For many years, I studied energy healing because I had chronic fatigue syndrome and Western medicine couldn't help me. Over time, I became a Reiki Master and learned hands-on healing.
A fascinating result from all of this is that I found out that energetic vibrations infuse everything. I can feel negative energy - it can often be described as being heavy, prickly, dark, and sluggish.
Once, I was giving a Reiki treatment to a woman I had just met. I did not know her medical history whatsoever. When I give a Reiki treatment, I let my hands guide me. In this particular session, I felt a lot of prickly pain in my hands when I placed them on her lower back, around her kidneys. I spent almost 20 minutes in this position, and later told her I don't normally do that. I asked "Do you have a problem there?" and she replied, "Yes, kidney disease."
The reason I share this anecdote is to illustrate that negative energy has form and power. To me, negative energy is a real thing. So when I view the situation that is going on in the Middle East, I view it through a slightly different lens than the average person.
Negative energy, as expressed through groups of people, especially during times of war, is an insidious, self-perpetuating cycle that affects both sides. Some of you coming from a Christian perspective might call this energy "evil" and suggest that evil forces are out there. I don't entirely disagree with this idea.
Evil, as negative energy, is contagious. And it's smart and savvy. Sometimes evil shows up in an obvious way - for example, 9/11. These forms of evil are easy for most to see. But what people don't see is how an event like 9/11 acts as evil poison, spreading more evil into the hearts and homes of its victims.
This evil, for example, might manifest as a government who deceives its people into a pre-emptive war under the guise of "protection." It might further deceive people into believing that taking away their civil rights is necessary for their "protection."
The people, blinded by their own fear, have now taken on negative energy of their own and are amplifying and increasing the evil around them, unwittingly.
They are also sending negative energy back to the original perpetrators, thus creating a biofeedback wave of hate that is now binding both sides together in misery.
Many spiritual teachers say there are only two basic emotions: love and fear. If you are not responding out of love, you are responding out of fear.
I believe the West is responding out of fear, not love, to the threats in the Middle East. Likewise, the people in the Middle East are responding out of fear, not love, when it comes to perceived threats from the West.
We could try to go back through eons of history and try to figure out who started the bad energy a long time ago, but that's pointless, since assigning blame only leads to more hate in the long run.
From a spiritual perspective the root of evil is the hate that you bear in your own heart.
Thus, when you respond to terrorism by hating your enemy - hating them so much that all you want is their destruction - then you have just fallen over to the Dark Side of the Force like Annikin Skywalker in Star Wars. You have become exactly that which you despise.
And I see it all the time - people here in America, criticizing the Islamic world for hating the West and wanting its destruction, while simultaneously hating the Islamic world and wanting its destruction. And you're the better person, because they started it?
You are the thing you hate the most. Don't you see?
Maybe that sounds dramatic. But it's not. The hate that you feel towards another group of human beings - even if they are being the biggest assholes in the world - only creates more hate and fear. It is a cancer, in your own heart, and a cancer and plague upon the world.
I am not suggesting there are never appropriate times for military responses. But even when that's happening, you can do a lot more for peace by sending love, compassion, and understanding to your enemy. That might be hard to do. But try it. Believe it or not, you might actually feel lighter and better as a person, because you are no longer carrying that hate around in your heart.
Ultimately, I do not think any military action will solve the current problems in the Middle East. I believe the only lasting solution will be when people learn to stop hating each other based on arbitrary divisions of race, religion, and culture.
We can do our part by sending as much positive energy to the Middle East as possible. Love the terrorists. That might sound blasphemous, but if enough love energy is coming their way, you never know, maybe some of them will put down their arms.
In the least, we might finally start learning some better and more effective ways of deailng with them other than killing their children, which is what is recruiting a lot of new terrorists these days. The cycle must be stopped.
So whatever your religion or spiritual background - pray, send healing, think positive thoughts. Love your enemies. Be the better person. Take a stand for peace, even if it's just in your own heart.

Love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek.
The Taliban, the Muslim fanatics, and the evangelical Christians all share the same problem: Their view is the only right view and everyone else is going to hell.
I think the abortion doctors who were shot and killed by fundamentalist extremists here in America would disagree with you.
Ummmm...remember a little thing called THE CRUSADES??
But I don't believe in military action. Only hate comes out of the barrel of a gun. Instead, I believe in peace making and in the teachings: 'blessed are the peace makers, love one another and love thy enemy'. It's not really all that hard to do - but it has to start with each one of us doing her and his parts. So I believe.
Magi
I believe all the answers to this particular philosophy are expressed quite succinctly in the old television show "Kung Fu." Caine kicked ass, but only when necessary, and he loved everyone without judgment.
I'm telling you, all the answers to this lie in KUNG FU.
The best way to "attack" them is to send them love and peace...I know not everyone believes in this sort of thing, but I know that prayer and positive energy can totally work to transform a situation. If enough people started sending out more vibrations of love instead of hate, it could transform the planet.
The reason this works is that a person stuck in anger will often shift out of the anger to a higher vibrational level if they are sent healing energy and prayer. There's no scientific proof of this, but a lot of anecdotal evidence.
Kung Fu came out in 1973 and was on the air for three years. It is a huge cult classic. It is set in the Old West and follows the travels of a half-Chinese, half-Caucasian Shaolin Priest who is exiled from China for killing the emperor's nephew after the nephew attacked his master.
David Carradine plays the leading role as Kwai Chang Caine (which upset some Asian-Americans, since he's not Chinese, but I figure the role is a Eurasian and this was created in another era). He was nominated for an Emmy for the role.
Throughout the show, Caine visits new towns in the Old West, usually encounters some bad guys, finds some people torn apart by revenge and bitterness, and teaches a message of peace and forgiveness even as he kicks the bad guy's asses.
The show was avante garde at the time for its pioneering use of flashbacks, to show Caine growing up in the Shaolin Monastery in China.
It is a fantastic show...and available on DVD.
man believes he is king..........kings rule.....kings don`t like to be commen people.......so the kings and some elected rulers do what ever they can to stay a King.....
.. PEACE AND LOVE are not earthly goals....POWER and MONEY...are.................Stephanie , you and i and mostly everyone here knows that the everyday person around the globe would be very happy with food shelter and a cook out every now and then.....it`s the other 2%...and most of them leaders that hoard and insite and try to control...the masses...all for their own ego`s and selfishness.........i say ASSINATE them all.....put a few billion dollar bounty per asshole leader and see what happens.........no innocents would die...just the ones playing the death game.................P.S. this is the best thing you`ve written with a soulful feel thanks.......
Maybe that sounds dramatic. But it's not. The hate that you feel towards another group of human beings - even if they are being the biggest assholes in the world - only creates more hate and fear. It is a cancer, in your own heart, and a cancer and plague upon the world."
OH YA!!!
So true, and true that it creates such frightening blind actions that spawn new acts of hate. Right on target!
