law. The benefits are given out legally because they include welfare and such. We should not pay for Illegals period.

The Dems know how to play power politics. Should be a lesson for the GOP to stop trying to ingratiate themselves with the Inside the Beltway crowd (which cost them in '06) and keep to the values that got them their congressional majority in the first place. Then it will be the Dems whining.

Part of what's wrong with this country is the lawyers. And by the way, these illegal immigrants are should not be entitled to dip into the social services system. Aside from the fact that they are criminals, they don't pay unemployment tax, medicare, state tax, or federal tax. It you'll take a look I think you'll find that the democrats are the "giveaway" party. However; I think all politicians are liars and thieves. They rank right up there with our "honorable" lawyers.

The problem here is, if this was stolen and altered, then it would be an act to support illegal immigration in this country. One that there are already laws against, that are not being properly enforced, and seriously need to be.
The Democratic party leaders have for so long supported the illegals, and this in actuality is nearly criminal on its own, adn sipporting a crime, in accourdance to the law, is aiding a crime, I.E. Aiding and Abetting.

And frankly, this is a matter of congressional/parliamentary procedure, not a matter of "the law." I could study "the law" all my life and never touch this crap. Ask the average lawyer if he/she knows what "cloture" is.

Elizabeth to your two points. The vote is tied to Illegal Aliens because that is what the vote was about. This is the very essence of law. The making of it. What if everytime a vote was held leadership changed the vote total to their liking then we wouldnt live in a represenative democracy. The fact is they tried to close the vote early and when they did they did not have the votes so they changed the total. If you watch the clip from the floor the chamber erupts in yelling and screaming. That does not happen in the US house. This was a travesty and it is beyond me why people defend this act

Its time to step up the heat on the Senators again. There is an Amendment attached to the Defence Bill that is going to be before the Senate Next week for approval. The amendment is an amnesty for Illegals. Check it out yourself and please call or fax your Political Reps and tell them how you feel about it.
