Unofficial Gather Poll: Are You Liberal, Conservative, or Moderate?

Some conservatives on Gather are complaining that Gather has a liberal bias. I have to honestly say I don't see it. I see Gather as being very diverse politically.

No-one's done a poll, however, so I figured I'd start an informal one just to see what's really out there. Granted, this isn't scientific, since it won't reach everybody, and my personal network may lean towards the liberal side. But I'm curious anyway.

So do you consider yourself: liberal, conservative, or moderate?

God blessed me with a functioning, critically thinking, constantly probing and questioning brain, therefore I am a progressive liberal, and damn thankful for it. It feels good to have the same ideals as Jesus.

Registered Green Independent and I consider myself a centrist. I take it issue by issue and vote accordingly with ballot and wallet. It's just an amazing coinkydink that everything about every Republican in power makes me sick.

I am libertarian-conservative. I have traditionally voted Republican, but that is about to change. They are not really conservative any more. I am probably going to start voting Libertarian or Constituion Party. Our two party system had generated a lack of original ideas to the problems our country faces. In addition, both parties have over extended the government to do things that are not constitutionally mandated for the federal government to do.

According to a recent survey I took, I am a left leaning libertarian.

As far as liberal bias on gather, I do think it is liberal compared to other internet forums I've visited, but I'm not sure that makes gather liberal overall. I think the other sites I am familiar with overly represent conservative views and tend to respond to liberal points of view with a lot of name calling. I tend to be a lurker rather than a partcipator and suspect that I am not alone.

I am a conservative, but not anything like the Fascists that have taken over the Republican Party. I believe in live in let live, mind your own business, the government that governs least governs best, and that whatever two consenting adults do behind closed doors is OK as long as they don't scare the horses. I believe in truth, justice and the American Way.

Not really (liberal, conservative or moderate). I tend to be socially libertarian and fiscally green (notice "small-case"). I often vote third-party when available (usually Libertarian or Green, sometimes Independent). I like to look at issues from outside-the-box perspectives. I am strongly anti-death penalty, pro-free speech, pro-personal privacy, anti-"Nanny state" (pro-self-determination).

Yes, I certainly do consider myself conservative, Liberal, Moderate.

But then so!

As many don't understand those words I'll give a little definition.

Liberal - is a free man.

Conservative - in one that manages money well, believes in a traditional set of values until they are proven to not work or to be in error, then would be open minded enough ro find a reasonable solution to fix what is found to not work or correct the error.

Moderate - Being within reasonable limits; not excessive or extreme

I am registered Libertarian. Unlike some pansy ass quasi-libertarians that end up voting republican or democrat - I actually stick to my guns - and have since sophmore year of college. It enrages my liberal friends (who want my money to spend on bogus social programs), and it enrages my conservative friends (who want to take my money and give it to Halliburton).

I'm a moderate liberal with a progressive conservativism relative to economic issues. I am for peace, tolerance, universal health care, freedom, liberty, justice, religious freedom and separation, international law, privacy, civil and human rights and protection of the environment. I'm for doing no harm to others. I'm for accepting each person on his or her journey - where they are and as they are, appreciating that I don't know if they are ahead or behind where I am on my journey.

No secret on this. I'm a liberal who understands moderates and true conservatives but has no patience for the religious right. I understand libertarians but worry that thinking "just say no" to spending is oversimplifying the problem. Due to my understanding of conservative politics many people consider me a centrist. But I myself label myself liberal. My car has two bumper stickers left (I took off the most offensive ones): A leftover Kerry sticker and one that says "If you think education is expensive try ignorance."

I'm an USA American. I believe in politics issue by issue. I vote for the best person not the best of two evil politicians. I believe that a sane person can be conservative on one issue and liberal on the next.
Money controls our government because of the money needed to run for election. A Senator has to average 10,000 dollars a day in raising funds for their entire 6 year term to have enough funds to campaign. If you want your country back fight for fair campaign contribution reform. We the people have no voice in DC. So who out there wants it back?

There is not always a one-to-one relationship in economics. Just as a pulley increases leverage so to can correct spending priorities. Reality check: We all pay for universal health care one way or another. Informed opinion states: "It's a lot cheaper preventing a problem than fixing it." What are the facts supporting Conservative logic opposing universal health care. Here is a web site with additional facts: http://www.healthcareforall.org/facts.html. Where do empathy and compassion fit in the equation? The NASA flight crew spoke of earth as "the home of humanity". So do conservatives possess humanity? I think so.

I prefer to think of myself as an Independent Thinker. I make my political decisions based on the issue or candidate of the moment. But for clarity: I am mostly a Progressive Social Liberal, and a somewhat Fiscal Conservative.

OMG!!!!!??????? To imply some kind of 'authority' or 'supreme intelligence' by associating your liberal views and outright hatred of this Admin to the life of Christ is appalling to say the least.

What grounds can you possibly claim to the rightous indignation of Jesus to the corruption of the Jewish hierarchy on SPIRITUAL terms? A godless Liberal making such a claim is almost funny, in a very dark way.

From a born-again, bible-believing radical for Christ here. I pray constantly for the guidence to make sane, rational decisions. The hypocritical stance on wholesale abortion and the horror of partial birth abortion alone will probably keep me in the Republican camp.

I also gotta go with Crazy here. I wish the Republicans would leave my private life alone and wish the Democrats would leave my wallet alone. Usually I vote Republican because traditionally they haven't done too much to limit my private life and definitely helped my wallet. However, recent experience has not been such. With them spending like Democrats and becoming quite fascist in nature, I'm not sure who I'll vote for. Should I hold my nose and vote Democrat and pray to God they don't bleed my wallet dry for the next four years (not that the Republicans were much better this time around)? Or should I vote for a third party candidate that I know won't win, but hell, at least I stuck with my principles? What if no viable third party exists? I've even thought about not voting, but that would be a violation of my duty as a citizen.

Sooooo... I'm still debating, but I'm thinking I'm just going to vote for the challenger and kick out incumbents. My choices suck. Example: Governor for Illinois. Both are corrupt. Gee, what a choice. And yeah the third party candidate wants to go on a spending spree. Sheesh.

Conservative. My hypothesis is that liberalism is a mental disease that can be cured. The erratic behavior and illogical beliefs of liberalism has brought me to this conclusion. The only reason this country is still great is due to conservative values, beliefs and ideas. Take care all. Come to the light libs.
