2006 Nobel Prize for Literature goes to Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk

Turkey's best-known novelist Orhan Pamuk, who faced trial this year for insulting his country, won the 2006 Nobel prize for Literature on Thursday.

"In the quest for the melancholic soul of his native city, (Pamuk) has discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures," the Swedish Academy said in its citation for the 10 million Swedish crown ($1.36 million) prize."

Has anyone read Tess Gerritsen's books..Have read 5 of her books including her latest . fantastic reading.

I first heard about Orham Pamuk when he was brought to court for speaking openly about Turkish genocide in his writing. I hope his work has been translated into English. By the way, Stories from the Axis of Evil, sounds like another one we should read. I heard Azar Nafisi being interviewed about it and was intrigued at the stories that emerge from those nations. I love Iranian movies. If these stories have the same gentle beauty and human empathy as the movies they should make good reading.
